Good for projects with SOX controls behind, not really friendly for developers

I find this tool really good for projects with large amount of small requests - it will help to organize things and probably avoid compliant situations. But from the other side - the price of it - you might loose on code quality as you start organizing your developments not in a proper way - but as the tool requires Disclaimer: this feedback is based only on my personal experience and doesn't attract anyhow opinion of my employer

PROS

- much better and simplier UI comparing to Solman for example - testing process is really integrated into software development - many SOX controls/ audit reports are in-place - JIRA intergration

CONS

- by making it simple the tool might become a nightmare for developers which love to have control on things they do - forget about releasing TRs in GUI/Eclpise. The tool will do it for you. But if it finds any issues - you have to go back to SAP and run ATC/Unit tests again - performance is extremely slow for big TRs. It works fast for small requests like customizing. But if you have monthly release with at least 2K objects - it will take nearly 10 mi nutes per each analysis run which is obligatory. So in other words I do not see this tool really fits waterfall development model. I doubt it will handle 40K objects request like I saw in the past on different clients - no Restful API

Vendor Response

Hi. Thanks for providing your feedback on ActiveControl. It's great to hear that the tool has helped you to manage projects involving a lot of small requests and that you feel it's 5-star for features. As you may know, ActiveControl is designed to enable DevOps in SAP and fast, frequent production deployments are typical when working with a DevOps approach. However, I can also confirm that ActiveControl is extremely effective in traditional Waterfall scenarios. We have many clients using it that way, sometimes to move many thousands of transports at a time. The other points you've raised - e.g. when analyzers run - are mainly workflow choices that would have been defined by your company at some point. If you think that your organization could optimize their use of ActiveControl please get in touch with support@basistechnologies.com - we'd be happy to discuss with you and share some more information about what's possible.
