Select to learn more

Intuitive For All Users

Getting started with Cisco AnyConnect is straightforward, even for those without technical backgrounds. The interface is clean and simple, making it easy to connect and navigate. Minimal training is needed, and users appreciate how quickly they can sign in and get to work, whether on Windows, Mac, or mobile devices.

Robust Protection And Controls

With Cisco AnyConnect, your data and connections are protected by strong encryption, multi-factor authentication, and proactive threat defense. The platform helps ensure secure remote access, guards against malware and unauthorized access, and supports compliance needs. Security features like two-factor authentication and endpoint protection provide peace of mind for both users and organizations.

Remote Access And Flexibility

Cisco AnyConnect makes it easy to securely connect to your company’s network from anywhere. You can access files, applications, and resources as if you were in the office, with support for multiple devices and operating systems. The VPN connection is quick to establish, reliable, and offers options like split tunneling and multi-factor authentication for added convenience and security.

Frequent Disconnects And Interruptions

Maintaining a stable connection with Cisco AnyConnect can be challenging, especially when devices sleep or internet fluctuates. Users report unexpected disconnections, difficulty reconnecting, and the need to restart the client or device. Automatic reconnection doesn’t always work, leading to interruptions and extra steps to resume work.

Connectivity And Compatibility Issues

Users often face slow connections, trouble with captive portals, and challenges when switching networks or connecting to multiple sites. Weak or unstable internet can cause frequent disconnects, and troubleshooting errors is difficult due to vague error messages. Compatibility with certain networks and devices can also be problematic, sometimes requiring administrative intervention.

Complex And Time-Consuming Setup

Setting up Cisco AnyConnect is often described as difficult and labor-intensive, especially for first-time users or those without technical expertise. Configuration can be confusing, with unintuitive settings and a need for IT support. Importing profiles, handling certificates, and initial deployment may require advanced knowledge and extra time.

Pros:

The proactive threat defense feature stands out as a significant advantage, providing IT departments with a comprehensive overview of user activities and endpoint interactions. This extensive insight is instrumental in formulating stronger and more efficient network security strategies.

Cons:

While Cisco AnyConnect generally provides a reliable and secure VPN connection, I have reported occasional connectivity issues. These can manifest as unexpected disconnections or trouble establishing a connection.

Pros:

It is the simplest tool for the end user. And for administrators, it is the one that gives us the most confidence for a secure connection to the organization. Additional soon it will also be able to be used with Meraki, we liked this news a lot.

Cons:

In the new versions it is no longer compatible with the ISR4000 and is only supported on ASA and Firepower. I think this is a disadvantage, since it forces you to purchase a separate device for remote connection.

Reasons for choosing Cisco AnyConnect

It has been the most reliable and easy-to-use option for our users. The cost is not much and for the home office it has turned out to be an indispensable and reliable tool.

Pros:

Cisco AnyConnect enabled me to route only needed traffic via the VPN but keep access to everything local. It’s quite handy when I am multi-network hopping at the same time while working remotely.

Cons:

It fails since it doesn't recognize captive portals on public Wi-Fi. It doesn't redirect, it just fails until I disconnect then I disconnect and manually authenticate through a browser.

Cons:

Sometimes, it just refuses to connect to the VPN. This happens once or twice a month, but it is usually fixed automatically in 30 minutes to 1 hour, so it's not a big deal.

Cisco AnyConnect: A Great OVerall VPN Solution

5

Overall Anyconnect is great and easy to set up! It worked well for our use case and we hardly ever had any issues. The reason we moved away from it was to move towards a ZTNA product that offered more robust security measures and gave our organization many more features compared to AnyConnect. However, as a VPN product, you can't get much better than AnyConnect. Being able to store multiple connections and swap between them seamlessly was a great advantage for us.

Pros:

If you're looking for an easy to set up VPN with MFA capabilities, it is perfect. Deploying the client to users is also very easy to do and we were connected in minutes. It also just worked, it auto updated if necessary and most users never had any issue with it randomly stopping working.

Cons:

There really isn't anything terrible about AnyConnect if you need just a VPN. However MFA is essentially your only security with this product, so make sure that is implemented as well in your organization.
