After using it to understand where my time was going throughout my day I was able to better build my calendar for the new year. This let me begin moving forward in freelance contracting while also allowing my clients to better understand where their money is going.

At every corner this app succeeds. With a fair pricing model and a supportive and quick to respond developer it has set the standard for the other apps I use. Design wise Timing is extremely clean, while giving you a fantastic amount of information to look at and use while not being excessive. My time with Timing has been nothing but a joy to use and has paid for itself ten fold.

I wish there was an API for adding functionality from other apps, or your own, I feel it would really improve how Timing works in the long run. Otherwise, no real complaints.

Overall I love how invisible Timing is. It doesn't require that I start or stop it, or even give it a task name. I can take a good look at my efficiency and how much time I'm devoting to each project.

The best part of this software is that it runs in the background, using your active window to determine the activity you're working on. It is very granular and gives a very in-depth look into how your time is _actually_ spent. From there, they make it easy to "group" time blocks into tasks, which is convenient when the window path isn't enough to identify the project/activity you're working on.

I do find it takes a good amount of time to set up the automation rules necessary to get the most value out of the product. I also must dedicate 20-30 min a week to review my time, group into tasks, and ensure things are accurate.

I find I am able to bill more accurately and am not guessing on how I spent my time if I forgot to start a clock. I love that it is my safety blanket, and it keeps me focused when I look at how I spend time.

I do a daily review of how I spent my time not only for billing purposes but also to see how I can continue to focus on productivity. I love the ability to create custom rules based on file names/patterns, paths, urls, and more so you don't even have to think about starting and stopping a clock. And it works/syncs on both of my computers so it doesn't matter if I am on my iMac or MBP. It really is a modern way to track time!

Every time I have a wish list item I send it in to the team and everything that was possible they've basically included in a release.

The main problem that Timing solves for me is the fact that it makes my Context Switching easier to record with less worries about who I book which portion of my day to.

I like the fact that I am able to cary on with my day as normal and then at the end of the Day or even the end of the Week, go back and review all my actions. This way I can context switch between customers and helping colleagues without loosing track of where I spent my time. This makes filling my time sheets after a busy week so much easier. I am recommending this app to anyone that have multiple projects and activities during the same day or week.

I have not found anything I dislike about this app yet, and have been using it for more than 8 months now.

It automatically tracks your time without manual intervention. You don't have to tell it when you're using a program or when to stop. You can associate a program/folder/keywords with a project and it will automatically assign the time to the project. If you need to, you can also assign a period of time as a task to a project overriding any individual program's assignment. It also includes sync between multiple computers now.

It takes a while to onboard with setting up projects and customizing the automatic assignments. Then, much like any workflow/process, you need to adjust your personal habits to get the benefit of having Timing track your application usage.

Accurately records time either pro-actively or reactively with full details on application context. Timing is a must-have application for anyone who needs to reflect or record time accurately and makes it a breeze to not miss a beat.

Writing daily report or reports per projects goes from couple of hours to couple of seconds.

Automatic tracking of software usage that you can later easily put in report shape. Perfect tool for freelancers that will make day work easier. It is enough that once you create rule for specific app, file or folder, then application will automatically record hours for project or task. Nice thing is that you can create rules for un-productive things (example: social networks) so you can see how much daily minutes (maybe hours :)) you waste in time of work.

Software have some missing features, but in support conversation, plenty of them will be implemented in future versions.

This software saves me so much time and hassle. I'm a freelancer and I use this app everyday. The developer is actively working to continually improve it and it shows. I love mac, and this app is 100% Mac. Very simple and intuitive while providing complex options for time organization.

Timing automates the time tracking process is an easy to use way. It's easy to just track tasks and record what I spend my time on with this tool. As a result, I've saved a lot more time using this compared to other types of time tracking tools.

The calendar integration by Timing is kind of weak and hard to use. It would be awesome to compare how much time I planned on a task vs the actual amount of time I spent on a task.

I am a graduate student in humanities, and usually work at home—since my time management is flexible, avoiding procrastination has been a great challenge for me. This app makes me realize how much unnecessary time for online shopping, etc. is spent(e.g. www.amazon.com for 2.7 hours), and be aware of it. To get the most of the app, such as the overall productivity score, this app requires pretty much initial personal settings such as adjusting the productivity rating and putting the keywords for each categories, and this personal setting is the core of making the statistical data meaningful. I'm happy to see the data accumulating for the statistics (for the whole week, month, or year) but still need a lot of personal (fine-tuned) adjustments to get a meaningful (categorized) data, and this does take some effort and time.

I've used bunch of apps that track my activity on my Mac, but this app will be my last one. Timing specifies the time that I spent on each file & document & web address, so that I can figure out what kind of things I actually worked on. This app helps me to recognize the discrepancy between my suppositions on the time spent and the actual time that I spent in each app or files. Also the auto-categorization (once I drag the specific apps & keywords & files to a category) makes the daily use of the app effortless.

I can hardly find any cons for the functionality of the app, but this powerful functionality might create a trade-off to the intuitiveness and sleek design of the app. While the developers do provide kind and detailed manual to use the app, at first the interface didn't seem intuitive, so I took some time to get used to the interface. (maybe an initial instruction screen for categorizing will help the newbies!) Also the color labels doesn't look harmonious when appeared in the statistics... I hope there is an option for custom color—just the only complaint for now!

