Fast, easy shopping cart

Easy to setup and get to work. Customization takes a bit of time (depending on the developers), but customer support is very helpful.

PROS

I can add a shopping cart to any page easily. It loads a lot faster than basic Shopify plans which equals higher conversions. It's also more affordable than Shopify as you are only paying for sales. Can customize it how I want it to be Is headless Lots of apps connected via Pipedream

CONS

I wanted to integrate Voucherify with it, so I could have more custom promo code options, as I can only set up a max of 3 rules for a promo product and can't do custom promo codes. Unfortunately, at this time the promo features can't be disabled from the main shopping cart but I hope that changes in the future.

Reason for choosing Snipcart

Value and ability to customise how I want.

Reasons for switching to Snipcart

Shopify pages were taking too long to load on the shopify not premium version Cheaper to scale and they only charge you based on sales.

The easiest headless e-commerce integration I've ever seen

Enabling small companies to run a headless e-commerce, connecting multiple websites and landing pages to a central location that keeps and handles all e-commerce data. For a developer, it's an easy, flexible and robust platform, that could only be better if it had a different pricing model, specifically for larger stores, when the 2% of gross sales will become prohibitive.

PROS

It's really easy to integrate, and for most cases you can get away with a simple JS drop-in. Doesn't get any easier than that, however, should you need to fully customise your integration, Snipcart won't let you know. It's still easy to add custom products, bundles and to define your own logic to add stuff to cart. Simple, flexible, yet powerful.Being headless, means you can easily integrate multiple websites/landing pages and still get all your e-commerce data in a single location, which is a big selling point.

CONS

I'm not a big fan of the pricing mode. They charge 2% of sales, which may be OK for small stores, but definitely not going to fly with bigger customers. Keep in mind we're talking about 2% of gross sales, on top of whatever you're paying to your payment processor.

Reasons for switching to Snipcart

To have a headless e-commerce solution that would be simple and cost efficient to implement, allowing clients to connect multiple different frontends to a single central "store".

Easily deploy a small shop on top of your existing website

I had a couple clients who wanted to sell just a handful of items. They couldn't justify a full e-commerce-as-a-service monthly payment of $30+, or to rely on the kind-of-shaky (and complicated to setup) stack of WooCommerce on WordPress. Snipcart allowed them to sell just a few items with only a 2% sales fee. The $10 minimum monthly cost was way better than the $30 for Shopify, and they weren't doing enough sales to go over $30 in additional fees. Plus, using their existing CMS allowed us to roll out the sales at a much lower development cost than it would have been to build out an entire Shopify store and match the branding of the existing site.

PROS

Super simple integration HTML-based product specifications make it easy to create products Supports recurring/subscription payments Very easy to build out an MVP shop Scales from few to many products with little extra work

CONS

Styling the injected UI is a bit convoluted and requires a little bit of developer-style know-how. It's not impossible, and their documentation thoroughly covers the styling. Definitely more code-based than point-and-click type of customization.

Reason for choosing Snipcart

Liked the pricing structure better than Shopfiy and liked the stability better than WooCommerce

Vendor Response

Appreciate the review! I think you described very well the kind of positioning we're aiming at versus platforms such as Shopify and WooCommerce. Customization is indeed dev-oriented, but don't hesitate to contact our dev team via support if there's anything that needs clarification. We hope your clients are happy with their e-commerce integrations! Cheers from the whole team :)

A good option depending on your needs

Their free-use for development mode is extremely useful, I spent a long time building the project including hassling their support a lot before finally launching and paying them. For the most part, their support were helpful sending me in the right direction. It's possible it wasn't the best option in retrospect given the nature of my particular site, but it does work well and could be perfect for certain use cases.

PROS

It's one of the best pre-packaged, ready to go solutions for JAMstack/statically generated websites with built-in price validation. It is the best used when integrating using their webhooks which make it a powerful tool.

CONS

It's feature list is fairly basic (though partly by design) and not for everyone. Most elements can be manually expanded through extra development but if you are after complex functionality it may not be worth it. It is not the best option if you need to facilitate orders/payments separately from the website (in store, over the phone, email etc). While 2% fees on transactions isn't the most expensive option, it isn't necessarily cheap either. I think slightly more competitive pricing considering the feature gap between larger solutions could be more enticing.

Vendor Response

Thank you for taking the time to do a review. We appreciate it. Our solution can be customized and expanded but requires developers' work. We are not the best solution for more edge cases e-commerce needs. However, we're constantly improving our offering. We would love to hear more details about your project and the functionalities you needed if you have a moment. You can send us an email at marketing@snipcart.com. Cheers.

If you want to sell products on your website without complex integration, Snipcart is the way!

I've used Snipcart in two businesses now for instances where a client or myself have wanted to sell a handful of products on a website that wasn't really made for eCommerce in the first place. It works a treat and is an affordable, easy to set up solution.

PROS

Snipcart is really easy to set up to get product and checkout solution running on your website with very little code knowledge, and less security hassle. It took just 30 minutes for me to have a live implementation of projects for sale on my website through Snipcart.

CONS

I haven't encountered any faults or issues with Snipcart yet, though I'm sure I'll find quirks with further use over time.

Vendor Response

Appreciate the review! Since Snipcart works with any web tooling (CMS, SSG, frameworks, etc.), some quirks sometimes do pop up! If they do, we'd be more than happy to help - just shoot us a message via Intercom. Our devs will do their best to help you create an awesome e-commerce experience. Cheers from the whole team!

Snipcart is easy to spin

PROS

Separates the commerce logic from the frontend. You can use whatever frontend/CMS stack you're most comfortable with.

CONS

Integrations are lacking. Needs a backend developer to use webhooks for your other services.
