# DaVinci Resolve User Reviews

## Reviews summary

- Overall rating: 4.8/5
- Total reviews: 273

### Secondary ratings

- Ease of use: 4.0/5
- Customer support: 4.3/5
- Value for money: 4.8/5
- Functionality: 4.8/5

### Rating distribution

- 5 stars: 225 reviews (82%)
- 4 stars: 43 reviews (16%)
- 3 stars: 4 reviews (1%)
- 2 stars: 1 reviews (0%)
- 1 star: 0 reviews (0%)

### Most mentioned pros

- It integrates editing, effects (Fusion), and sound (Fairlight) into a single workspace, eliminating the need to switch between multiple programs and saving time.
- No other post-production suite comes close in terms of listening their customers and making features that are benefitting them the same way Blackmagic Design have done with Davinci Resolve.
- The most important thing is that the free version itself has great capabilities, so it is an excellent choice for anyone working alone or a small company that wants high quality without paying a lot of subscription money.

### Most mentioned cons

- It will take time to master Fusion's Nodes system or understand how Fairlight works, which can be frustrating at first.
- The Fusion tab is pretty intimidating coming from layer-based editing.
- Customizing the interface is, for me, not as intuitive (or, in some cases, possible) as I'd like.

Strong product with a lot of capabilities which everyone who creates/edits videos must use ! It's free

#### Ratings breakdown

- Ease of use: 4/5
- Value for money: 5/5
- Customer support: 5/5
- Functionality: 5/5

#### Pros

It's an amazing tool where you can edit videos from super simple style to production style in just one app. It has nice transitions and supports several media layers. it also supports green screen removal which is so cool.

#### Cons

Some minor features are not available in free version and you must buy the paid product. I would have prefered also to have more classic transitions

I have been a video maker for years. Among my professions I also teach subjects related to audiovisual. The possibility of easily editing and having an easy view of the work makes it flexible. Even beginners learn. Working hours on this system I have also developed an easy dialogue between editing and color

#### Ratings breakdown

- Ease of use: 5/5
- Value for money: 5/5
- Customer support: 2/5
- Functionality: 5/5

#### Pros

Finally color correction and editing in a single pro option. Unlike competitors, the package here is really complete and easy to manage.

#### Cons

I would like to have a better system for editing audio. The audio section could also be implemented with a dedicated sound archive

#### Reasons for switching to DaVinci Resolve

Free basic package, better color, better file and archive management, times and performances

### Davinci's a powerful program that can edit in 8k, but do you need all that?

It's a tough sell for me being a "weekend warrior" with a lot of other "non editing" stuff to do as it takes time to learn as well as the actual editing.

#### Ratings breakdown

- Ease of use: 2/5
- Value for money: 3/5
- Customer support: 2/5
- Functionality: 5/5

#### Pros

I like that even in the free version you can edit in a resolution that most people don't even have in their living room. The 30k or whatever the paid version has was overkill for me but the color correction alone practically pays for itself because it will fix any kind of lighting mistake and i mean any. Next best thing are the graphics and sound effects which are far superior to anything else on the market.

#### Cons

I found it has a steep learning curve if you haven't been around for the previous 16 to 17 versions. Even the tutorials need tutorials, its ridiculous!

#### Reasons for choosing DaVinci Resolve

I wanted the power of creating a flashy promo in high def.

#### Reasons for switching to DaVinci Resolve

I wanted more action in my promos, the graphics are what sold me and are also what frustrate me to know end when my computer bogs down.

DaVinci Resolve is a fantastic editing tool for anyone looking for a free solution. You won't have all of the features, but you'll have enough. The color correction tools are fantastic as well. However, it's a pretty complicated software and takes a while to get used to if you're used to Premiere.

#### Ratings breakdown

- Ease of use: 3/5
- Value for money: 5/5
- Customer support: 5/5
- Functionality: 5/5

#### Pros

It's free, has great editing capabilities, and the color correction is way better than Adobe's.

#### Cons

It's pretty complicated in some parts and requires a steep learning curve. I've also ran into glitches.

#### Reasons for choosing DaVinci Resolve

I still use Premiere, but DaVinci is way better at color correction, so I typically use it for that.

Davinci was my first ever video editing software in my laptop. In the beginning i struggled a bit to understand and learn the way editing worked in DaVinci but overall for a free software it provides features that no other video editing softwares give out. My most favorite part is where i can edit, enhance audio on the way I want which is a plus point since audio is a important part of my work

#### Ratings breakdown

- Ease of use: 2/5
- Value for money: 4/5
- Customer support: 5/5
- Functionality: 5/5

#### Pros

It provides all the necessary options to help a user make their video look as professional as possible and DaVinci is a free video editing software that not only allows professional video editing features , you can also enhance or play around with audio editing.

