Accubid Electrical Estimating Software

Accubid offers an estimating program for electrical contractors. The solution offers both cost estimating and digital plan takeoff capabilities in its electrical estimating system. The estimating application can be sold on a best-of-breed or stand-alone basis, but the takeoff application must be purchased together with cost estimating. The software is suitable for small and medium businesses.

Key features include digitizer integration, automatic scaling, 2D takeoff and CAD file integration. The system comes with labor and cost codes for over 22,000 items and 14,000 different assemblies. The solution provides flexible tools to drive data from purchasing and change order management, to project management, billing, and accounting without additional data entry.

Accubid provides lightweight project management capabilities such as document control and contract management. The solution is designed for electrical and teledata contractors performing construction and industrial work. The software provides integration with several other construction systems including Sage Timberline Office, ComputerEase, Maxwell Systems American Contractor, and Dexter + Chaney Spectrum. It also integrates with Excel and Quickbooks.

Great tool for full time or "most of the time" estimators.

Pros

Lots of options for change order tracking, contract management and Livecount. Cost is per user license so it can be affordable for medium sized companies.

Cons

Database can take a lot of time and effort to set up. Lots of upkeep and maintenance on the database. It takes a lot of training and practice as a user, not as intuitive as I would expect for the price.

This program works well enough out of the box. If you are looking for a solid estimating system this is a good one.

Pros

Trimble Accubid Pro Classic is easy to learn, easy to understand, and very easy to use. The program is good for breaking out your estimate, escalating labor, factoring labor, repricing material and sorting data. The program has a logical step-by-step feel.

Cons

Trimble Accubid Pro Classic is an old estimating system and lacks features. The assemblies are not very dynamic and can't be easily modified. Trimble Accubid has another estimating system called Enterprise that has much more power, but the learning curve on that is steep!

Pros

This is a powerful tool with a range of functions. It has a proven track record within the electrical industry.

Cons

The program can be difficult to manage for your company. There is very little material to help guide you through the background functions. Very expensive and getting even more expensive every year.

They need to add a calendar on the job info tab that relates to the dates and duration

Pros

I like a couple of things about this estimating software. The top pro is the ease of operation while using this software. I feel it is built more for the industrial contractor that enters items one item at a time. Also, I have always had a very fast response time with customer support. I normally send them an email with my issue and they either respond within an hour or so with what I can try or give me a call and take over my computer to fix the issue.

Cons

I do not like the speed of the program when trying to enter a plans and spec commercial project. I find it to be cumbersome and they do not have the capability to multi screen takeoffs at the same time as their competitor. The breakout screen assignments for the various tabs is somewhat cumbersome as well and needs an easier way to assign those amounts in the breakout screen instead of the tabs for individual items

bad on updates and very high cost!

Pros

I really like the way is set up, with an exception of the database, I will consider that the database is not good enough, also is difficult to link pricing from vendors

Cons

Very difficult to get reports and adequate BOM, I have to transcribe my BOM’s for proper pricing to the vendors

Pros

Almost anything is possible to set up in your accubid database and assemblies. It is really a great package for accurate commercial electrical takeoff.

Cons

Database setup can be tedious. You will need to crank out a lot of estimates to justify the cost and setup time.

I do not like Accubid. Training should be readily available for all people using this product for free.

Pros

Lots of information, navigation through the estimating system is fairly simple. Lots of assemblies

Cons

I don't like how all the assemblies have too much material. It needs to be simple and you add hardware and misc things in yourself. Difficult to make new assemblies. Difficult to find the job you were working on when you open it back up. Job does not save automatically. Updating pricing should be easier. Labor Hours for electrical material installs are not accurate. Jobs keep getting corrupted, some material suppliers have part numbers they don't match up and material runs high in price.

Tech support has been great. Watching the instructional videos helps but taking a class would be great. Small businesses are on a shoe string budget and difficult to come up with money for the software.

Pros

It gives me the ability to have all the composites in one area to view as I continue with an estimate. It saves times from building an excel sheet working from previous projects. The data is at your finger tips.

Cons

Im a first time user plus average computer skills and its difficult to keep all the moves together as you progress. The cost of the in class education should be part of the price instead of a extra cost.

Pros

Ease of use, most commonly used Estimating software for electrical contractors in the Chicago area. I have used Accubid for more than 12 years now - so familiarity is a huge plus.

Cons

Issues with updates to material data bases. The price is expensive for both Accubid and Change Order Pro. Needs to include on screen takeoff software with all future licenses.

I have worked in all areas of the electrical industry, less residential, and have used Timberline, ConEst, Estimation and several Excel spreadsheet products to do electrical estimates. Accubid is the most user friendly on the market and with a very large database, it can be used right out of the box.

I have used this product for about 6 years and I have found it to be easy to use and has many features which work well with estimating a project.

Pros

Accubid Electrical works faster than other products I've used. there is no lag when it processes takeoff. Most of the interface is easy for me to use.

Advice to Others

I would recommend this product for electrical estimating. I have used other products but Accubid is one I find the easiest to use with many features I find to be helpful in taking off a project.

A lot of time is spent navigating the software, I really wish it could be more simple.

Pros

It seems to be able to encompass a lot.

Cons

Navigating the different tabs and finding where items and processes are buried.

Advice to Others

I'd like to see a way to make the GUI more intuitive. Too complicated for its own good (or the good of its user).

I have used this software for several years. While I'm not sure I would call it intuitive, it is fairly user-friendly to learn the basics. Some of the more complex functions require training or at least research to become efficient.

Pros

Flexibility to build your own assemblies for mass counting, plus there are ready-built assemblies included.

Cons

Price. Some functions could have been easier to operate in my opinion.

Value for Money

I have used Accubid for about 6 months now for electrical estimating. Overall, it gets the job done but I feel it lacks strong development behind the program.

Pros

I like the takeoff method it has. Very organized and easy to break out certain items relatively quickly.

Cons

The design severely lacks in terms of modern user graphics interface. This is unacceptable for software that cost thousands of dollars.

Advice to Others

Anyone considering this product will be putting it up against similar software that I have never used. I couldn't give reasonable advice until I figured out how Accubid compares to other estimating software.

Value for Money

I started with Accubid 9 years ago when it was on top of the market. While expensive for a small shop, it was worth every penny and paid for itself numerous times. Livecount takeoff, Trade Services vendor pricing, custom data base, and a very organized flow made the program very innovative and streamlined and at one time they had over 75% of the market.

Pros

Once the software is set up you can zip through projects with zero software errors. The program provides a flow that a lot of the other companies can't match.

Cons

Expensive per user cost. The database took a long time to customize. Not at all friendly to an "always on the move" estimator.

Advice to Others

I have not tried Accubid Enterprise yet, but I am sure its cost will be hard to justify now that the market is flooded with software options, however Trimble definitely leads the pack for MEP BIM.

Accubid is a program that we have used as a company for a many years and frankly I wouldn't want to use anything else. The system is laid out in an easy to use way once you understand how the program works. Additionally the reporting options and ability to break down estimates is unmatched.

Pros

Breakdowns, Reporting, Useability

Cons

Takes time to understand how things are connected

I have been using Accubid for nealy 5 years. It is the best Electrical estimating software on the market today, in my opinion.

Pros

Ease of use and combine it with Livecount, its great.

Cons

The light fixture feature should be able to rename the fixture assembly after being built, this feature is clumsy.

Advice to Others

It's better than any other electrical software on the market.
