I have considered alternatives, like Ghost and Substack, but for now, I am sticking with Wordpress. When I enabled comments on my site, I had to experiment with Akismet, settings, and snippets for a week in order to get the spam submissions under control. Fairly easy to get started. I use it with ACF to make it easy to use custom post types, taxonomies, and fields. #### Cons The plugin experience, for one. So many simple things that seem like they should be built into the platform instead require a separate plugin (or snippet). With plugins, you're at the mercy of the creators and must rely on them to update their code, keep it secure, etc. I've had to swap out abandoned plugins, pay for others, and I'm always concerned about security vulnerabilities. This makes me a lot less confident about using the platform as a whole. Another thing I don't like is the API exposure. It is very hidden to the beginner, who may not realize that they are exposing their personal information, for example. I started with free templates and upgraded to better paid version. Wordpress can accommodate everything for your blog, literally everything.
