With Gimp I am creating weekly flyers with products from our company. We can save an enormous amount of money by doing this by ourselves and not some external design company.

Gimp is an open-source image manipulation program what means it is absolutely free to use. Also, you will receive regular updates which add new features and fixes bugs including security issues. It has all the abilities that for example Adobe Photoshop and other commercial programs have. It can offer even more because it is easily extensible and flexible for every environment with lots of great community plugins and scripts.

The user interface of Gimp is not the most beautiful one but its function is very good. It has a lot of menus and submenus so for beginners it may be a little harder to achieve some more complex operations such as retouch of a face or double exposure. Also, compatibility with Adobe file formats exists but don't except that it works perfectly. Most of the time it works flawlessly if you are opening the document from older versions of Photoshop because newer version needs some updating and updates occur approximately every 2 months which is still faster than what Adobe is doing with their Photoshop.

I've been using GIMP for all my image editing and sometimes even for creating artwork for about a decade now. I never really looked for alternatives because, while it might not be the go-to choice for professional graphic designers, it's everything I need as a wannabe writer and creative. I've designed my own book covers, crafted banners and ads for my social media marketing, and even illustrated my own children's book, which I later turned into an ebook and an audiobook. What I love most about it is how user-friendly it is while offering advanced features similar to other professional software – all for free. It's like child's play to use, and that's why I stick with it.

Honestly, it all began with "Because it's free!" Who wouldn't want the same cool features as those fancy, pricey image editors? But once I started messing around with it and realized how user-friendly GIMP is, I couldn't imagine switching to more professional tools.

Yeah, the tool's support might be a bit lacking, but the awesome thing is that it's made up for by the collective knowledge base of a whole community.

Overall If you want to get started in image manipulation or photo editing start with GIMP. everything you learn in GIMP will translate without issue to the "professional" software systems.

I've used Photoshop for over 20 years, and I still use it now, but anytime I get a request for software recommendations, my first suggestion is GIMP.

The toolbars and context menus are sometimes unorganized, but that may be a preference issue.

In a world where something like photoshop costs a fortune this is perfect for the editing we need to do to manage our business website.

I love this software overall. It's easy to install and run with multiple processes at one time it doesn't cause issues like I have had with others in the past. You do not have to have a high-end pc or macbook pro to get started with GIMP.

This is an amazing tool compared to the others on the market. This ran with ease on my PC and didn't cause me any issues. They send out updates and offer tons of documentation. The software is great for beginners or professionals. It runs on macOS and Windows while not requiring too many specs. HIGHLY recommend

I had a tough time at first in my switch from Adobe Photoshop as the various tools and such were using different names and icons, but luckily there were plenty of resources online to use for people switching from Photoshop to GIMP. I wish the support provided by GIMP was easier to follow but like I said there are plenty of resources on the internet to help especially YouTube that provides plenty of tutorials from users

Gimp is a resource with endless possibilities. As an artist I use this program to create textures for character models both in cartoon and realistic styles. This software has been a godsend to my art. No more making ten versions of something and then extracting outlines by hand, using hundreds of dollars in expensive colored pencils to adjust an unwanted color scheme, wasting all that time and damaging nerves for what is not a quick selection away.

Quick tools for removing unwanted colors from images for monochrome printing. It's a huge time and money saver in the tattoo industry. I can pull a full color image and have a basic outline stripped in less than two minutes.

Text on a path. The bane of my existence is the massive effort it takes to print text on a simple curve in GIMP. It's the ONLY thing I dislike about it.

As is the case with a lot of free software, some features feel less polished than their commercial counterparts. I have been using GIMP for a few years now. Earlier on, my experience with this software was not quite right. As a graphic designer, you will be able to seamlessly crop images, make colour adjustments, customises brushes and adjust gradients among others editing. Here are some of the advantages of using Gimp over other image editing software. 1.It has incredible, and quality features making it the best among open -source programs 2.Single-window mode operation which is great for single pc operation. 3.GIMP is 100% free. 4.It supports plenty of image formats such as GIF and PDF. Additionally, GIMP is customizable such that you can add and remove menus or icons on the fly. 5.It is easily extensible to ease image manipulation with the third party. 6.Last but not least, GIMP works efficiently on all major operating systems. Whether you choose Linux or windows, results are always impeccable.

the script-fu is not user-friendly. GIMP lacks intuition on new users and can make their experience pretty cumbersome. Some filters and effects don't explain or guide how the image should be modified. It would be awesome if it would support PSD photoshop images. It does not open some files such a JPEG.

