About AWS Step Functions

AWS Step Functions is a visual workflow designing service that allows businesses to build, execute and monitor event-driven workflows across the organizations. Administrators can utilize real-time diagnostics dashboards to track execution logs for failed steps, inputs and outputs using integration with AWS CloudTrail and Amazon CloudWatch.

Businesses can use AWS Step Functions’ built-in service primitives to handle data migration between microservices and other states, exceptions and timeouts. Other features include workflow abstraction, error handling, visual monitoring and more.

A Recommended Tool For Flow Management

I am really satisfied with the AWS Step Functions. It really helps us a lot to automate our processes which helped us a lot of time.

Pros:

It has a very easy-to-use drag-and-drop functionality which saves a lot of time and energy. One thing I really like is that with step functions AWS services are already integrated, which is really a great thing for me. Even It was not very hard to configure AWS Step Functions.

Cons:

In my experience, there is not much negative about the AWS Step Functions but one area where they can improve is their UI, if they make their process a little easier, it will be really good.

Pros:

For complex flows, step functions help me a lot to understand the cascade of events in its diagrams. For example on onboarding new customers, there's a few third parties integration during the onboarding process and Step Functions helps me to track any failure during the onboarding journey. Integration with AWS Lambda and Cloudwatch happens seamless, so it's easy to identify bugs and track deffect root causes.

Cons:

No major issue to report using Step Functions. On large pipelines sometimes execution duration can be a bit challenging as workflows have limits on state transitions per second.

Pros:

Majorly the software maintains the state of the application and hence tracking exactly in workflow becomes easy. It also has build in error handling which handles exception and errors.

Cons:

We want support of python scripts in Step functions as currently it only support JSON.

There are plenty of functions to manage operational flows. They really helped me automating the work which is really time-saving.

It was really easy to configure Step Functions. It has made workflow trackable. I really like their JSON/YAML automatic generation.

Cons:

One area where I am not much satisfied is their cost. If they manage to decrease the price a little bit, it will be really helpful.

Interactive visual workflow

My overall experience working with AWS Step Function has been awesome.I began using this just on a trial basis but have grown to like it.I also like the fact that this software is really userfriendly and the lay out is so pleasant to use.

Useful automation tool

It seems to be a tool that allows a scalable solution for managing microservices and processes. It has space to improve but is a good tool to design your workflow on, automate processes and save precious time managing all of it.

AWS Step Functions is a good tool for microservice automation, it allows arranging simple an complex application components in a logical, step-by-step order, simplifying most management and maintenance tasks. The drag and drop interface makes it easier and sort of intuitive for the less technical developer to use.

Cons:

Even if the drag and drop interface makes it easier to deploy, the documentation could be more detailed with more pratical examples. The pricing model could also be improved.
