This program was able to block out a virus that could have potentially taken over one of our computers! It alerted us and gave us the exact files so we could remove them!

It provides multiple levels of security to an organization's network. Installation is smooth and doesn't take a lot of time. It's management is convenient using a central console.

Pros

It provides complete flexibility to the administrator. He can chose to install updates and patches directly at the endpoints or can push to each endpoint using the server. It is very effective in detecting malware owing to it's Insight platform.

Cons

Customer care does not respond in time and at times the antivirus consumes a lot of CPU resources causing workstations to become unresponsive.

Advice to Others

I would recommend it to all organizations for securing their business networks without spending a lot. Currently, it can be only be deployed as on-premise solution, so it is not suitable for organizations looking for a on-demand solution.

Regarding antivirus solutions, Symantec has nothing to prove yet but the company is still doing a very good job in that industry. The virus definitions are always up to date and are for sure one of the best three on the market.
With Symantec EndPoint Protection, your business is under huge security regarding malwares and virus.
The Management Console offers a lot of good tools such as monitoring, reports, client management.

Likes Least

A con would be some of the tools in Management Console are not very simple to use and that console is not the quickest one I've seen.

Recommendations

In order to keep your business secure from trojan, malwares and other kind of virus, this business antivirus solution must be use.

Very good virus protection on symantec endpoint products

Support has always been terrible and its not getting better. They use India operators for their support. They cannot speak english clearly and are almost impossible to understand or communicate with. Refused to connect me to a us-based english speaking oeprator. They repeatedly ask for your information after they have taken it and given you a case number. DO NOT USE if you can avoid it.

Recommendations

Test their support phone number. I pay for support as part of my license, and it is a total waste of money. I will never buy this for a client again.

Very simple interface but still gives the ability to do set basic exclusions. Takes all the hassle of management out of SEP and gives an easy way to get reports and notifications on what is happening on your network

Likes Least

At times the product can be too simple. It expects you to want to use the normal basic profiles without any modifications.

Recommendations

The management console is quite different then the normal SEP product. This is both a good thing and a thing to take some time to explore. I did find it easier to learn and setup. Plus it removes the hassle of setting up a management server (but gives you the option to setup a local update server).

It scans and protects computers. It does what it is supposed to.

Likes Least

Symantec is a LARGE company and as a result support can be difficult to gain for the products. The on premise SEP is difficult to setup and keep running (especially if you change servers or need to do a lot of work with it's management console). It was also difficult for me to get good reports out of the system to alert me of devices that needed "correction"

Recommendations

Make sure you take some time to navigate through the management console to get a good feel for it.

The workstation deployment is very straight forward and updates can be easily pushed out. The antivirus protection is dependable and the firewall is flexible yet extensive enough to offer a solid protective layer.

Likes Least

The technical support documentation and support can be less than straight forward. If you encounter an error getting through support to get the correct answer may take some time.

Recommendations

This is great software for small and mid sized companies but this does require an administrator with a solid understanding of your network and your business rules. It can be processor intensive when scanning so be sure to schedule scans for off peak periods.

When compared with other security programs, Endpoint does not interfere with the regular everyday use of your computer. There are not many nagging notifications or any loss of functionality when something goes wrong.

Likes Least

Not to rant, but I think Symantec should focus more on improving the negative performance effects faced by some users. The application places too much of a strain on the system. To fully enjoy the benefits of the software, users would be forced to upgrade their hardware, which means more cost.

Recommendations

Symantec has the largest database of known threats, so if your network comes under attack, Endpoint Protection will stop it before any harm is done. There is the proactive threat function that disables programs suspected of malicious actions.

Symantec security features and settings are all centrally located and managed from one location. Their threat protection mechanism is sometimes capable of detecting unknown threats based on their behavior.

Likes Least

When there is a problem with the endpoint protection manager, the client computers do not update themselves from the internet. Therefore, your systems may become vulnerable to recently discovered threats until it is running again.

Recommendations

There are not many viable options when it comes to a comprehensive security solution. Symantec Endpoint Protection is the most convenient and realistic approach when it comes to network and computing security.

This antivirus does not run well on our older computers. We may need to do a memory upgrade before we can re-install the software on them.

We were introduced to this software by a sales rep when we purchased another software. The price seemed reasonable for the number of licenses. Totally worth the money.

The installation process was relatively easy. I say relative because I had to install it two or three times. The software ran smoothly and eradicated any bugs present. It manages the firewall effectively and updates itself regularly. It gives us peace of mind that if and when any viruses pop up, they'll be taken care of. It's worth the money.

The system performance suffers a bit during starting and shutdown. This however improves over time.

Symantec Protection combines most of the security features needed to protect your network from harmful threats both locally and externally.
