Best Volunteer Management System for Government Agencies

We were able to start a citywide volunteer program in large part thanks to Offero. It's enterprise wide functionality allows for standardization of practices, yet enough customization for each unique volunteer program. They have made continuous improvements and updates to the software based on user feedback.

PROS

Offero is easy to use for both administrators and volunteers. It has a variety of features for volunteers to enter hours. It also has tiered levels of permissions for participants, different types of volunteers, and administrators. It's enterprise-wide functionality is the best I have seen in a volunteer management system.

CONS

That more people don't use it! I think as it grows it would be exciting to have a user group of government driven volunteer programs that can connect and share best practices.

Offero is an elegant solution for our software needs

Offero has given us the perfect solution to our software needs.

PROS

Offero is such a welcome change from other software programs out there -- it's well planned for incorporating new features in the future and serves our immediate needs better than any other software we tried. We have 29 different volunteer positions in a lot of locations and each team has a different coordinator with different needs. Needles to say, our needs are complicated. But Offero offers an elegant solution with options to grow our program and and the chance for input into new features. It's the perfect software for our needs.

CONS

There are a few features that we don't use (Adopt-A for example) because we don't have the specific program they were created for and we would benefit from a "user's guide" to help us find ways to incorporate them. While they have drastically improved customization options, I would like to see more options for report customizations in future releases.

Reason for choosing Offero

One thing Offero offers that puts them head and shoulders above other options is the ability to speak with real people behind the software -- for technical support, product improvement suggestions, and problem solving.

Reasons for switching to Offero

We wanted a software that fulfilled more than just basic functions related to volunteer management.

PROS

I like how user friendly it is. Everything is visually accessible and once you are familiar with the site it get easier and easier to use.

CONS

How in depth some of the features are. It is hard to get from one point to another on the page if you are unfamiliar with the website.

More volunteer are using Offero than with our previous volunteer software. I deal with less problems with this software, giving me more time for other aspects of my job.

PROS

Simple program, yet fulfills all needs. Reports are a breeze

CONS

At first it was like learning a new language, but as I used it more the transition became easier

Reasons for switching to Offero

Volgistics was too clunky. The support was only online and made it hard to communicate problems. Volgistics was limited and as a end user we were unable to suggest changes or ask for new features. Running reports was hard and time consuming.

Major upgrade for managing volunteer programs

We are a large, complex, statewide state government agency that engages thousands of volunteers each year. Offero helps us manage our volunteers, who are key to achieving our mission. Feedback from staff and volunteers is mostly positive, confirming that this software helps save time and make our volunteer programs more effective.

PROS

Offero is modern, robust, and visually appealing for volunteers, staff, and program participants. This was a major upgrade for us, and some of the tools that have been most beneficial or have the most potential for our organization include: activities, shifts, emailing within the system, courses, awards, tags, and being able to require waivers. We are also looking forward to better utilizing features like custom volunteer applications, feedback requests, and adopters. The staff at Offero are also passionate and dedicated to understanding your organization and ensuring your experience is positive.

CONS

Because Offero has so many features and functionality, especially compared to our previous software, it has been a big learning curve for staff and volunteers to understand and use the system. Some terminology was also a bit challenging for us to get used to (such as Volunteer Groups and List Management). I would like to be able to search for volunteers by geography more easily, and am interested in more robust options for managing partner organizations.

Reasons for switching to Offero

Partly because our previous contract had expired, and partly because we needed a more robust, modern, and easy to use software to manage 4,000-6,000 volunteers each year.
