Future is here

BIM will certainly change the construction industry in ways we cannot fully appreciate yet. Revit is of the best solutions that are pushing this revolution forward.

PROS

- Game-changing and full-featured building BIM design software (Building Information Modeling) - Simplified the design process beyond belief from the days of AutoCAD - Quantity take-offs are now byproducts of the building model, not a separate business process. - With BIM (Not only Revit) the plans, sections and quantity take-offs are all dynamically related. Any change to one of them is immediately reflected on the others - Works well for Architectural, Structural, HVAC, and MEP modeling. - Easy to use yet very capable. - Seamless integration with other Autodesk solutions (NavisWorsk, Robot .. etc.) - Plenty of training resources online.

CONS

- The price is too steep for companies in developing countries especially since it uses an annual subscription for each user.

Reasons for switching to Revit

I still use AutoCAD for sketching but for anything new which matters, Revit is the way forward. BIM is the way forward and after using Revit for 5 minutes anyone would realize that.

Revit is great!

Good and bad. Good in that after two weeks of using Revit I did NOT want to use AutoCAD ever again. Bad in that getting our users to make the switch has taken time and resources. Figure on about 1-2 years to fully move from AutoCAD to Revit. The move is worth it, though.

PROS

The term "One source of truth" describes Revit well. You can produce hundreds of drawings from one 3D model. Change any drawing or the model and every drawing reflects that change. In AutoCAD, you would have to open up several drawings to make those changes. Revit, you change something in one place and you're done. Likewise we love the database Revit is. You can include any amount of information in your model that you want and present that information in schedules.

CONS

Moving from AutoCAD to Revit can be difficult and frustrating for many people. Revit is a very complex software and takes a while to learn but it is well worth the pain. Some of the best benefits like changing something in one spot can also be a curse because it may have unintended consequences in other views, but that's just something you get used to and learn to resolve.

Reasons for switching to Revit

The world is moving from CAD to BIM just as it moved from paper drafting to CAD 30 years ago. If you want to remain competitive, you need to move to BIM and Revit is the current leader in BIM.

Hard to use electrically

Overall Revit is a great program that is an essential tool in the MEP industry. Any time I start a new project I hope that the arch is using Revit over autocad

PROS

Overall revit has alot of good features for integrating engineering systems with a project. having families link between arch/mech/plbg/fp/elec models and have parameters that interact with each other helps to maintain consistent coordination.

CONS

Electrically revit seems to lag behind quite a bit. Lighting design is still quite difficult to implement in a model. Quite frequently electrically you have to work against revit to get the proper info to show up which can be frustrating. i hope new systems to help display lighting controls are implemented.

Revit the best yet the worst!

Overaly, its a good software. its just too bulky, and too difficult to learn, and the UI is too old school. other than that , it does deliver

PROS

Revit provides a platform were different diciplines in contruction can work together simultaneously i.e an architect and an enigineer dont need to change softwares to wokr on rhe same project , everything all of then need is in the software . 2. Revit is morden, and provides all necesary tools for a morden architect, engineer or designer. 3. Of all BIM software , revit has the most support from different partners. it has the largest stick of assets on the market

CONS

1. its too bulky. 2. It has the stepest learning curve 3. the user interface is a mess, it still resembles ancient softwares like autocard. Archicad is more morden and easy to use compared to revit 4. the controls in the software are quite a work around

Become a self taught Architect!

I have used Revit for 3+ years and I have loved it. I have designed and built many projects in it. I have built many .rvt files using AutoCAD and then imported it into Revit to build a detailed model. Then I have used the same model for energy analysis using add ons. You can perform life cycle cost analysis, lighting analysis, solar analysis and energy analysis using Revit. all you need to know is the science behind using the technique.

PROS

Revit is one of the most versatile building design and modeling software. It can literally design any kind of building infrastructure with the same precision as an architect does. Revit is the foundational software for Building Information Modelling. It provides us features like parametric modeling and smart object import. It basically reduces all the repetitive drafting work in building design. It provides features and a basis for Performance analysis.

CONS

When it comes to creating a complex geometrical model or any model with lots of curves, Revit handling becomes difficult. Using Revit for complex shape modeling is difficult. Revit does not support high end, performance analysis tools. lt has its own add ons which do not give accurate and precise results. You need to export the model to any other software and perform the energy analysis.

Reason for choosing Revit

Parametric Modelling capacity, Performace analysis capability, ease of access, BIM platform

Insightful design software

Considering the compatibility with other Autodesk applications and helpful features such as 2D and 3D drawing, BIM modeling, presentation tools this is a great application to use. But it comes with a larger price tag. Can be used for many purposes and currently, this is the industry standard for designing. Designing complex structures will be harder but considering advantages and disadvantages this is a good application to use.