#### Cons

Some of the transitions and effects that are basic are in the paid section .

#### Reasons for switching to DaVinci Resolve

Clipchamp was a really narrow ranged video editor , i couldn't add transition, effects nor edit my videos professionally. Clipchamp has watermark and other restrictions that just is unacceptable. My projects need intense audio editing with few VFX included and Clipchamp had no options for any of this

I was an Avid media composer user for long time then convinced by a friend I switched to DaVinci Resolve in 2017. The learning curve it's very steep and after these years I still need to go back to the user manual for finding functions not so easy to discover. It's a great gear for colorists but not so easy for making simple editing. It can be improved under many points for instance is not backward compatible so must keep a backup of your project in case of. Difficult to use in a laptop and I use it in a 17" FHD laptop. Anyhow as any software cannot satisfy everyone. I go on use it because at least the updates price (zero) is still fitting my pocket.

#### Ratings breakdown

- Ease of use: 3/5
- Value for money: 5/5
- Customer support: 3/5
- Functionality: 4/5

#### Pros

The price was why I choose it at first, then after using it for a while I found it having a plenty of tools in the same box. I still use it since 2017. I Use the studio version which has good tools and permit me to complete a work even I'm alone.

#### Cons

It's not very user friendly. The UI is not very easy to understand and to much tools are fit in a single screen. Unless I'm not able to discover it the different UI sections are not detachable so Timeline area results sacrificed unless do you have two monitor and move timeline to one of them.

#### Reasons for switching to DaVinci Resolve

Because of cheap cost and some friends recommendations

Its one of the leaders in video creations and the results speak for themselves. This is why the experienced video creators use this tool. The free version can give you the experience to learn through the many tutorials available before purchasing the paid version. There is a excellent training video on utube that is a must see for anyone interested in starting out.

#### Ratings breakdown

- Ease of use: 3/5
- Value for money: 5/5
- Customer support: 5/5
- Functionality: 4/5

#### Pros

DaVinci Resolve is one of the best video creation tools around, however you need to have previous experience in video creation to use it. This is a advance video creation system, from colour grading, project creation, and a wide selection of features that gives Hollywood style results. The customer support gives a large tutorial library that does require a lengthy learning period, while the value for money is also excellent, there is a free version that is easily uploaded, or the Davinci Studio which gives you more fancy features at a one time payment of around $500 all upgrades after are free. Like a lot of systems you can add a security password to protect all your work.

#### Cons

Has a lengthy learning curve, but the results are Hollywood style quality. The advance version being Davinci Studio with a much large selection of features available is a reasonably cost but at a one time payment with a life time upgrades for free the initial cost out weights the amount you are receiving.

#### Ratings breakdown

- Ease of use: 4/5
- Functionality: 5/5

#### Pros

DaVinci Resolve is where I gain professional-level control over color correction, which is critical for the kind of documentary and storytelling work we create. I appreciate that it’s a single platform, combining editing, color, audio and effects.

#### Cons

There was a steep learning curve at first, particularly with color grading tools, so it took some time to unleash its power.

#### Cons

Some basic things are harder to find or are more time consuming to do, compared to Vegas Pro. Some videos and audio will fail to import without explanation.

#### Reasons for switching to DaVinci Resolve

#### Pros

The fact that it is free but functions like most professional software is great. Lots of Youtube videos out there to allow for easy learning.

#### Cons

Not too much. On the odd occasion you may encounter certain bugs that come up, but nothing that a good reset of the software would fix. Plus software updates usually fix it.

#### Reasons for switching to DaVinci Resolve

Resolve is free, with very few limitations. Sink that in: you can get a very-modern, timely-updated, fully featured video workstation for free. Pros don't often use free software, mostly because it lacks support: BMD is definitely the counter to these with Resolve. The paid-version allows for greater resolutions and more customization.

#### Ratings breakdown

- Ease of use: 3/5
- Value for money: 5/5
- Customer support: 4/5
- Functionality: 5/5

#### Pros

We've come a long way since the early Resolve versions. So many tools added release after release (and they also come often), it is now a full fledged one-stop video solution. Node canvas is very easy to work with. Clip management is intuitive and fast. BMD's vision is clear: they create the best editor they can to work with their own hardware, but unlike others they make it as easy to work with BMD-camera captured footage than it is with other formats. All this for a very, very cheap price and the option to actually own the software rather than renting (wink wink Adobe?)

