It's positive, but ultimately we could get more out of the system, our implementation partner was poor, but with a better partner we are realising the benefit of the software.

#### Pros

It is a scalable product. We started out with a team of 5 and now at a team of 60 worldwide, this product is ready and available to scale when you are.

#### Cons

It requires someone with a developers background to get the most out of it, we were sold on it being a flexible system which it is, but only in the right hands.

### Solid data layer sitting behind a slow front end

- Overall rating: 3/5
- Reviewer: Verified Reviewer
- Verified reviewer: Yes

I integrated Business Central with outside systems rather than using it as my daily tool. As a data source it held up: the APIs were stable and the records were consistent. As software to sit in front of, it is slow, and it assumes you already know ERP logic that it never explains. If you are on the Microsoft stack and need the accounting core, the trade works out. If you expect a modern web app, you will spend a while being annoyed.

#### Ratings breakdown

- Ease of use: 2/5
- Functionality: 4/5

#### Pros

I worked with Business Central from the outside, through its APIs, rather than living in the interface. Most standard entities are exposed over REST and OData, so I could read and write records without waiting on someone to build a custom endpoint for me. Authentication runs through the standard Microsoft identity setup, so there was no separate credential store to maintain. Sandbox environments made testing safe: I broke things in a copy without touching live company data. What came back over the API matched what the ledger showed, and I did not end up reconciling two versions of the same record.

#### Cons

The web client is slow. Opening a list, filtering it, and drilling into a record each cost a page load, and on large tables the wait is long enough to lose your train of thought. The learning curve is the other half of it. The logic underneath comes from NAV, and the naming does not explain itself: posting groups, dimensions, and the rules about when a document will post. Without someone who already knows the system you will spend your first weeks in forums working out why an operation was rejected. The API surface has the same problem. Standard APIs, custom APIs, and OData endpoints overlap, the documentation covers them in separate places, and picking the right one for a given entity took trial and error.

We had high hopes for Business Central transitioning off QuickBooks, but found BC to be pretty limited and difficult to use for the majority of our users. We find that normal functionality out of an ERP system often requires customizations in Business Central. We are overall disappointed with the product.

#### Ratings breakdown

- Ease of use: 2/5
- Value for money: 2/5
- Customer support: 2/5
- Functionality: 3/5

#### Pros

Being a Microsoft product has innate ease for sign-in and organizational management. I also like how there are many add-ins available as well. Beyond that, there aren't many things we like about the product.

#### Cons

The reporting functionality is very limited, as it seems like any reporting that we need is custom functionality. I also don't like how BC isn't natively integrated with other Microsoft Dynamics products and requires third-party connector tools.

#### Reasons for switching to Dynamics 365 Business Central

We were hoping to get a more robust ERP system that could link directly to a CRM system (Dynamics 365).

Since we migrated from NAV 2016 to BC, the overall experience has been positive. Thanks to its high flexibility for extensions, we've successfully streamlined our own WMS and EDI integrations.

#### Ratings breakdown

- Ease of use: 5/5
- Value for money: 3/5
- Customer support: 4/5
- Functionality: 4/5

#### Pros

I greatly appreciate BC's high degree of flexibility and scalability. Building upon its foundational architecture, we can freely expand the system to meet our company's specific requirements.

#### Cons

SaaS information processing is subject to network conditions. If network outages or server disruptions occur—as happened previously—it can cause business interruptions. While such incidents are rare, they still carry significant consequences. We hope to transition back to an on-premises solution.

Overall, our experience with Dynamics 365 Business Central has been positive. It has provided us with a reliable, centralised system to manage finances, operations, and reporting across our organisation. As a tourist attraction and charity, having accurate, real-time data is critical, and Business Central supports this well. With some ongoing optimisation and user familiarity, it continues to add value and improve our efficiency.

#### Ratings breakdown

- Ease of use: 4/5
- Value for money: 4/5
- Customer support: 4/5
- Functionality: 4/5

#### Pros

We found Dynamics 365 Business Central to be a very flexible and scalable system that works well for our needs as both a tourist attraction and a charity. The integration with Microsoft tools like Excel, Outlook, and Power BI has been particularly useful for improving reporting and day-to-day efficiency. It provides a clear financial overview, helping us manage donations, admissions, and operational costs in one place, which is essential for our organisation.

