Reliable, Intuitive Subscription Billing, but limited out-of-the-box checkout design flexibility
PayWhirl makes subscription billing automation easy - reducing the amount of human resources spent manually billing customers and correcting billing errors.
PROSPayWhirl is intuitive and quick to set up, and supports very flexible subscription billing rules / use cases in comparison to its competitors: Trial periods, period skipping, period-based coupon rules. Wrapped up in a highly intuitive, clean interface, managing subscribers is easy and billing errors are easily avoided. PayWhirl also provides a self-service account portal for customers to view and edit their subscriptions.
CONSPayWhirl offers API access to integrate with their billing engine that offers limitless possibilities for implementation. Without custom development, using PayWhirl means embedding their front-end checkout interface for customers - and the customization capabilities in terms of design, formatting, and the general checkout progression is limited. Custom CSS can be added for formatting, but it becomes inconvenient to edit via custom code. In the end, the built-in customization capabilities for the customer-facing checkout could be improved greatly - Otherwise, many administrators will be forced to complicate their IT with an API integration with the only reason being to adequately design their customers' checkout experience.

The software is easy to use and syncs up with the rest of our technology stack. CONSI'd love if they had call-anytime phone support. As it is, you can do phone support, but you need to schedule it in advance. That said, they're pretty fast for responsiveness in chat, and if you log off before they reply, everything is saved, so you can always see it later. It's the actual admins that you talk to instead of some random rep, so they're usually very knowledgeable.

"Terrible experience that negatively impacted our cash flow."
I had to get a support rep to help since the directions on the site for set up are outdated (as per the rep), but I assumed it was set up correctly after having their help. Wrong.Unfortunately with each payment (of a four payment plan), it places a new order and charges us for the on-demand product cost. Now I have to cancel all orders, refund everyone and figure out how I'm going to get these customers back.And of course, support takes way too long to respond, already a few hours in with no resolution to the second issue within two weeks of using the app. They told me to refund on Shopify, I do so and it says "request declined."I'm assuming what they didn't tell me was that I needed to cancel the subscription first so I did it in reverse and hope it works. Not sure until I see us the biz refunded for multiple orders.If the website support is outdated (and wrong), two reps don't know what they're doing ,and support takes way too long), how can you trust this app?

Couldn't be happier with a FANTASTIC product!!
I used to use ClickFunnels because it was the only service I was aware of that you could do order form bumps on (upsells) but EVERYTHING has to be set up one by one on Click funnels all the way from the customer receiving a receipt of payment etc. There is no member portal where the customers can manage their subscriptions and PayWhirl has the most amazing customer portal that I just embedded to my site. It works seamlessly!
PROSWOW! I am blown away at the functionality and how easy it is to use this software! It is the best recurring payment setup for subscription boxes as it allows UPSELL items to be added when the customer is checking out! I set up my entire account in one evening that included the sub boxes and upsell items. The next morning I had a few simple questions and got on the chat with the rep who answered my questions right away! The solutions to my problems were as easy as I had the wrong boxes checked which probably wouldn't have happened if I had taken time to watch their step by step set up videos. I couldn't be happier about this entire service and its worth the extra you pay for it!
CONSThe only problem Im still having is setting up my email address to send email from. The SMPT settings can be tricky, but this is NOT something that is wrong on PayWhirls end! It needs to be troubleshooted from my servers end.

Recurring Memberships Best Pricing
Excellent. I once had an issue with a large payment. It was a test payment, but it went through for real. They asked me when I wanted the transaction reversed. I explained what happened. They reversed it without any further questions.
PROSPayWhirl has the best pricing model: the most features for the lowest price. Plus, it works. It's easy to use. And, the support is good. It's not realtime, per my model, but it's sufficient.
CONSI'd like a little more WYSIWUGy in terms of the preformatted widgets. I'd like to tweak the layout a little. I don't have the time & resources to edit the code, so I use it out of the box. It works just fine as is, but I'd like to fiddle with it.
