Automated data analysis in research
As an ATLAS.ti user who uses the tool often in his professional work, and also in the academic field, I consider it to be one of the most valuable tools for data analysis. I have a high level of satisfaction with this software, with the support of the ATLAS.ti academy and its customer service department.
PROSBy way of context, I can mention that I am an experienced user of ATLAS.ti, with more than 10 years using the tool, and teaching and advising researchers from very different disciplines on how to perform data analysis with the support of software. This experience allows me to affirm that version 23 of ATLAS.ti represents one of the most important and innovative advances in software for qualitative data analysis. Before version 23, ATLAS.ti was the leading tool in data analysis due to its intuitive interface, the integration of different data formats in the same project, and the data visualization possibilities. Version 23 made an important leap in at least three aspects. First, the incorporation of automatic coding tools and preparation of data summaries using artificial intelligence. I consider that this is a substantial change in this version, and that it represents valuable support for the analyst. Second, interoperability between the different versions of ATLAS.ti (MAC, Windows, IOS, Android and Web) has improved significantly. The versions are now more similar, and the ease of sharing projects between different platforms has improved substantially. Third, we are at a time of prolific development of artificial intelligence tools and ATLAS.ti has put two into production this year, and it is highly likely that in the coming months we will see new developments, which will facilitate and enhance data analysis. Finally, I must mention that one of the things I like most about ATLAS.ti is the positive impression it generates on students and researchers who have never used data analysis software, and when they see a demonstration or listen to a class, they get excited due to the characteristics and robustness of ATLAS.ti, which motivates them to learn and use it in their own research. This is an impression that has been constant in my ten years as a research teacher.
CONSI think one of the aspects of improvement in ATLAS.ti is networking. Usually, when a code is networked with its citations, the citations cannot be seen completely. Adding this functionality as optional could allow you to explore the data in greater detail using networks. However, creating the networks and exporting them in graphic format is very simple.

Good access for Education Institution
The cloud version is the one of choice for initial users and has reasonable pricing. I mostly use that one. I'd recommend the local version for mid to advanced users. The speed of the work increases a lot with the AI functions, that is something you will be using with big amounts of data.
PROSPricing is good for educational first users and students get free trials and discounts. That's especially useful for students and teachers abroad, who end up paying from their pockets. The software is stable and work amazingly.
CONSThe learning curve is complex. I recommend watching the tutorials and using the learning options more than once. It's like other specialized software. It will take a while to get the most out of it, and it can turn expensive sometimes.

Desktop version is great, but stay away from the web version
Important product to perform literature research or qualitative analysis. Desktop version is good and helps especially with scientific work. Just do not use the web version, then you can be sure that you can work well on your project.
PROSFiles are easy to import and you also save time on literature searches because you only have to read books once and then you can easily search for statements within all books.
CONSWeb version works too slowly and errors occur when encoding PDF files. There are also problems when exporting projects, so that it is not even possible to continue working in the desktop version. Customer service definitely handles such cases too slowly.

Hello Adrian, thank you for sharing your feedback. I checked the communication between you and ATLAS.ti. After your first inquiry on Friday December 16th , I can see our user support team asked you to invite our technicians to your ATLAS.ti Web project the following workday on Monday, December 19th, but we didn't receive a confirmation from you until Friday, January 6th. That same day, our user support team immediately followed up with our technicians to confirm everything was received correctly, then the following workday Monday January 9th one of our senior technicians wrote you that he is working on it, and we received no further communications from you. Upon investigating (between January 9th and 12th), we saw that the huge PDF you used was "corrupt" and when it was technically translated so that it could be used in the Web version, it created errors because of the characters in your PDF. We then fixed these characters in the translated ATLAS.ti PDF and everything was resolved by Thursday, January 12th. As you can see, we were very responsive (at latest we responded the next day, but mostly during the very same day), and we fixed your problem, which occured because of the characteristics of the PDF that you uploaded, within 3 days which also is a very good time. If PDFs that have these kind of "corrupt" characters are uploaded in ATLAS.ti (or any other web-software) they create problems and this is not our fault and we do not have to solve that problem. Since we try to help every user we nevertheless have taken care of the problem and solved it. Your comments that the Web version creates errors, that the conversion to the Desktop version does not work, or that our support is too slow is just not true and millions of users have no problem with their projects in any way. Of course we know that people can get angry if they face such problems but this is not due to ATLAS.ti as described above. Our user support team is always available 24 hours a day, 5 days a week via live chat, telephone, and email. Please always feel free to reach out to them if you ever have more questions or comments. In the past year, our user support team has received 95% positive ratings from ATLAS.ti Web users, which suggests that ATLAS.ti Web has been successfully facilitating qualitative research and users have been largely satisfied with the support they've received from us. And last but not least, ATLAS.ti is the only software package in that field that offers FREE support 24/5 with not extra costs, with no extra maintenance to pay for etc. no matter if our users are students or researchers in a big company. Horrible experience
Have you ever had the horrible experience of buying a product that doesn't work and customer service just says sorry, there's nothing I can do for you? If you want to experience it, just buy a product from Atlas.ti. They work with the Cleverbridge organization. I bought the wrong product but immediately called them and canceled the subscription. After that I bought the right product but they did not activate it. It was surprising that the old purchase was still active and the second one was inactive. I contacted Atlas.ti for help. They told me that Cleverbridge should do that. I contacted Cleverbridge to solve the issue, they told me that Atlas.ti should do this because they make and sell their own products. So, they are responsible and Cleverbridge customer service told me that they are only responsible for the payment and nothing else. After calling them twice, he told me sorry I can't help you then hung up the phone....so rude customer service I have never seen in my life! Atlas.ti customer service told me sorry, we can't do anything for you. So, I thought I did pay for nothing and I have a subscription of almost 10 euros per month too! I felt like they passed the ball between them and no one wanted to take responsibility for the problem. Fortunately, after refreshing the website (after 100 times!) it works! However, I still do not recommend this software because if you have a problem you can hardly count on customer service! I feel very sorry for their managers!