#### Cons

Some areas of Dynamics 365 Business Central can feel complex, particularly during initial setup and when customising workflows to suit a tourist attraction and charitable environment. Certain processes are not always intuitive, and users may require additional training. Additionally, reporting can sometimes require external tools or extra configuration to fully meet our specific needs.

I would create quotes and invoices using D365 BC. It is tedious, cumbersome, and nowhere near as clean, quick, and easy as Salesforce. I thought Salesforce was bad until I was introduced to Business Central and then quickly realized how much better I had it.

#### Ratings breakdown

- Ease of use: 1/5
- Functionality: 2/5

#### Pros

Things could be done in it's own silo without interfering with regular Dynamics 365.

#### Cons

Everything else. It was beyond cumbersome to just create a quote or invoice for a customer, and Salesforce combines everything into one, easier system. I think management at Prestige Medical Imaging went with it just because it was cheaper, but it wastes so much time.

#### Reasons for switching to Dynamics 365 Business Central

Upper Management at Prestige Medical Imaging made the choice with no input.

#### Ratings breakdown

#### Pros

I like Microsoft Dynamics since it synchronizes very well with the office suite, it has helped me increase productivity and profitability. It offers analysis and reporting tools to make forecasts, as well as the ability to monitor the inputs and outputs of the projects I am in charge of.Dynamics 365 allows me to get the requirements from my clients as well as my supplier partners with ease and has helped me create a perfect wokflow for my business. Additionally, Dynamics 365 allows me to onboard new clients, collect and save their data, and easily access it when I need it.

#### Cons

A negative point is its price, it is expensive. And synchronization with other platforms is dificult, from my point of view it should be more open for better interaction with other software.

My experience was horrible as partners can deploy the Software but theask you enormous amounts over R200k to set it up. I also found that there is no support in South Africa for the software, you cannot phone quickly and found out how a thing is working. You have to go through the trouble to watch videos or read on Microsoft Learn. I could also not found one accountant who could work in this software for over two years. This was my biggest headache as well as the support on this software.

#### Ratings breakdown

- Ease of use: 2/5
- Value for money: 1/5
- Customer support: 1/5
- Functionality: 5/5

#### Pros

Business Central is a great software with a lot of functionalities. It is the best account ing software in the market..

#### Cons

Business Central support is South Africa does not exist. The partners are really useless and see Business Central as a way to make a quick buck. They rip you off and want to charge over R200k. I worked through business central and to set it up should not cost you more than 10k. Another setback is that you don't get accountants in South Africa that know how the software is working. I tried to find accountants for months, and not even one Microsoft partner could refer me to one accountant who knows the software. In South Africa as soon as you put the name Microsoft to a product the Microsoft partners want to Ripp you off? Microsoft business Central licencing is also very expensive and is around R1200 per user. Sage one accounting is very cheap against Business Central and they have quality support. I cannot see a feature for Business Central in South Africa as it is too expensive and basically you don't have any support for it in South Africa.

#### Reasons for choosing Dynamics 365 Business Central

It is very good platform

#### Reasons for switching to Dynamics 365 Business Central

I made the switch because the Microsoft products are top notch but I realised my mistake that it is very expensive and that the support are minimal.

I joined AL FANAR Electricals Co. KSA -in 2003, it has been decided to replace ERP system with NAV, Tec.Support was provided by AL FANAR IT an affiliate company who became golden partnership with Microsoft later and provided the system if Gulf Market, the implementation was very successful, early versions of NAV in 2003 was famous as (Navision Attain) at that time, the system provided a splendid AR, AP, and inventory reports and controls, was helpful in regional trading credit controls and manufacturing process, in 2006 the company upgraded the software to NAV5 and we learned a lot about setup requirements, Posting groups, general business posting groups, sales and system generated transactions setup accounts and matrix, Exr. Var and global dimensions etc..., in 2007 I joined Gulf Capital KSA the company management recommended NAV at that time tec. support provided by (NEWWAY) and I was assigned as a project manager, later in 2009 I joined ROTANA Media Group who recommended same ERP as well. now new versions of NAV are available with business intelligence tools and some additional great features, I expect this fast positive evolvement of MS Dynamics will make them first Market Choice in a short time. I used several softwares before and after NAV like (Dolphin, Oracle, Klipper, and others..) from my experience what I like most in NAV and make it remarkable are the following : - SQL Server which provides flexible opened platform allow users to move to any information details and jump between templates they want from anywhere in the system to get information rather than closing screens and reopening another, other systems cannot provide this Dynamic feature. - Reasonable and Logical controls of the system over transactions complying with exact financial requirements, other systems have nonsense controls in useless areas and gaps in other critical areas, and stand hopeless needing customization for an axiomatic small things. - Easy and Smart setup requirements and users profiles access. - Huge bank of ready reports provided by global MSD teams and partnership - Friendly user = easy training - Easy setup of financial reporting BS, Income statements , cash flow , Budgeting and variances any other because it leaves to user to choose , items lines name , tagging accounts, dimensions needed cost centers or business units , even user can add the equations of some financial statements lines ! - Easy customization and easy editing of all tables screens - High Compatibility with Excel MS Office. - Reasonable cost with complete business solutions package and including project management, Human resources, Cash Management etc..