#### Cons

Resolve is a professional video workstation, and like every software of this caliber the learning curve can be a bit steep for newcomers; it takes time and practice to really master it. You want pro results? You better get studying!

#### Reasons for choosing DaVinci Resolve

First and foremost we chose Resolve for its incredibly powerful color grading features. But since it became a very good editor too, we're slowly moving away from other solutions. There are very few things you can fault Resolve at, but even then what can we complain about?

We have been using Resolve since past 2 years and we find this is the ultimate software for video editing and post processing. Motion tracking is one of the key features that we like in this software.

#### Ratings breakdown

#### Ratings breakdown

- Ease of use: 4/5
- Value for money: 5/5
- Customer support: 5/5

#### Pros

The free version of this software is almost 100% of the what the paid version offers. No watermarks or sly ways of getting you to pay. Simply great.

#### Cons

It has a learning curve, but nothing that is greater than any other software of this caliber.

#### Reasons for choosing DaVinci Resolve

Price and the ability to use varying OS platforms.

#### Reasons for switching to DaVinci Resolve

I switched to have a device "agnostic" video editor that doesn't require specialized knowledge for each OS platform.

### The BEST VIDEO EDITING SOFTWARE Money Can't Buy- IT'S FREE

Overall, I love it! It has everything a $0 film maker needs to put their creativity into fruition. It gives small filmmakers like us a tool that professionals still use and that has never happened before. Minus the major movie stars, we're almost on the same playing field now. I've edited videos on it for 3 years and I don't think I'll be switching anytime soon- if I do it will probably be to the full paid version Davinci Resolve Studio.

#### Ratings breakdown

- Ease of use: 4/5
- Functionality: 4/5

#### Pros

Firstly, it's free. It has everything anyone would ever need to make a film. From sound editing to colour correcting, all the tools it provides are professional and easy to use. Did I mention that it's free? Another great thing about the software is that it actually uses your GPU. I also particularly like its trimming tools as I find that there aren't many free video editing softwares that give you the ability to make such precise cuts on a video. This is especially useful if you're a video creator who HAS TO cut 'that scene' at just the right moment else the whole film is terrible. Yes, I'm that video creator. Visual playback isn't too shabby either- it does lag sometimes but a feature called optimized media reduces that. Lastly, the thing I probably like the most is the endless options for editing the actual video appearance. You can zoom in on it, crop it, stretch it and keyframe each change to create an animated effect.

#### Cons

It's system requirements. The software needs AT LEAST 16GB of DDR4 RAM to run smoothly. I currently run it on just 8GB which is fine if you don't mind lag and random software crashes. Davinci Resolve also comes with the default settings for Autosave being off. I learnt that one the hard way. It also sometimes has problems with audio output, particularly when you use more than one output device (like headphones and external speakers). Sometimes it doesn't automatically change to the system device. Another thing I noticed is that, for some odd reason, it randomly outputs mono audio from a stereo audio file but this does eventually fix itself.

#### Reasons for switching to DaVinci Resolve

Editing functionality and overall U.I is much more professional and user-friendly.

I'm really fond of Davinci Resolve, it contains everything I need and I love the workflow of the program.

#### Ratings breakdown

- Ease of use: 4/5
- Value for money: 5/5
- Customer support: 3/5
- Functionality: 5/5

#### Pros

The fact that it's free to use and you get a free studio license if you buy a camera, is just amazing. But the main reason for using this product is that they update it quite often and I my system doesn't get breakdowns.

#### Cons

The audio editing in Resolve is not as great as it could be. BUT for me the video editing is the most important. Non-movable windows within the program.

#### Reasons for choosing DaVinci Resolve

It's generally easier to work in Resolve with the Blackmagic ATEM recordings.

#### Reasons for switching to DaVinci Resolve

cheaper, easier workflow, ATEM switcher project workflow (makes my day)

I find Davinci Resolve to be a very comprehensive and free software for video post-production. It offers an intuitive user interface and ease of use that allows for editing, color grading, special effects and audio post-production tasks. The color grading tools are particularly advanced and accurate, allowing for fine-tuning of colors. In addition, the software can process videos in 4K resolution and higher, with fast performance thanks to the use of the GPU for effects processing. Finally, it is available for Windows, Mac and Linux, making it accessible to a wide audience.

#### Cons

I found that Davinci Resolve has some drawbacks. For example, the learning curve is quite steep for beginners due to the complexity of its features. Also, it may require powerful computer hardware to work effectively, especially when handling large files or very high resolutions. Finally, some advanced features are only available in the paid version of the software, which can be expensive for some users.