Hello Farnaz, thank you for sharing your feedback. After getting a license, it just needs to be activated in your ATLAS.ti account page and then you can use it. I can see you contacted us through our live chat support on Friday, October 21st, because you purchased an ATLAS.ti Web-only license but you were trying to activate it in ATLAS.ti Desktop. You then received a refund for your Web-only license, and you purchased a Desktop+Web license on this same day, October 21st, and our student licenses team confirmed your student license was delivered to you on the same day, Friday October 21st. On Monday, October 24th, you wrote us saying you needed help activating your license, and our team wrote back to you 90 minutes later confirming you had successfully activated your ATLAS.ti Desktop+Web license. You wrote us back 45 minutes later saying you were having a problem activating your license, our team checked the license system, manually activated your license for you, then wrote you confirming everything was working correctly less than 5 hours after your last message. The problem occurred because you were still trying to activate your first ATLAS.ti Web-only license which you subsequently cancelled, but if you had tried activating your new ATLAS.ti Desktop+Web license, then it would have been activated immediately. Moreover, if you had emptied your cache, you would have seen all changes right away, as you mentioned you had to refresh the page many times, but this is simply a characteristic of specific web browswer clients and is not related to our Web version software. Moreover, the software has been running fine and we have not received any crash reports. As you can see, your statements are not true, and we did not create any problem. It was you who first bought the wrong software then entered it in the wrong place and then wrote harsh accusations about us although we were very well performing and did everything to correct your mistakes. Your rating is therefore unfair. I hope you have found ATLAS.ti helpful for your analysis since then, and we do appreciate your feedback because we place great importance on supporting all of our users around the world. Navigate through all academia stages with Atlas T.I.
My experience with Atlas T.I. has been excellent. I use the software every single day: as a student, professor and researcher.
PROSAtlas T.I. is a software that ease all type of academic work. Users can read, codify and analyze their course materials, develop literature reviews or conduct entire empirical or theoretical research. Atlas T.I. allows to work with different types of materials: documents, videos, images, news, media, social networks, etc. Furthermore, its analytical and visualization tools permit to arrive in relevant conclusions.
CONSI would like that Atlas would include tools like translations and transcriptions. This will make the workflow easier.

A great contribution to qualitative research
In general it is a tool that I have found very useful in qualitative research with large numbers of data and with research teams and networks developing analyses simultaneously.
PROSIt is a very useful tool when working with large amounts of data. It provides very good assistance for the systematization of analysis and collaborative work. It also provides useful outputs to continue with quantitative analysis, and visuals for the representation of the results.
CONSThere is still room for improvement in user friendliness, visualization and integration of AI tools. Also in maintaining a price range more suitable for non-commercial uses, e.g. educational and social research. In terms of data, further development of audiovisual data analysis would be interesting.

Excellent product for collaborative qualitative research
Our overall experience was excellent. ATLAS.ti was key in helping us to achieve a complex, multi-country research study with large amounts of qualitative data in a simple, straightforward, and efficient fashion. We were able to generate analyses and then present our findings at research conferences and in publications much more rapidly than might have been the case with other programs. The team at ATLAS.ti really puts a human face on the package and is always ready to help out and schedule tailored trainings to meet their customers' needs. This was really quite impressive to us.
PROSWorking with an international research consortium involving research teams across several Latin American countries, we found the ATLAS.ti team amazing in terms of offering us personalized virtual training sessions for our teams (this in addition to the online pre-recorded trainings they have, which are also very useful). We found the ATLAS.ti programs to be very user-friendly, intuitive, and easy to train and implement across very diverse teams, including our student assistants or interns. The functionalities of the program allowed us to productively and efficiently analyze mountains of qualitative interview data using shared coding categories and then, additionally, perform comparative analysis across country groups.
CONSThe filtered reports in XCL-type format were less useful than narrative or Word-like reports might have been.

