## Reviews summary

- Overall rating: 4.6/5
- Total reviews: 156

### Secondary ratings

- Ease of use: 4.3/5
- Customer support: 4.1/5
- Value for money: 4.2/5
- Functionality: 4.5/5

### Rating distribution

- 5 stars: 109 reviews (70%)
- 4 stars: 34 reviews (22%)
- 3 stars: 8 reviews (5%)
- 2 stars: 4 reviews (3%)
- 1 star: 1 reviews (1%)

### Most mentioned pros

- My most favorite features are ease of importing media files, cutting and joining video clips which is a straight forward process and the many short-cuts which made everything simpler once I mastered them.
- Today you can edit a flashy video with an app with a few templates of effects and you can do it in 10 minutes and it would take you a few hours with Vegas to get a similar result.
- I’ve used VEGAS Pro for well over a decade and have always appreciated its intuitive timeline workflow, strong audio tools, and overall editing flexibility.

### Most mentioned cons

- What I dislike most about Vegas pro is the complexity of key framing whereby animating x,y and rotations motions simultaneously will took time grasping.
- On the other hand, you would actually numb your fingers trying to edit a longer video on your cellphone, at the level you can do it in Vegas.
- However, Version 23 has shaken my confidence due to reliability concerns.

What more impacts me, is the way they design the software, and made it so easy to understand it's interface, and so powerful do edit. My experience using this software daily, makes me more inspired to do what many producers seek in other editing softwares. With knowledge and creativity, I have a powerful tool. Vegas Pro can do uncountable things. It's native, and it's still one of the best. I just love it!!!

#### Cons

Some versions have some kind of Bugs. Maybe it's a question of my graphic plates, but sometimes it just crashes. Beside this, I think it's all TOP.

So far this is the best video editing software in my opinion. This is not too simple of which there is a very limited feature available, but not too complex either, so it is a sweet spot also for first-time user.

#### Ratings breakdown

- Ease of use: 4/5
- Value for money: 4/5
- Customer support: 4/5
- Functionality: 5/5

#### Pros

Flexible use, user-friendly interface, great community, huge library and features to choose from.

#### Cons

Some features use really technical terms, which are a bit hard to understand for common people at first.

#### Reasons for switching to VEGAS Pro

This software is much more easier to much, but also includes more features.

#### Pros

The multicamera mode is really great! If you have a video taken from many point of view, you can synch them easly and then you can move from a camera to another really easly as Vegas can merge them into a unique timeline and you can switch from a view to another with just one click.

#### Cons

This software is really stunning, but if I have to talk about a least then it could be that there are not so many rendering filters and maybe the text effects could be uograded to a more easy way to use them. Also it could be useful a inline help that suggests and remember you which are the shortcuts to use the variuos features.

#### Reasons for switching to VEGAS Pro

I was seraching for a more professional software.

### Vegas Pro Is The Underrated NLE King

I've been using Vegas Pro for about 10 years. I've been tempted by the competition, and indeed have incorporated things like Filmora for more casual edits and easier titling. But if I need to do a complex edit, like the one I did for my award-winning short film, I go to Vegas Pro. It's reliable, stable, feature-rich and affordable.

#### Ratings breakdown

- Ease of use: 3/5
- Value for money: 5/5
- Customer support: 5/5
- Functionality: 5/5

#### Pros

Vegas sits on a very sweet spot: it's a single-purchase license (versus things like Premiere which are only available through subscriptions), but it's not too much more expensive than more enthusiast offerings such as Filmora. For that one-time payment, you get a lifetime license to one of the most established non-linear editors in the business. There's a wealth of support and information online (which sets it apart from newcomers) and the business model is much more small-business-friendly than the Adobe subscription model.

#### Cons

Magix acquired Vegas from Sony a few years back but not much has changed. I really wish there were better built-in titles, for example. Better support for hardware acceleration of the timeline and edit process. The titling issue in particular usually means I have to edit my footage further somewhere else. But to be honest, the NLE workflow is good enough that I don't mind the extra steps for titling.

