Function Point is a cloud-based solution for advertisement agencies that features project management, project accounting, team collaboration, data visualization and data analysis. The solution is suitable for agencies of all sizes.

Function Point’s project management feature enables managers to track upcoming tasks, create interactive Gantt charts and assign workflows to team members. It also allows team leaders to calculate quantitative metrics such as return on investment, and they can forecast budgets and pricing. The platform facilitates collaboration between team members, as it provides a single platform to communicate messages and share documents.

The solution’s analytics feature enables professionals to collect, clean, visualize and summarize data in real time. Function Point integrates with Quickbooks Online to provide accounting capabilities.

Sometimes we have issues syncing expenses with QuickBooks.

Pros

Everything that Function Point is designed to do is almost perfect. Works well, and is easy enough to use. Love both the functionality and integration with other software.

Cons

The user interface could be a bit less clunky. It looks and feels dated and busy. I'd rather the processes were more linear as opposed to having everything open with users able to click on any text box at any time.

Pros

Function point is incredibly good at consolidating your billable hour tracking, creative briefs, projects and more. Additionally, it allows you to have multiple team members working on the same project at once.

Cons

The only thing that I have found frustrating with function point is how easily the timer clears (you win this one, toggl). If you accidentally close the tab you were tracking time in, say bye-bye to your accurate number. This is easily solved by popping out the timer, but sometimes you just forget.

Great so far. I haven't used any other tracking software so it's difficult to compare. I like the reliability of the platform though, as it never seems to be down which is important.

Pros

All in one place for timesheets, estimates and invoices.

Cons

Creating a quick estimate for a potential client can be cumbersome. If the deal doesn't close, then you have this client contact in the system which may not be useful, where adding and maintaining this client is not efficient.

It works, and it isn't any work at all.

Pros

It's easy to use, and it keeps track of everything. I record my time often, sometimes every 15 minutes, and it isn't a problem to enter it quickly. It's not a chore or a hassle, and timesheets are usually both.

Cons

Having to log in every day, even though that only takes about three seconds.

Excellent - the only issue was when they updated the display of the task page and the took the feedback and improved it for the customer!

Pros

I love how naturally intuitive the software is. It's really easy to use and navigate - couldn't be any simpler!

Cons

We were disappointed with how the "add a task" page was functioning but the Customer Service team heard our feedback and restored the page to how it previously displayed.

For regular employees, the system is fine. It lets them enter all the pertinent information. I like how I know where my project stands at any given time - visually it's easy to see that from the screens without having to jump around too much

Cons

I think the billing features could use some work. We bill a lot of our clients via retainer and it just doesn't work as smooth as it should compared to regular time billing

- It's fairly intuitive
- It does keep all information on a job together, in one place
- The customizable dashboards based on how you will use it in your role
- Timesheets are straight foward and easy to use (makes for easier tracking on a job)
- Dashboards on where a project is sitting financially are nice

Cons

- The amount of clicks it takes to get to certain areas (ie - hours assigned on a job or getting into an estimate when you don't recall the job number)
- Scheduling could be so much better! Incorporating a scheduling system similar to SmartSheet would be amazing
- Tasks could also improve. I'd like to see the ability to add sub-tasks or the ability to cc another person on tasks (think Trello)
- Google Doc integration would be AMAZING! While function point is a great place to store things, the lack of formatting and the the chance of losing all your work by going 'back' in a browser is limiting.

Overall we have enjoyed it, we are about to get our quickbooks integrated, so that will be nice - hope that it works great.

Pros

I like that it is easy to navigate and find things quickly. I like how the interface is branded and the some of the reporting is great.

Cons

I wish you had better options on estimate sending- like tracking to see if they opened the email and housing the email in the job that you sent for estimate approval. you see your email when you have to send an invoice, but should be the same on estimating. -- I wish you had a better setup for jobs/estimate on annual budgets - with trying to keep the team on their monthly hours and then having monthly jobs... it gets boggled down with that many jobs.... I wish we could see how other agencies of our size have their function point organized....

