Essential for Vmware & HyperV admins
I got alerted about issues in 7 Virtual clusters. The thresholds i set, helped me make proactive decisions and prevent VM, ESX, Vcenter and cluster failures
PROSI enjoyed creating my own dashboard which made it easy for me to track all alerts by priority, see the RAM, CPU, disk usage in every cluster and take proactive decisions accordingly. The capacity planner tool was perfect when assessing the need for future server procurement. The reporting tool can be customized and has a very wide range of options that makes reporting fun & easy. Installation and upgrades are straightforward.
CONS1-You cannot control the VM from the console directly. 2- The application runs on a VM that you deploy. If the cluster hosting that VM went down, you wont get any notifications of that failure.

Virtualization Manager or VMAN is the best tool for admins and Virtualization
Integration in to Orion, it's insight in to your clusters, and other details you receive from it. I find it to be one of the more important tools in my administrative arsenal.

Of all SolarWinds tools, this might be the worst one
We are not using it any longer since we chose to use the tools that are part of service provider bundles from virtualization vendors, VMWare and Microsoft specifically.
PROSProvides some information about your virtualization infrastructue, but at least for service providers, it provides nothing you can get from products you are already getting from the different vendors.
CONSIt seems like SolarWinds chose not to evolve this product. There once was a time when it was innovative and really valuabe but it lagged behind the market. Now it is irrelevant.

Use it to manage our ESXi environments with over 50 hosts.
Able to forecast the usage of my ESXi environments and provide purchasing decision.
PROSAllow it to see usage (CPU, disk, memory, network) for you whole ESXi environments for either cluster or individual host. Has forecast capability to show future usage with data. Allow you to create alerts base on filter or criteria that you setup, and reporting tools as well.
CONSDifficult to troubleshoot or upgrade it to the latest version without support from SolarWinds. User interface is not very straight forward to use at sometime....

Great tool for monitoring my Virtual environment
What i like most is the recommendations that it gives to move machines to different hosts to even the work load across my environment. You can also select system you cannot move and it will recommend other changes
CONSThe only Con i see is price of course that is what anyone would say but you can save money in the long run by being able to plan your data purchases better with using this effectively