#### Reasons for choosing VEGAS Pro

The single-license purchase model made VEGAS Pro a no-brainer when choosing it over Premiere.

### Vegas pro is good for the most part

Overall it is a good program. I continue to use it with caution to save after each section is edited.

#### Ratings breakdown

- Ease of use: 5/5
- Value for money: 3/5
- Functionality: 4/5

#### Pros

It is an easy platform to use. It does not take long to learn and has several easy tricks and functions. Clipping and splicing are super easy and natural. You can always find how to learn new functions on YouTube.

#### Cons

Vegas does have an issue with rendering. Rendering takes a while on a standard computer and with over 15 minutes per video, it will crash quite often. 99% of the time for me it will always crash right as I select Render. You have to save often to avoid loss, and always save just prior to rendering.

#### Reasons for choosing VEGAS Pro

I had experience with Vegas 13 and wouldn't have to learn a new program, time is of the essence.

#### Reasons for switching to VEGAS Pro

To get a more user friendly interface.

### Still one of the best video editing tool for single camera projects

I'm very happy with the software. Sure, there is a bit of a learning curve but once you master the shortcuts and the logic... Editing becomes super fast, and you can automate most actions through scripts or plugins.

#### Ratings breakdown

- Ease of use: 3/5
- Value for money: 5/5
- Functionality: 4/5

#### Pros

First : It's a highly flexible tool for whom you can code your own scripts to automate actions. Second : The real time preview is a real time saver. Third : It's affordable, and upgrades to get the lastest version are cheap. And most importantly : It doesn't slow down your computer or crashes as much as it's direct competitor. So that you can render your project while still working (in your browser for instance) on something else less computer intensive.

#### Cons

The out of the box "picture in picture" feature was overly complicated without a plugin. The multicam was cumbersome. Not sure if they improved it in their latest upgrade to something faster to produce and easier to edit like in Final Cut Pro X.

#### Reasons for choosing VEGAS Pro

Computer requirements were too demanding. Everything seemed very slow and eventually crashed the app (or the computer). The opposite of what I was trying to achieve.

#### Reasons for switching to VEGAS Pro

Workflow was too time consuming. Access to a limited feature set was limiting our creativity as well.

I like this software and I can see the effort they put into this video editor.

#### Ratings breakdown

- Ease of use: 5/5
- Value for money: 5/5
- Customer support: 5/5
- Functionality: 5/5

#### Pros

The text-to-speech (t2s) function...!! In the past, I need to record my own voice for the video. But with Vegas Pro t2s function, it is much quicker and faster for me to complete my tasks. Also, it can now connect to those libraries that VEGAS Pro provides. This save me much time from going to the web and grab those royalty-free images or clips.

#### Cons

Well, the library from VEGAS Pro is good enough for general use. However, when it compares to other free library (such as PEXELS or Pixarbay), you will notice there is a gap between them.

#### Reasons for choosing VEGAS Pro

I think VEGAS Pro's UI is generall better. And I also find the rendering speed is quite fast.

#### Reasons for switching to VEGAS Pro

I use VEGAS Pro for the Text-to-Speech function. But I do use Filmora from time to time, too.

In our work in marketing, we produce a large number of video materials. Thanks to Vegas Pro, work is easier and faster, and therefore videos are cheaper.

#### Ratings breakdown

- Ease of use: 4/5
- Value for money: 5/5
- Functionality: 5/5

#### Pros

A very extensive and at the same time intuitive program, the great advantages of which are: 360 video support, automatically adjusting subtitles, a large number of various types of transitions and effects. Works with video materials in all basic formats (DV, AVCHD, HDV, SD / HD-SDI, HEVC, ProRes).

#### Cons

The biggest disadvantage of Vegas Pro is the high price and the need to spend time learning the program.

#### Reasons for switching to VEGAS Pro

Vegas Pro is a little easier for me to use than DaVinci Resolve.