I've used FP for 10 years as we've grown from 1 to 12 employees. It's been a lifesaver for proposal writing, time sheet entry and monitoring. Great for consulting firms with a lot of project on the go.

Cons

A few of the reports that the system can generate need some work. Particularly the "Job Summary By Individual". It has a crazy predefined sort order that is not intuitive and doesn't follow Job # sequence! Why?! We use this report every month for invoicing prep. 10 years now and it drives us crazy. Please fix.

Cons

The UI is not good... it is hard to navigate - the scheduling piece is particularly tough - I think the system has so much potential but seems to be built from a developers perspective vs a user perspective. I would love to see a more robust and easier to use scheduling feature - and more clear navigation.

Cons

Creative collaboration is difficult. There is no running stream of communication that would easily allow someone to understand where the project started and how it has progressed. There are too many ways and places where files or information can be stored which creates a lot of challenges with communication and consistency.

I love the way projects are laid out in an easy, straight-forward manner. It makes logging time and charging the client properly very easy. I also like that it has a built-in timer function, as that's a great way to keep track of time and, again, charge accurately.

Cons

I get frustrated with it, but I also haven't given it a really fair shake in terms of sitting down and learning how to use it.

Pros

For inputting time, it's pretty simple to keep track of jobs.

Cons

It's not very intuitive and there seems to be a pretty huge learning curve to really get to the crunchy stuff. I spend a lot of time just clicking around, trying to find things. This, however, has as much to do with my limited training as anything else.

I'm not particularly good about keeping my timesheets current, but Function Point makes it a lot easier to keep on track.

Pros

I like that I can access it anywhere and on whatever device I happen to be using. I rely on the weekly timesheet for most of my time entry stuff. The TAB through interface makes it really simple.

Cons

My biggest complaint is that when you make a mistake or key something that needs clarification, a dialog box requiring an action comes up nowhere near where you're currently working on the page. And you have to click the OK button to close it. It won't accept the return key or tab key.

Say you're looking up a job. You type in a few letters, hit TAB and a list comes up. That list is at the bottom of the page and you have to mouse over your selection and click it in order to move on. Even if you don't see the job you're looking for in the list, you still have to mouse over and click OK.

It's a small thing, but compared to all the other software I use each day, this is a pretty clunky issue for me.

FP is a very versatile software program. From the ability to save templates of our most current jobs, to being able to pull reports to see which jobs are most profitable have been valuable to our business. THough it wasn't designed for a creative agency model, which means we also have to use other productivity software in conjunction with FP, it serves its function well.

Cons

It's not so much what I didn't like, it's what is not important to our business model. Things such as Tasks and Schedules aren't as easily accessible as something like Trello, and having the option to remove those tabs from the interface would be useful.

I work for a medium-sized creative agency that used to do everything on Basecamp but we grew out of it. FunctionPoint has been a real step up in our organization and processes.

Pros

It's a great way for all parts of the business to be on the same page, from finance to accounts to creative. Everyone can see the status of a project or client in one place, even though sometimes that place is hard to find.

Cons

I wish it were a little more obvious as to what some of the features are. Our agency has had to define SME on FP and it's always that person who makes the call as to what parts of it we're using and what we're not. For that reason, I feel like that there are probably useful things available that we're not taking full advantage of.

Overall it's nice to have once tool for many of our project tracking/accounting needs.

Pros

There are a lot of features that could be disparate apps but all come together nicely in one program. We mostly use for estimating, time tracking, invoicing and reporting. We don't use the brief or schedule features currently but would like to look at them again to see if they might be good for our team now that we've bene using FP for a few years.

Cons

It took us a while to set up in a way that made sense for our teams/how we work and to put some best practices into place. When we first started using FP, the Brief and Schedule features were clunky/didn't work for how we work so we haven't been able to utilize them. I also feel like some workflows are clunky and I find myself going back and forth to different views to complete tasks, but make it work!