Atlas for the win!
I am blown away by the AI Coding tool in ATLAS.ti. Even though ChatGPT has emerged so powerfully just a few months ago, ATLAS.ti is demonstrating one of the many useful applications of OpenAI’s algorithms by bringing this into qualitative data analysis. I was so excited when I saw this feature was released, and the results are really impressive!
PROSAI Coding inductively analyzes text, creating many new codes and showing co-occurrences between codes. I also really like that the AI Coding creates categories and sub-codes, because the categories give a very good bird’s-eye understanding of the data, and then the specific sub-codes help to understand each category in more detail.
CONSAI Coding can sometimes take long to analyze everything. I was surprised because the other AI tools in the software are really fast (like concept analysis), but AI Coding took 15 minutes to code my interviews. I hope the speed will continue to improve over time.

ATLAS.ti Web is easy to use and great for teamwork
My team would not have been able to make sense of our data if we couldn’t collaborate in real time in ATLAS.ti Web. I definitely recommend ATLAS.ti Web for teamwork. We coded our data using our own codes plus AI generated codes, we created reports, and we successfully completed our project, even while being located in different countries.
PROSIt was so much easier to complete our analysis without having to merge different files and resolve conflicts etc. I like that I can work on my projects from anywhere, that all my projects are saved online. The interface is also really easy to understand, so I don’t have to spend time learning how to use the program.
CONSATLAS.ti Web also needs code co-occurrence analysis tools. I saw this is available in ATLAS.ti Desktop, and it is a very useful tool to analyze coding patterns.

So intuitive for coding qualitative data!
I like how easy it is to code qualitative data in ATLAS.ti. The software covers everything you need: ability to organize all types of qualitative data, writes notes on your thinking and research process, intuitive coding features, and many approaches to retrieving and analyzing coded data.
PROSI find ATLAS.ti to offer the most intuitive approach to coding because I can use keyboard shortcuts, and all of the codes are easily accessible in a searchable list, and other times I like to just drag codes from the list on the left and drop them onto quotations.
CONSThere are not many color choices for codes. I like that codes can be organized into levels, groups, and colors, but I sometimes could use even more colors than those in the software.

Remarkable product for assistive tech
I can write notes, code, code reports and write research papers using ATLas in a way that is proving increasingly difficult to do by hand due to disabilities. I may still be learning how to use ATLas and how to use it in particular for my assistive needs but it means I can research independently.
PROSI needed this type of QDA software for assistive tech to be able to do the research I wanted to do. Of six or so software I tried, many were entirely inaccessible due to how they were constructed, were arranged in ways I did not understand or stripped PDFs of all content when OCRing so that I could not bring up a exact visual when checking a document source. Of these, only ATLAs extended a lengthy trial to me to see how I could use ATLAs as assistive tech and to build on its future assistive tech features. I’m grateful as this enables me to have the time to prep and load research into ATLas and still have time to learn the program.
CONSI would like to know how other people use the software to store documents without overwhelming the computer particularly since I plan to use it for multiple projects. Atlas support has been quite accommodating in trying to help with this and this con is not the fault of the product so much as it is what I’m doing to make the product work for me.

Excellent Graphics in ATLAS.ti
I have been using ATLAS.ti for the past 6 years and I really enjoyed it than any other qualitative analysis software I have ever used.
PROSATLAS.ti is a software with excellent graphic view which makes it possible to view major major issues in a set of data at a glance. Features such as Sankey diagram, networks, code tree, code forest etc. makes it possible to get a whole lot of information about a data set without necessarily read through the data. It also provides information on frequency of each item which gives reader an idea of prevalence or importance (number of times such issue was referred to in the data) certain items listed in those diagram in the data set. The software also allows one to change colour of codes which resulted in a beautiful and presentable diagram. These diagrams are easy to generate and manipulate to the form in which you want it presented. Using these diagrams had added professionalism to my qualitative reports and clients found it informative, illustrative and attractive.
CONSTalking about graphics in ATLAS.ti, what I don't really like, therefore, don't use is the bar chart because it tends to be too scattered by presenting document or document groups individually and it doesn't label the bars with the codes they represent neither is there colour kay to provide more clarification to the reader.