I have been using Vegas Pro in an official capacity since 2011, with history using it as early as 2008, currently on Version 016 (Build 0352) as of typing: This software has served as the only resource that I and many of those who make up my production team use to produce our local programming, due to its noticeably easy User Interface and extreme ability to be enhanced through Third Party extensions to help keep a user on the same build for many years before having to do a major upgrade; its constant performance and stability improvements with each version and future generations of CPUs, GPUs, and RAM assures that it will continue to see ever more use as it becomes easier and faster to produce even the heaviest of workloads. Although it is plagued with a plethora of Glitches and Crashes that get fixed as the software matures and CPU/GPU Driver updates arrive, Vegas Pro is significantly more affordable and accessible than Adobe's suite of software and other relevant competition, having far more community support than most other platforms; optimized for Intel and AMD's modern era Sixteen+ Core CPUs and AMD's Vega II GPUs, anybody can build a High End Desktop for less than 2000$ USD and see effective results with Vegas Pro for many years to come, media producers such as myself can develop local programming without having to upgrade an HEDT system for a good while and we'll still get the most out of the software, it is ageless and will continue to deliver a powerful impact.

#### Ratings breakdown

- Ease of use: 5/5
- Value for money: 5/5
- Customer support: 4/5
- Functionality: 4/5

#### Pros

~ Significant levels of Ease of Access for multiple media file types of many ages and forms. ~ Expansive resource set to allow for more Extensions, Special Effects, and Scene Transitions to help mature and evolve the software's capabilities. ~ Support for High Framerate footage and countless forms of Colour Profiles. ~ Usable on virtually every possible Desktop or Laptop hardware combination over the past matter of decades.

#### Cons

~ The Digital Version does not come with an expansive Instruction Manual to understand how to use every effect, specifically in regards to Third Party resources that can be added during the life of the application's run. ~ Massive amounts of inexplicable Glitches and Crashes (though many can be fixed through manual tweaking and official Bugfix builds). ~ Occasional Requirement to reinstall QuickTime after select major firmware updates of Windows. ~ Critical issues with RAM consumption (specifically Committed Memory) when using media assets of a certain codec or a resolution that is significantly higher than the Project Size. ~ Heavy dependency on OpenCL favours AMD's Compute~based Graphics Cards over Nvidia's Graphics~based cards (though this may be beneficial for PC builders on a tighter budget).

#### Reasons for switching to VEGAS Pro

I upgraded to Vegas Pro (Version 011) from Microsoft's Windows Live Movie Maker that initially came with Windows 07, which was significantly important in assuring the improvement of production quality and file size of our works in Late 2011 and onward, with us moving away from WLMM completely in Late 2014. Vegas helped deliver a better insight into how media production is truly meant to be done, delivering a real Professional Grade feel that dominates anything that WLMM could've delivered to us in years prior; had this switch not ever been done, my group's works would've suffered significantly and remained stuck in an era of static impact going forward, thus I wholeheartedly applaud what Sony and MAGIX have done with the software in my time of using it, Vegas Pro may not be perfect but it still gets the job done for me and my workforce far more than virtually any other software could at the speed and effectiveness that it has managed to do for north of ten years.

Incredible. I am a musician/composer and sound effects designer, and I work with video and music a lot. So it's nice to have all my niches use ONE editor/brand. Whether I'm working on audio, or audio and video, Vegas Pro is invaluable as a powerful tool to get through any type project that comes up. I honestly believe that of all the editors, Vegas has to be the best choice for intuitive design. The interface for Vegas is very logical and intuitive. Perfect for those of us who are artists.

#### Ratings breakdown

- Ease of use: 5/5
- Value for money: 5/5
- Customer support: 5/5
- Functionality: 4/5

#### Pros

Overall ease of use. All the important features are easy to find and use, and there's plenty of features that go levels deeper when you need them.

