Top Notch Financial Aggregator
Excellent and responsive company. Very strong app and desktop platform .
PROSFormer Mint user who switched over to Buxfer about 20 months ago. Love it. Best personal financial app out there and trust me I spent a long time doing my homework on all the different options out there. It keeps me on top of all my accounts. Has saved me money more than once.
CONSAccount synching is not always working properly...Have to update a lot
Reasons for switching to Buxfer
Wanted a more through and robust financial app.

Best Personal Finance Software
I don't use all of the functions of this software (IOU's and whatnot) but it gives a "control enthusiast" like me a choice of whether or not to sync my accounts. I like manually entering my cash flow and transactions day-to-day so I can balance it with my spreadsheet and track my spending carefully.
PROSI can sync with all of my investments, including the values of my rental properties and primary residence. But I don't like syncing my bank and credit cards, so I have the choice to enter the details manually. I love that I can do that!
CONSThis is most certainly personal finance software and wouldn't be appropriate for any sort of business expense tracking, in my opinion. (I'm an accountant.) If this is your goal, there are probably other options.
Reason for choosing Buxfer
I like to be in control and enter transactions manually, yet have my investments sync up so I can keep an eye on them.
Reasons for switching to Buxfer
There is no Quicken online! I tried to make QuickBooks online work for my personal finance but it doesn't mesh and is too expensive. I hated Mint.

Avoid using this app
horrible
PROSThe only reason i continue to use the app is that Buxfer can sync transactions automatically from my bank (i am in Germany)
CONS- the interface is very inconvenient. obviously the people who make the app don't use it - There are bugs (e.g. recently the app created a new account automatically and started synchronising new transactions there. now I have to transfer transactions manually apparently) - the lack of support. when i started using the app i created tickets for bugs and suggestions for improvements. after 4 or 5 reports i got zero replies and stopped trying to solve these problems. Translated with [SENSITIVE CONTENT]/Translator (free version)
Reasons for switching to Buxfer
previous service could not export transactions from my bank account

Fantastic software with slight areas for improvement
Overall Buxfer has been a complete game changer for me. I have used competing software for years, starting with Mint, which I quickly abandoned due to lack of a paid (ad free) option and the lack of full control over categories (you aren't able to create new top-level categories and you aren't able to delete existing default categories for some reason). I then have used Pocketsmith for years and years as it allowed great customization. Nothing comes close to buxfer's clean interface, with the full account lists and tag lists down a column on the left and simple, fast navigation, as well as features more akin to higher level professional accounting software such as the ability to enter a projected bill payment or a payment made that may not be reflected on your statement yet, allowing for quick forecasting of balances and overall financial standing.
PROSI love the flexibility of this software. It allows me to modify and create a seemingly infinite amount of tags so I can organize all aspects of my financial life in a manner that facilitates historical insight for me. E.g. if you have multiple properties, you can separate expenses related to each property instead of sticking to generic templates. Additionally, while there are options out there that offer this feature, none seem to make it as quick and easy to create categories (called Tags in Buxfer) or edit them, add, remove, etc. Buxfer also has a built in "refund" transaction type, indicative of buxfer's understanding of real world financial transactoins, instead of categorizing a refund generically as "income" as most other options do. Additionally, the financial forecasting is dead-simple when compared to others. A clean, simple, visual chart showing forecasted balances is all what is needed. Something so simple that only Buxfer seems to have grasped so well. They have an IOU feature which I understand to be very useful however I have not used it yet.
CONSWhile for the most part buxfer seems to have nailed transaction splits (where one purchase is split into multiple categories, e.g. at a hardware store you bought some tools for a project but also some light bulbs for your home and you want to track separately), there are a few bugs here and there to work through. Additionaly, when entering reminders, I would love for there to be a feature to remove reminders after the date for them has passed. Buxfer is good at transaction matching however it isn't perfect.
Reasons for switching to Buxfer
Too many limitations on all other software. Buxfer's founder seems to be the only one who actually gets it. Almost no limitations. Multiple currencies, support for bank sync for nearly every single banking platform out there, projected payments displayed in a super simple manner, unlimited customization of tags, sub-tags, sub-sub tags, it's really just so flexible when compared to anything else out there that I have used.

CONSSupport takes too long to fix sync issues
Reason for choosing Buxfer

Reasons for switching to Buxfer
Xero did not allow manual accounts