It is perfect for me. Photoshop is very costly for me. Usually for my game development I use inkscape but for altering the output image , now I use gimp and experience is fine enough. I will surely recommend it to others

The best part which I love about it is that it is open source software. It gives a very good satisfaction and gives a way for other also to improve it. The other best part which I love about it is its price(FREE) . This removes the barrier for many newbies. Other than that the features which I really appreciate about it is frequent update cycles,huge community and options of adding plugins and scripts ( many users donate it for free for other users)

1.) UI in my opinion is quite old fashioned. 2.) It takes more clicks to achieve the same goal as compared to other rivals like Photoshop 3.) It's compatibility with other software is not so smooth ( this experience may differ from user to user) 4.) It had been quite a time since it was released but still it has failed to make an impact on commercial space ( take the example of blender:- it has acquired attention of many big players in the market) 5.) Performance ( bigger files):- I have noticed that photoshop is much more better in managing bigger project as compared to gimp (not a huge difference but still)

Overall, GIMP is a cost-effective photo editing tool that shares many of the same features and functions of Photoshop and other editing programs. We've enjoyed every minute of using this open-source program, which has allowed us to remove an expense from our computer budget!

Gimp does not have all of the features that Photoshop does, but is pretty close, and the fact that it is free you can't complain. The software is however open source, so you can make changes to it, and a quick google, and you can normally find a way or a tutorial to achieve what you wanted. The overall and best thing about this software is that it is free. This is a great alternative to Adobe Photoshop, and will not disappoint you. The fact that this software is free does not mean that it is lacking in features. Gimp has many ways in which you can retouch your images, has amazing tools for cropping, colour adjustment, noise reduction, gradients, customizable brushes and many other tools that you can use. If you are looking for more advanced features, Gimp also covers this with layer masks, filters, bezier curves and even has an animation package. The customizable brushes are a must for any artist, and adding them is so simple. This makes Graphic Design and artwork very easy to achieve the look and feel that you want.

Occasionally, and I mean very occasionally, Gimp software might have a little glitch. This does not seem to effect my work though, and I haven't lost any, but may result in a action box remaining on the screen after it has finished doing it's thing. This is not really a problem though as I just place my window that I am working on, over the top of it, and it is no longer visible. As a digital marketer, I’m using GIMP as an alternative to Photoshop to cover my daily Social Media purposes. Although it is a nice Photoshop alternative that copies almost all of its tools, it is obvious that the user interface has a way weaker design, but for an open-source free software, it offers a decent solution. GIMP is suitable for daily micro-tasks such as resizing, blurring, cropping, layers management, rotating, scaling, and background erasing. More complex tasks such as object selection, cloning, shrinking/growing area, etc. may need more effort. Judging by my overall experience these are the (+) and (-). Pros - Easy installation - Open-source/free software - Includes almost all the essential Photoshop tools Cons - Outdated UI - Some tools (shrink, selection) are way more complex and time-consuming - Sometimes the exported result is not of the requested quality(maybe that depends on the user’s skills level) - Absence of Shapes tool which is helpful in Photoshop My comments are about version GIMP 2.10.32. Well, obviously, it's open source! That means it's going to cost you nothing. Even if you compare it to other popular paid software around there, Gimp is not going to let you down. All the basic and mid-range functionalities are available and user friendly as you're probably used to. If I want to mention a specific thing that I love from GIMP, it's that you can Ctrl+Z when you mistakenly add a point with the lasso selection, and also you can combine polygonal selection with free-hand selection. Small details like these make of GIMP a great option at no cost. I started using it professionally after formatting my pc. I've done a lot of photography edits for customers (wedding, birthdays, etc.) and for websites (online stores) and I have never encountered a situation when I had to go back to the software I used to have. Also, every update brings new original features. The creators are not trying to be a copy of another paid software,they are trying to create a very unique tool that stands out by itself.

Slow evolution during its opensource nature: 7 years happened from 2.8 to 2.10, but Gimp 3 is estimated to be out at some point of 2018 so this might be changing due to the success of the last update. Shortcuts: moving to Gimp can take a couple of days of adaptation if you're used to work with other software because the commands are completely different, but as I said, it's just a couple of days. Also, it can get tricky if you want to automatize some parts of the edition. It can be done if you follow the right steps but I think they need to improve that part and make it more user friendly.

I've use this as a layering program mostly. You can edit images to higher quality and even splice images together very quickly. This is a great program for any level of artist.

It's powerful rendering abilities and it being free to the user makes this program great for anyone learning or wanting to expand their editing knowledge.