#### Cons

This might be an issue I would suggest gets resolved. And that is the compatibility between past projects from former versions of Vegas... for example, Vegas 11 to Vegas 20. I wish they had a way to open older versions of Vegas without major snags. Some kine of an interface that converted say... a project from Vegas 11 (or other) to the current version 20. I say this because I have project that are on going... and sometimes it would be nice to just import older edits to current projects.

#### Reasons for choosing VEGAS Pro

I had tried Vegas when it was just an audio editor... and it was so intelligently designed and capable of major editing projects. So accepting Vegas as audio and video was easy for me... and I never regretted it.

I don’t think I would’ve used Vegas for as long as I have if it wasn’t an amazing piece of software. I highly recommend it to everyone.

#### Ratings breakdown

- Ease of use: 5/5
- Functionality: 5/5

#### Pros

Vegas has been reliable for most of the time I’ve used it, it does have a tendency to crash, but only when I’m doing too much with my computer. It’s edit videos very well and can be used by professionals and amateurs alike.

#### Cons

I do hate the fact that it does occasionally crash, this means I need to save the project regularly. But it doesn’t mean it crashes that much that it’s an actual issue.

For my usage, which was pretty simple editing of video and audio, with some effects on top, it did the job just like I wanted it, but I was well aware of its limitations.

#### Ratings breakdown

- Ease of use: 4/5

#### Pros

Vegas Pro is easy to pick up and use, and it is fairly intuitive for its most basic features, and learning to use the more advanced suite of tools is not very hard, which makes this a great tool for beginners.

#### Cons

Other programs do a much better job at the most complicated tasks of video editing and effects. This is the place where Vegas Pro lags behind other more established alternatives.

Simplicity when editing, however, we have to be very careful: after executing each command, remember to press control + S so as not to lose work in case of a bug, which is common in vegas.

#### Ratings breakdown

Not great, and it does not work on my newer devices which all use .mov containers. DaVinci Resolve free version works much better which is a big surprise.

#### Ratings breakdown

- Ease of use: 4/5
- Value for money: 1/5
- Customer support: 1/5
- Functionality: 3/5

#### Pros

I do like fx features and the workflow, but none of my new camera gear will work in it anymore.

#### Cons

Why does Magix think .mov files are obsolete and always related to Quicktime which they are doing away with? It is my understanding that .mov is just a container, and codec can vary in containers. For instance, my new Atomos Ninja V recorder uses .mov containers with DNxHR codex. Does not work in Vegas but it works without any problems in the free version of DaVinci Resolve. Same thing with 2 of my new action action cameras that also use the .mov container, but it works great in DaVinci Resolve. Vegas Pro also does not have Prores support. What can I actually use Vegas Pro 17 for? Does not work at all for my Atomos Recorder or action cams. I can do a couple tweaks for my Atomos with the DNxHR codex installed separately, but I can't get video on action cameras. I regret spending the money on Vegas Pro 17 now.

#### Reasons for choosing VEGAS Pro

Gave it a try because I liked the workflow

VEGAS PRO is a great video editor, it offers many very useful tools for audio and video editing, there is a lot of freedom when creating audiovisual content, you can do what you want because the tools allow it. In general, the rendering process is very good, it works fast and you have many options in choosing the rendering settings. The interface is quite friendly and attractive. In conclusion, VEGAS PRO is a great program, highly recommended.

#### Cons

The learning curve when starting to use the editor can be very slow, and on top of that, update support is currently lousy. Also, many processes such as rendering can slow down excessively.

Vegas almost never crashes on me, which was an a occasional issue with Final Cut. It's just solid software that does what you need it to, with all the professional features and effects.

#### Ratings breakdown

- Ease of use: 5/5
- Value for money: 5/5
- Functionality: 5/5

#### Pros

I have used Vegas and Final Cut, and I have found Vegas to be faster, more reliable, easier to use, and have at least as many features...if not more.

#### Cons

There is nothing I dislike about Sony Vegas. If you're familiar with video editing software you'll get the hang of the layout and quick keys very fast.
