Very Strong Mid-Tier Accounting Choice
Many years of relatively error free use with a large (100+) user base. New employees pick up the software very quickly. User setup maintains accounting privacy and data integrity keeping user rights aligned with their role in the office.
PROSVery easy to train users. Very strong export/import utilities for changing data, especially pricing.
CONSNeeds stronger support for U.S. taxes. Speed of processing for our very large database is sometimes a problem, especially during end-of-month invoicing.
Reason for choosing Spire
ROI. Cost benefit analysis. Biggest factor was 100% data conversion from BusinessVision and very little user training needed to make the change.
Reasons for switching to Spire
Needed a stronger software product that was keeping up with the technology.

Frustrations with maybe some hope or who knows
After a few months we were thinking we made a mistake going to Spire and will need to switch again but they did come out with the costing reports which gave us some hope. Now its been over 6 months and we are back to where we were in Feb thinking we will have ditch Spire again since the costing reports and bill of materials are not working and Spire has not given any commitment to address these concerns or not. If they could add a function or tool that would allow you to collapse all then expand all or just collapse all for all the bill of materials in inventory or select a range of numbers that would help to allow the costing reports to be used without spending hours / days going thru collapsing and expanding the bill of materials 1 by 1 to know how its being reported / costed. The fact that sub-assemblies don't get automatically updated is another concern since if you don't go thru each part that is using that sub-assemble and do the toggling it will never get updated, built right or costed properly. Basically way too much of the functionality / reports of the bill of materials is based on the toggle status of a bill of material and the only way of changing that status is 1 by 1 which is very non productive and going backwards in time.
PROSSearching and navigating around is very easy.Migrated from Business Visions Easily
CONSThe newly added costing reports that they added was a great sign but they initially were calculating the cost wrong of sub-assemblies, still don't total sub-assemblies cost up just pulls from last built so the numbers on the report do not add up to what it has for a total for that sub-assemble. The report goes off the last toggle status that bill of materials was saved at. So depending if its expanded out or collapsed it will give a different cost and the only way of knowing is going into each and every number to figure out the status and then set it according before running the report. If you change a bill of materials of an item that is used as sub-assemble in various other parts, that change is not updated in those parts, you manually have to go to each part, collapse all and expand all to force the update of that bill of materials for that sub-assemble item otherwise it will be built / costed wrong. It should force changes thru the system or at least make it an option to allow that. Also the lack of commitment / communication from Spire if they will add needed functionality or not is very frustrating too.
Reason for choosing Spire
Could pull all data and history into Spire and that it has more functionality, reporting, searching etc than Business Vision but that is not 100% true.
Reasons for switching to Spire
Sage is stopping support for Business Visions and no new development has happened in years.
Vendor Response
Thank you for your feedback. Spire's Production Manager module can assist further with some of these challenges. As well, our team has received the feature request and has it in the development queue. Please reach out to your Spire Partner.

Regrets
So much less robust than I was led to believe.
PROSIt was an easy transition from Business Vision.
CONSThere have been a number of things promised by Spire but indefinitely put off. MUCH to my disappointment.Unfortunately, Spire has been extremely slow to adopt other CC payment processors, and also very slow to implement the ability of customers to pay by clicking on a link. Very disappointing. This is a very important feature to me. Who has ever heard of Payfirma?I have been advised that there have been quite a few issues with v3.8 and v3.9 which doesn't install much confidence in new releases. It is my hope that v3.10 will finally be the version I can get safely upgrade to.I subscribe to your You Tube and contact my Spire affiliate whenever a new video is released to see about getting the features that interest me only to find out that they aren't available or aren't safe to install yet. I also with that I could integrate the information from my website easier and faster than the way I have to do it now. I would also like my orders from my website to be able to download into Spire. They do not.
Reasons for switching to Spire
It became obsolete.
Vendor Response
Spire continues to grow its relationships with outside vendors, namely in the payment processing space. This type of integration typically takes longer as it involves deeper integration into the accounting aspects of Spire. Version updates can sometimes be held back at the discretion of a Spire consultant. This advice usually depends on whether third-party applications are integrated or custom written that may or may not be affected by an upgrade. Our quality assurance process rigorously tests for every possible scenario; however, a consultant may sometimes advise waiting before installing an upgrade for a client. Hundreds of clients are running the most current version of Spire, and we encourage clients to discuss with other Certified Partners when it is best for them to upgrade. Click to pay is available with Payfirma, and we are working on providing other vendors. As well there are a variety of eCommerce solutions that integrate with Spire. We encourage you to consult with your certified Spire partner on these matters.

Let Down
We started off good, now we are seriously talking about changing already after 2 months of use. The most disappointing thing is that when our rep/reseller brought up our very legitimate concerns / needs with Spire, he was told that no one wants those features and to basically pound sand. We even offered to pay for the development of the costing reports. In the meantime he started looking through the community and several other partners brought these same concerns up over a year ago and continue to bring them up. The saying that if Business Visions can do it, Spire can do it is not true at all.
PROSSearching and navigating around is very easy.Migrated from Business Visions Easily
CONSImpossible to do a costing report of a manufactured item without physically building it and you have to mess around with toggling the bill of material to expand all components so it costs properly, which the toggle all feature does not work. You can not select multiple parts to cost / build, you have to do each part separately. Coming from BV, Spire lacks allot of basic function in terms of reports / costing. You can not print and email and invoice at once you can only do one and then have to go back an open it to do the other one.
Reason for choosing Spire
Were told that if BV can do it Spire can. (not true)Same reseller / partner that supported us with Business VisionAll the history was able to import
Reasons for switching to Spire
Only reason we made switch is that Sage is stopping support for Business Visions and no new development has happened in years.
Vendor Response
Spire has worked hard to deliver the most standard reports most businesses use. We have since included the requested report from this client in our release plans. At Spire, we value our customers and continue enhancing our software. While Spire is BV's most natural upgrade path, it is not a replica of BV. There are several similar fundamental aspects, but ultimately this is different software. We invite all Spire customers to speak with their certified Spire consultants, who in return do reach out to our team to continue to improve the software. We sincerely appreciate feedback on how we can make the software better.
