Modernizing patient scheduling in medicine. A near end-game product.
Cortico is what I expect to be possible if a major tech company (thinking Google/Apple/Microsoft/Facebook) were to design this interface. It is fully featured with an advantage over its competition in every aspect. Whether you are looking to get online booking for the first time or looking at getting an upgrade, you will not be disappointed.
PROSOnline booking is very easy to use. We continue to remark on it to no end. When our new clinic opened to patient booking, we booked 604 patients within 48-72 hours. As a small office with only 2 MOAs, this volume would not have otherwise been possible if we had to book everyone by phone. Scheduling templates are easy to manage and it integrates with Cortico hassle-free. Different appointment types can be built into the scheduling template depending on your preference, including having dedicated phone/video, dedicated in person visits, or any combination thereof. Consequently, when patients book online, they will see available appointment slots also depending on the type of visit they choose. Cortico also allows you to create different types of appointments, for example, regular appointments, private appointments, specialist appointments, or procedural appointments. If different types of appointments require different lengths of appointments, Cortico will search for all availabilities without needing you to change your existing schedule template to specially accommodate all types of appointments. Cortico also allows you to easily charge any types of fees, ensuring that you are remunerated for non-insured services in what is historically a non-reliable cash transaction. This includes any notes that will be released online after payment, private fees paid in full or by deposit at time of booking, or any unexpected fee resulting after a visit.
CONSThere really is no down side. Our clinic is based in BC, and between all our providers, have used every current EMR and their main add-on technology for online booking (CHR, Accuro, MedAccess, MYLE, Wolf, Ofys). There is no comparison. We have gone with Oscar as our main EMR because Cortico integrates so well with it, essentially prioritizing Cortico beyond the EMR selection. Both Oscar and Cortico understand that the the user should have more control over the settings which is very important to me. Cortico modernizes Oscar, now in line with the most advanced EMR without all of their disadvantages - corporate top-down and non-sensible updates, useless features clogging the interface, heavy on processing power, slow due to VPN, too many clicks, and inability to charge uninsured fees.
Reasons for switching to CORTICO
ease of use, control over settings, integrates seamlessly with Oscar, ability to charge uninsured fees at time of booking, one-way communication with patients (I personally prefer this very much, allowing me to send patients notifications, results, requisitions without having to deal with responses which should be discussed during appointment time).

Excellent software, well supported, continuous innovation
We have successfully diverted hundreds of hours of phone calls from the front desk, which has allowed staff to focus on other activities. Additionally, Cortico has increased access through enabling bookings to be made at any time of the day. For our same day/urgent workflow, we see >50% of these bookings made when the clinic is closed (think mother with sick child in the middle of the night being able to book &the associated peace of mind). So very happy on this front.The UI is intuitive and training requirements have been minimal. Staff have adapted quickly and appreciate the features. Overall a great success.
PROSWe purchased for the patient self-booking feature and it has been easy to integrate through our website. Love the constant innovation that is being applied to the platform - for example the plug-in has been a huge benefit to the doctor's workflows. Support has been easy to deal with and very responsive when needed. Honestly, Cortico makes Oscar bearable and functional.
CONSNothing I really like the least. There are features we have opted to not use, but that's hardly a criticism.

Using Cortico with Oscar
Very useful software that will save your time and your staff's time. Will also free up the phone lines by allowing patients to Book and change appointments on line.
PROSIntegrates very well with Oscar EMR. It works as a browser plug-in allowing seamless integration with the EMR. Once the plug-in is installed new buttons appear allowing new windows and features to be added to Oscar.
CONSThere's still needs to be additional work to integrate HRM reports. This is specific to Ontario and this product was initially developed in BC. They are apparently working on adding HRM integration.