Efficient multi-user management system
I’m in charge of handling the software licenses our department uses, and one of the most important things for me is the ability to easily give software access to everyone who needs it and when they need it. I really like how easy the ATLAS.ti multi-user management is, because I can add and remove people as needed and they can install the software on whichever computer they want (other software we use limit the installations per device or link licences with specific devices which was always an obstacle when we had people leaving and joining different teams).
PROSIt’s really easy to add and remove license users, each person can install the software on their Windows or Mac, on their office and personal computers, and they can access their projects across their different computers.
CONSThe annual subscription is a bit of a pain in our department because we have to submit a bundle of paperwork each time the subscription needs to be renewed. I’d love to not have to do this every year.

i’ve done my qualitative research using this software and it helped me a lot with the data analysis. it worth the money especially if you’re a student and get this software through a student discount.
PROSthis software enables the users to easily codes and analyze qualitative datas, such as interview transcripts and documents. the interface is user-friendly and it offers student discount at an affordable price compared to its competitors. the free trial version also doesn’t have time-limit, instead, it limits the document and codes but you can keep the free trial as long as you like.
CONSthe cloud version is not as responsive as the pc/mac version, it also would be better if the pc/mac version has an option to save the project to cloud.

A Powerful Tool for Creative Data Analysis
It is really effective. Powerful. Productive. Proficient. I am really grateful that such an efficient tool was created. If not for this tool, I don't know what I would do! My applied linguistics and corpus-based research became great and influential thanks to a great variety of qualitative and quantitative analytical data tools which I can use right now!
PROSThis thing is an amazing, powerful, intellectual tool for efficient, effective and consistent work on your research data. If you want to work proactively and make a smart analysis of some data, dig out the key ideas, valuable intentions, precious details, Atlas.ti will save your time and efforts. With this tool you can methodically draw out, order and reorder and code some significant pieces of precious data in order to define the key patterns, tendencies, dependencies and co-dependencies and verify your hypotheses. It has lots of useful functions which will help you export your results and present them to people who are interested in your ideas. For working on your qualitative analysis in this program you can use various types of data: video and mp3 files, texts, pdfs, pictures, Google Earth data, almost any type of data which you can extract, code and verify. The only disadvantage of this program is that for analyzing some large amounts of data you will need to buy some kind of premium access.
CONSI am not sure if this tool can effectively work on Linux, such as Ubuntu and Debian, which is a great limitation for this amazing software.

Great customer service, great program
My favorite part is the very dedicated customer service and tech support. When I had trouble with the University lisence, I was quickly on the phone with an expert who was very helpful and really made an effort helping me through the problem.
PROSAtlas.ti is an easy program to use for qualitative data analysis. It's quick to learn and makes it easy to process and manage material consisting of a large number of documents. My material consists of 2000+ documents, and Atlas.ti has made it possible to manage it.
CONSSome of the commands are not very intuitive, so it took a while to find where everyting is. It was still very possible though.

My favourite tool for analysing videos and transcripts
ATLAS.ti has been the best for me because of its transcription syncing. I work with many focus group videos and transcriptions, and being able to work with both the text of the transcript and the corresponding clips from the video recording is essential to fully grasping my data. I have been able to generate rich findings with the help of ATLAS.ti.
PROSInstant synchronisation between videos and transcripts, easy managing of timestamps, being able to move through a video/transcript just by clicking on timestamps, coding of both transcript text and video segments, saving snapshots of video frames and coding them, automatic focus group coding
CONSThere is no automatic transcription so I use a different program to generate my transcripts and then I work with the transcripts and videos in ATLAS.ti

Make your literature reading easier
ATLAS.ti have the features to analyze, find sentiment, concept and opinion in organizing a code. We also can find the input by reading the article ourselves but the management (code, document, memos, networks) really helps us understand what we read before.

PROSMy favorite aspect of ATLAS.ti is its flexibility of use across a range of research designs.
CONSThe in-app reading function can be improved. More often than not I prefered openning a file on Adobe Reader rather than using the reading function on ATLAS.ti. It feels bulky and not very user friendly.

The focus group coding is very interesting and helps in having very nice analysis and graphs also
CONSI recently want to make a connection between a code and it sub but couldn't until I detach them from been sub-code. It will be nice if it can remain sub-code and still have linkage line between them.

ATLAS.ti is compatible on both Windows and Mac
I have really enjoyed using ATLAS.ti, at my university I use Windows but at home I use Mac, and I have not had any problem using these two platforms, the compatibility between these two platforms is 100% so I have had no conflicts migrating my project.
PROSNo matter if I work on two different computers or if my colleagues have different platforms, this is not a problem, I could always share my project.
CONSAt first I thought that my ATLAS.ti Desktop projects would be saved on ATLAS.ti Web but it wasn't, then I asked support if I could synchronize it automatically and they explained that my ATLAS.ti Desktop projects are saved on my computer. This more than anything, to protect the confidentiality of my data, something that seems very appropriate to me, I had very sensitive data, which at first I did not think about confidentiality, although they assured me that the projects that are stored in the cloud have a very advanced security, I always prefer to have my projects only with me.