PROS

Another great solution from Autodesk. In Revit, we have the ability to draw, design, and model structures depending on our needs. With tools to draw in 2D and easily model it into 3D, Revit is the solution architectures and civil engineers have been looking for. And especially with modeling and presentation tools Revit is the whole package. This package can be effectively used for architectural, structural, HVAC, and MEP modeling. And with enhanced support from other Autodesk applications, Revit seems like the industry-standard design software.

CONS

The main disadvantage is the higher price value for Revit. So middle and startup companies have to think twice before purchasing Revit. Also somewhat harder to create complex models. And for a beginner, this would be harder to learn and use.

Reasons for switching to Revit

Revit had more users therefore tutorials and increased support. Also, Revit faster and more user friendly.

Forever Revit

This was the most fun, it was very enjoyable and I remember asking myself why I didn't just trust my inner hunch and learn how to use this software earlier on in my life? Oh well... better late than never right...lol.

PROS

Right away I saw that this tool was more purpose-based than all the other tools I've used before which were more broad-based, so I was really happy with that. Another thing I noticed was that Revit mimics real life building elements in a smart, geometric way, it does automatic calculations and schedules plus it reduces the possibility of creating human errors. Multiple users can use the same file at the same time. This software is just simply GOLDEN!!

CONS

I did feel at first like I bit off way more than I could chew on but as the weeks progressed, I couldn't wait to dive in and learn something new about it because when it started to gradually make sense to me, there was no looking back after that. Revit was all I needed from then onwards.

Reason for choosing Revit

Revit was always the end-goal for me. I needed to familiarize myself with a more broad-based software that would teach me the jargon and technical requirements needed to use it with confidence.

Reasons for switching to Revit

I had become fluent in AutoCAD and needed a new challenge, this is why I made the switch and I'm so glad that I did.

Revit: The Pros and Cons of Using This Powerful BIM Software

Revit is a powerful tool for building design and construction, but its complexity and cost may make it less suitable for individual users or smaller firms. Its collaborative capabilities and advanced visualization tools can be particularly useful for larger, more complex projects.

PROS

Integrated design: Revit allows users to create a single, integrated model that incorporates all aspects of a building project, including the architectural, structural, and MEP (Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing) systems. This can help ensure that all elements of the project are coordinated and work together seamlessly.Collaborative: Revit enables teams to work together in real-time, making it easy to share and collaborate on project files.Robust visualization: Revit provides advanced visualization tools that allow users to create detailed, high-quality 3D models and renderings of their designs. This can be useful for both design and presentation purposes.

CONS

Steep learning curve: Revit can be difficult to learn, particularly for users who are new to BIM software or have no experience with 3D modeling.Expensive: Revit is a professional-grade software and can be quite expensive, particularly for individual users or small firms.Revit requires a powerful computer with a dedicated graphics card to run smoothly.

Start in the field of 3D modelling and projects of larger scale and complexity.

It's a great software, and it's one of the programs I've used and still use the most in architecture. It has everything you need for the realisation of a project and you just come to love it the more you learn and use it. If you get to use it enough you will start to feel that you don't need any other software to work with, but you should always keep in mind that there are complementary programs that will make the use of the program even easier and you shouldn't close yourself to the idea that it is bad to make use of them even if Revit can do it. In general it is a program that is constantly updated and really adapts to the evolution of architecture and the complexity of it; and it plans to continue to do so for many years to come.

PROS

Both its platform, as well as tools and the extensive work capacity that can be performed on it, as well as the comfort and ease of navigating a project from zero to the completion of final renders. From 2D plans to 3D modelling in all aspects, it is simply an amazing tool. As well as its extreme compatibility with other software not only from the Autodesk family, makes it one of the best programs for architecture and other areas.

CONS

Although it is "easy" to use, it can take you a lot of time to get used to it, it is one of the programmes that sometimes I still have to look for tutorials on how to use its tools even if I have been using it for all the years of my degree and part of my working life. Once you understand the basics it becomes common to say that it is "easy" to use, but it does take a great deal of time and patience not to get lost or make common mistakes that may or may not be fixable.

The only way to design complicated projects collaboratively

Overall it is an irreplaceable component of my daily job but can sometimes be a pain to figure out a workaround in order to model what I have designed in another program

PROS

The ability to link models through bim360 and work on a central model with a team, is revolutionary for our industry. Of course, being able to draw and model at the same time is also so important in delivering a project on time and being able to document changes after construction is also a must. I am always surprised when I meet people who are still working with cad but I suppose on a small project revit may not make sense.

CONS

The ability to design curves and angles, and model other complicated features, really needs to be vastly improved. Revit is cutting edge in so many ways but doesn’t lend itself to designing cutting edge designs. Things like a skylight or a monumental stair and railing should not be so difficult to model and draw when they are so easy to do so in a dozen other programs.

