This tool is simple to use. Its useful in providing transparency of what's going on in our organization real time.

Pros

Yammer was easy to deploy for our company and everyone picked it up pretty quickly. Interface was familiar to those who know the Microsoft web interfaces.

Cons

It just feels unpolished and incomplete. After just over six months we stopped using it as it felt like it wasn't getting some needed attention from Microsoft.

Pros

Yammer shows promise, especially with the integration into Office 365. The various business style layouts/interface and social networking features are very nice and easy to use.

Cons

It really seems like Microsoft isn't supporting Yammer as much as they should be, and a lot of the social aspects seem to be migrating to Teams

Pros

It has most of the same features that you'll find on any social networking application like Facebook.

Value for Money

Pros

Provides an easy to use platform for communication and sharing. The relatively limited feature set keeps interacting with Yammer a straight forward experience. For our purposes Yammer provides a great substitute for the "Doctor's Lounge" that our physicians miss since we are a much larger organization than just a few years ago. Physicians can, in physician only environments, discuss patient cases and ask for advice and referrals to other specialists from a much larger community of their peers than are available at their physical location.

Cons

Because Yammer does not seem to have all the same connections to our AD database as other applications in Office 365 getting everyone onto the platform can be challenging. Creating and managing groups can be daunting as the platform is open. Controlling the types of communication on the platform can also be difficult and channel moderators have to stay vigilant. This does mean that the platform is creating new work for those staff chosen as channel moderators, and depending on adoption and usage this can be a significant commitment of time on a regular basis.

Good Idea. May or May Not be Useful.

Ease-of-use

Pros

Yammer is a very cool concept. It basically creates an online social network for your business which can be used for everything from project management to helping employees connect over shared interests. In that sense it is very flexible, and it allows people to connect at work in a way that they are connecting in non-work life already (ie on social media).
It's pretty easy to use, even without looking at any tutorials and if you're using other Microsoft products it fits in seamlessly.

Cons

No real cons if this is something you're interested in for your business. I think it would be used to greater advantage in a larger business. We're a small company, so it's not as challenging for all of us to keep track of each other and collaborate. In that sense, a product like Yammer might not be as useful for a small company.

Difficult to Find a Use for It

Ease-of-use

N/A

In summary, I would say it has potential, but lacks a niche.

Pros

It has all the features you'd expect from a social media platform; yet, because it's specific to your organization, you don't have the drawbacks of using public social media platforms, such as Facebook and Instagram.

Cons

In spite of the fact that I've used this software at two 20,000+ employee organizations, I've yet to see it put to much practical use. It seems to be most advertised for collaboration, but collaboration still seems to happen much more naturally in person or via email. It just isn't as in your face as an email or a conversation; so, it's difficult to motivate folks to use it as much as they use more entertainment-related social media apps.

In my limited experience with Yammer, I have found it to be very intuitive, and compelling for colleagues to utilize for ongoing, relatively informal professional conversations.

Pros

Very familiar interface, just like any social media platform. It is fun, and allows for things like liking and commenting on posts.

Cons

I am confused with what the purpose of Yammer is. If you have Office 365, you will probably be making company-wide announcements in an intranet on SharePoint. For conversations within a team, you will use Conversations within a team, Skype, or the Teams App. I just don't see the application.

Pros

Yammer acts like a social media platform inside of an organization.... it's like a facebook for your company. It can be used to share information, photos, updates, events, projects, and anything else. It's a good internal tool for communicating to people in your company. You can also create groups and sub-groups to make things easier to navigate.

Cons

With so many groups that you can follow, it can get very segmented very quickly, and it's possible that you can miss information. You can set up notifications however which helps. Visually it could benefit from some updates as well.

When we implemented Yammer I was able to communicate with individuals in my organization that I normally didn't interact with frequently. It is very user friendly and make communication and collaboration quick and easy.

Pros

Easy to use, user friendly, brings individuals together quickly, increases communication.

Cons

This may be a quirk of how it was set up for our organization and my inexperience with the product, but initially there was too much communication regarding issues, departments, etc. that didn't at all apply to me so I tuned out. Understanding how to use groups is critical.

Yammer is feature rich, with all the features you'd come to expect from Facebook included: Create a profile, add a picture, connect with colleagues, news feed, profile walls, add photos, tag photos, alert users with notifications, etc. If you're looking for a social network for your company this one does a decent, though generic, job. Also they have a freemium edition which has most of the functionality you'd need.

Likes Least

The main challenge with Yammer is getting people to use it. All the benefits of social networking in the company (knowledge transfer, communication, community building) can be real and valuable, but I've seen many attempts to create an active online community fail at my company. I think only with strong executive buy in will Yammer actually be valuable for a company, and all the great features Yammer adds can't fix this. We didn't have that executive buy-in and Yammer, Chatter, Flowdock, all failed to gain traction

Recommendations

Ask yourself if you really have exec buy in to push adoption of Yammer (or any internal social network). These networks do not just create themselves - they need ongoing TLC especially from execs.

If you don't want to communicate with your colleagues in a more traditional Email/Phone/Face-to-Face, at least you can use this to show your boss that you don't hate them.

Likes Least

There is nothing to dislike. However, there is nothing new to like neither. I doubt that any enterprise is not using some kind of collaboration tools already. Be it group level, department level or even document level, companies are already using some tools to make their daily work easier. Yammer doesn't offer anything new, at least functional-wise.

Recommendations

You may feel excited if you never used any collaboration tools and are not on Facebook. If you and your colleague doesn't talk in real life, you won't do it in this neither.

You are able to join specific department's yammer threads if you are interested in a specific area of the company. The daily summaries allow you to know what is going on without having to search for information.

I'm not using Yammer for a long period now, but when I did, I liked it. It has a great potential to be a content manager and a great company social media tool (communication channel).

Pros

Yammer is a complementary tool for sharing information, tutorials and documents inside an intranet. It can complement SharePoint's content management experience for a company. You can create a profile there and interact to other employees in a "social media" like tool. It has many features to create a blog, a tutorial, a wiki and many other things that can help your company to not lose knowledge as the teams keeps changing. New employees can find information and get a smaller learning curve by reading articles that more experienced people may have written on daily tasks or difficult problems that may arise.

Cons

I guess its adhesion was too low. In my company many people just don't like to use it because they don't know what is it exactly. It's such a great tool but looks like it was left aside. Maybe Microsoft could do a little marketing to help it grow and be more known by people all around the world. Maybe Microsoft Teams is more important to they...
