Shelter Boss at HSPC

PROS

Shelterboss handles the posting of lost and found animals to a common database. Entries can be added by the public and staff. When an animal goes though intake we are prompted to review all similar animals that had been reported as lost. Shelter Boss supported the collection of images and files. Foe people we scan and attach copies of their driver's license. Every animal in our system gets their picture taken and attached to their record. Documents related to people or animals like rabies certificates, intake paperwork, outcome documentation, and surgery reports. For legal processes shelterboss allows us to store digital evidence. The ability to create our own documents that are printed with database values filled in (merged documents) and our own reports has allowed us to grow in size and complexity.

CONS

As we learned Shelterboss there were things we either thought were odd or didn't work as we might expect. Once we learned how to interact with the system these minor things were not a problem. An example is there are many places were a "find" command button is used. Our first reaction was to press enter and expected the system to process the find. We learned that we needed to click the find button. We also learned that there were frequently additional selection buttons that make having a default action for the enter key a problem.

Reason for choosing Shelter Boss

We wanted a solution where we could implement a base set of features and additional features as we mastered the initial features. We implemented Lost and Found first. Then we imported our animal inventory and used the adoption and reclaim features. Later we added medical features and turned on the export to petfinder and the automated microchip registry with Datamars.

Reasons for switching to Shelter Boss

We had outgrown the capabilities of our system and needed an integrated solution.