#### Cons

No Disadvantages or defaults in my opinion if implementation requirements are clear and correct and finance knows exactly controls, processes outputs they need. everything is there in this system.

### Scott M.'s review

- Overall rating: 1.5/5
- Reviewer: Scott M.
- Product usage: Used unspecified for unspecified
- Reviewed: July 2013
- Review source details: This review was submitted organically. No incentive was offered

I have worked in the supply chain for 5 years now and have experience with 3 different ERP's. Our old ERP was limiting, though it was also fairly straight forward. The biggest issue seemed to be how incredibly date sensitive how ever without requiring dates at the same time. This pushed the change to a new ERP and Microsoft NAV was chosen through their partner company Just Foods. A truly bizarre system, the flow of documentation through the program makes little sense and over complicates what would normally be easy transactions. For instance Purchase Orders follow this document flow - First the purchase order is created once you receive your order, a warehouse receipt document is created and received in. However, once it is received in the warehouse, the receipt document disappears and becomes a posted receipt document (both have completely different document numbers that don't connect to each other). At this point your original Purchase order has been changed to reflect what ever was received in, and you have to have a second column to view what you originally ordered. Otherwise, figuring out if you over or under received is difficult at best. Now once the invoice comes in and is posted against the posted warehouse document, your purchase order disappears. The only place your purchase order exists in its original form is the in Purchase order Archive, which was never mentioned to us during implementation, forcing us to call Just Foods later on and pay for their customer service. This same, strange flow of documents, that are essentially intermediary documents only existing to complete a transaction, over complicate what should be a straight forward shipping and receiving process. There are some other basic functionality issues, like figuring out what day you actually shipped or received an item. The easiest way to figure that out seems to require access to the warehouse functionality, which you may or may not want people to have. We get a lot of errors where the tables are locked with other users, and you are just stuck until the report or other person finishes up. The Dimensions on lines can mysteriously disappear, even though the G/L Code and Department code show as filled out in the order. Our MRP has never worked correctly, so in general, we are forced to use Excel to put together our production schedule. All in all, its a sub-par program that you can tell is 5 or 6 different original programs that have been slapped together to try an resemble an ERP system. Now having said all that, obviously I am looking at this from a supply chain perspective as it is what I do. Perhaps on the accounting end it has some ease of use, but due to how difficult it is to understand on the operations end, the accounting rarely comes out correct due to faulty information in the system. On the positive side there do seem to be a million different ways to do the same thing in NAV, and many of the built in reports are extremely useful assuming that the information in the system is correct.

#### Pros

Integration with outlook is the best. No more downloading and sending separate emails. I also liked the fact that it comes with a BI tool for reporting, this was a crisis on Dynamics Navision 2009. The price for the product is very reasonable for small and bigger companies.

#### Cons

Difficult to get support from the partners who implemented.

#### Reasons for switching to Dynamics 365 Business Central

Microsoft Dynamics Navision 2009 was outdated and no longer supported.

#### Pros

As some on who has to use this software daily in a client facing role this is the worst product in the world. If you are the product procurement officers and looking for a CRM, you will be hated for years, long after you are gone if you make your co workers use this product. Even making a client card is like puling teeth, the search query for products is ridiculously hard to use.

#### Cons

This software makes me want to quit my job because it is so difficult to do any part of the sales process on it. Searching products, making quotes, checking my orders. Also there is no notifications so you dont know when your case has moved along unless you go and physically check it which is also not easy. Once again, if you buy this product you a damning your co workers to years of mental anguish and some might genuinely start hating their job so much that they quit. YOU WERE WARNED.