Large Learning Curve But Worth It

If you're an aspiring firm who's growing and taking on more than they have in the past, this is a great software to look into. Be warned, it will be a higher initial investment, since you will likely want to add-on premade template packages alongside taking time to learn the software. However, once everyone has had time to get acquainted and workflow is setup, this is an amazing tool that can have your productivity soring.

PROS

While being a smaller firm, we understand we could make do with software such as Sketchup since it's relatively cheaper and can absolutely get the job done. However, in our office's experience, the second you have more than 2 people in your office with more and more projects on your plate the more of a time and money sink it becomes having to keep track of coordinating all of your models. Revit, especially with BIM 360 cloud storage, is an amazing asset to have when it comes to collaboration and sheet creation. We also love to use Enscape with Revit to produce our marketing material.

CONS

There is absolutely a learning curve that goes into taking on this program. Not only will you need time to get accustomed to speaking Revit's language and recognize its quirks, but you'll likely want to invest into premade templates and families since the defaults available on Revit aren't quite at a presentation standard. (Also, there's an example of the the language thing I mentioned; families can be anything from doors, fixtures, casework, etc.) Beyond the initial setup, there's still aspects of the UI that aren't exactly intuitive, but there have been improvements made over the years but it's still far from perfect.

perfect for precision and reliability

if you are looking for precise and reliable conception of buildings, REVIT is great! this software packs every tools, that will help to draw building with all its architectural and technical details. this BIM software is great because it understand what you draw, it understands materials, elements, and many more. and this can help in estimating structure calculation, quantities, prices! understanding the materials will also let the software warn you in case of mistakes, like if 2 material intersects, or an element does not fit. that how revit is very reliable, and many mistakes can be avoided by using it. also every elements are customizable, witch will help the engineers to understand the drawings. REVIT lets you extract 2d plans from the 3d model, and those plan can be ready for execution if this software if used properly. so revit is not the most simple software, it is professional, and needs time to get used to, but it is very important, and for long term usage work can be done faster and better! many linked computers in one office will let them work on the same project during the same time, so coordination of architects, engineers, technical will be fast and easy. so for serious construction work, and mostly in huge project where so many elements have to be coordinated between each other, revit is essential! will avoid many mistakes, and is great for workflow.

PROS

this software is made for professional work -great for avoiding construction mistakes -coordination between many engeneers on the same model -not the most complicated software

Revit excels at creating both 2D and 3D designs, as well as modaling and beautiful perspective rende

This program is using by large, developed companies, and there is a strong market demand for it among construction companies. Because of my expertise of it, it brought me a lot of money and saved us time and effort. I counsel every pioneer in this subject to learn and used it.

PROS

The Autodesk Revit program is a 3D design tool that is vital to the collaboration between engineers with different structural, architectural, mechanical, electrical, and sanitary specialties. As a result, there is a high level of coordination in the work and fewer mistakes because of early project teamwork. It is one of the most significant applications of Building Information Modeling (BIM), where construction engineers can enter realistic properties of objects and simulate how they interact with one another before actually implementing them. It is a sophisticated way to create models from buildings and structures that are completely similar to reality. Best Architectural Software!

Overall, since we have been using Revit for our designs and drafting, we have been able to identify errors in our design using the clash detection abilities. Since designs are in drawn in both 3D and 2D, this has greatly increased our production time and most effectively present the actual 3D designs to our client at the same time. We have also been able share projects among other Professionals in the industry.

PROS

Revit is no doubt the best software out there in Terms of BIM (Building information Modeling)! No Architect should use anything less! With Revit one can build free forms easily, manage the building Information, and easily share projects. Its very easy to import other CAD files and manage them effectively. Another thing this software has been able to do is incorporate other Add-on tools like Enscape, Avail Browswer, e.t.c. for maximum efficiency. lest I forget, This software creates both the 2D and 3D simultaneously!

Best in Class Professional Architecture Design and Construction Software

I use Revit (Architecture) every day from schematic design through construction administration, for quick design exercises, client presentations, and of course construction documentation. It is the industry standard for producing clear and accurate documentations and can be customized to show any level of detail required.

PROS

Revit connects design and documentation seamlessly, allowing design changes to be reflected in construction documents as soon as they are modeled. Currently, it is the only software capable of efficiently 3D modeling with construction accuracy, while also allowing for CD level detailing without excessive 2D line drafting.

CONS

Because it is the best in class software, it comes with a hefty price tag. Some operations can be finicky and difficult to learn, but it is so widely used and frequently updated, that it's easy to find learn how to do anything you may need to do for a typical architectural project.
