GFI LanGuard is an on-premise network security and patch management solution for small, midsize and large businesses. Primary features include patch management, vulnerability assessment, network and software auditing and dashboards.

GFI LanGuard scans users’ systems automatically and on-demand to detect, assess and correct any network/software vulnerability. It auto-downloads missing patches or rolls back updates to achieve stable and consistent configuration on all the devices connected to the network. Other features include compliance management, change management, inventory assessment and total cost of ownership (TCO) management.

It offers integration with Apple QuickTime, Adobe Acrobat, Adobe Flash Player, Adobe Reader, Shockwave Player, Mozilla Firefox, Mozilla Thunderbird, Java Runtime and more.

It is compatible with Windows, Mac and Linux operating systems. Support is offered via email and over phone. Other support options include a knowledge base, documentation and a help center. It is available in English, Italian, German, Japanese and Chinese.

Visibility into endpoint patch levels and vulnerabilities.

Pros

Easy to navigate
Quick glance tells you how your patches and vulnerabilities are
Syncs with Active directory

Cons

Tech support is horrendous - very slow response and email only
Adding more licenses after the original purchase is not cost effective

GFI is an effective tool for patching software on the network

lots of man hours saved using this application to patch machines across the network

Pros

The software provides automated re-starts , patching of third party software and providing a list of users on the domain

Cons

reports are not the best, the next version should have the input for better reporting.
It is suggested that this area be looked at.

Bit slow sometimes when you click to open certain setting.

It captures the information we require and assist in patching and keeping our network protected.

Pros

The ability to do multi patching and updates simultaneously. I like the reporting feature where you are able to generate reports and send patches to the client without interrupting work.

Cons

The unnual renewal and maintenance cost. This may need to be reviewed as the ability to added users are sometimes limited by this.

Good Tool to Patch Applications

GFI Languard is used to patch Microsoft and other third party tools. The reports generated needs to be sorted in order to be used for reporting. This feature requires improvement, but overall the tool is worth the cost.

Languard is what we were needing for a long time..

Languard is a great product to deploy patches throughout distributed environments. Easy interface, user friendly, nice reports, automation and scheduling of tasks, auto remediation, etc. It also serves as a scanner to check for vulnerabilities, not only software-related but miss-configurations and other things that can be mitigated. It can be used to scan everything.

Pros

non-stop ongoing patching and remediation, based on locations, settings. Relays can be set to distribute the load. One single pane of glass for all patch-related information. I heard new version is web based and has multiple administrators.

Cons

Currently one single console user at a time can use the system and will have to RDP into the server, so if you are running a task and another person logs on to the server, it will bring a duplicate session but will not work. The new version is supposed to fix this (hopefully).

Also, need faster convergence on reports coming back from agents.