At the end of every day, I'm able to look through my Timing records and update my company's internal time tracking system with the appropriate tasks. Because I'm a busy team leader, I get called to so many questions, tasks, and meetings that I struggle to keep track of everything I did during the day. This tool is the solution to that problem, allowing me to see all the programs I was using and remember where my time went throughout the day so I can update the appropriate customer accounts. It even asks you what you were doing when you return to your computer, allowing you to quickly log that last meeting, etc.

I have tried many of these kinds of "background" time tracking programs and none of them have gotten it right like Timing does. I live that Timing provides a timeline of what you were doing at any given time. Many other programs track that information, but they don't provide a clean and easy-to-use interface so you can see that. I'm also thrilled that Timing has AppleScript support so I can export my data in the format I need.

Sometimes if I step away from my desk for a few minutes and come back, the "what were you doing" notification is a bit annoying, but it's a minor disturbance compared to the value provided by the software.

The most important feature of timing is that during the work day there is no manual effort needed. You just open the app and it tracks the time spent in each program in the background. It has some preset rules for categorising different apps. During the review of the time there is some manual effort required to categorise the unassigned applications. This is really easy and can be done with Drag and Drop. The visualisation of the data is great. The overview page gives a nice glance over the most important statistics. If you need to go deeper there are more sophisticated reporting tools. I use the app mostly to track personal and university projects. I tend to procrastinate a lot and the app helps me uncover it so I know how much time I have lost. The Overview is especially useful for this.

The User-Interface looks great but the User-Experience could be better. You have to get used to the different pages and have to search for specific functions. After you have learned the application it is easy to use but it takes some time.

Automatic time tracking is the best thing you can do to improve your productivity. And timing does it really great and easy for both non-technical and technical people.

Timing app does it extremely easy to setup and get insights about which apps, documents or websites takes your precious time. Time spent in particular apps is automatically assigned to several pre-defined categories, but of course you can also create your own. The "onboarding" is really easy. App is ready to use just after installation. Also, events from calendar can be shown on the Timeline, which is really helpful for time-to-tasks assignment.

I don't see any cons about the software. It works smooth and without impacting computer performance.

I get hard data on how I use my time on my Mac. We tend to exaggerate how much time we spend on things. Having Timing automatically track everything without uploading it anywhere is great.

I really like that Timing automatically tracks everything I do on my Mac. It's great not to have to think about starting and stopping timers. The Review section is probably my favorite feature. It quickly allows me to sort tracked time into self created projects and folders. I can get as granular and nerdy as I want or keep it simple. I create projects in Timing that correlate to my projects in Omnifocus so I know how much time I'm spending on things. I really like the way the developer added Tags and Paths. They allow me see my data in ways other than just by application or by website. Seriously it's an amazing app. The overview section's wealth of data is also great.

The app on first open can be kind of overwhelming. After my first day of use, I went and looked at the data and didn't know what I was looking at. There is a learning curve, but it isn't that steep. The developer has some great videos that explained everything I needed to know. I think he has done a great job at making a large amount of data look as simple as possible, but it still can be a bit overwhelming it you're new.

I like that makes time-tracking easy, painless, and automatic. With pretty much every other time tracker I used, I had to automatically input my hours. This was annoying, and I often forgot to log things! Timing takes all of the pain out of time-tracking while delivering detailed reports not only of *how* you spent your time, but also how productive you were (based off your own productivity 'scores' for various types of tasks). It's customizable while being totally painless. I use it everyday to monitor my productivity and task completion, and I've recommended it to others.

I wish that it synced easily with my other Mac---ideally, it would also sync with iPhone! Though I realize that this is extremely difficult to pull off and hasn't affected my desire to use it! It's by far the best tracking app I've found (and I've spent *a lot* of time looking!)

Timing is great! I've used many different time tracking software over the past 10 years and Timing is the easiest to use. I love that it is constantly running in the background. As a freelance, work from home type, it is super helpful to know when I was working on what and for how long. I also love the productivity meter.

I wish you were able to see more than one day at a time in the Task Manager. I think that it would be helpful to see up to a week.

Timing is effortless. It runs in the background, monitoring what you are doing and classifying where your time is spent (according to default rules or the ones you tweak yourself). It can classify your work according to project, keywords, or application -- helping you to analyze the situation from different perspectives.

The rule editor could be improved a little bit. For example, there exist some default categories like "Reading & Writing Applications." Presently, there is no way to edit the group directly to specify which applications to include or exclude. (You may, of course, add any application by hand to any rule that you're creating. But if you want to create a group of applications that you can use in multiple rules, you can't do that right now.)

The review screen makes it easy to track your time. It's easy to add default rules, after a few days almost all time at your mac will be automatically tracked. Adding time away from your computer such as meetings etc. is quick and effective. I also like that you can get a productivity score as a motivator for the day, or as a summery of a week. The design is pretty and makes the "boring" task of time tracking enjoyable.

There are two main cons against the software. The main problem is that theres is no sync between mac, I use a work and personal computer and sadly theres no way to sync these two. There is no iPad app, which would have bin nice.

It’s changed my workflow in a really positive way - being able to retrospectively see exactly what you are working on over the course of a busy day has been amazing, and made timesheets more accurate and simple.

I have to keep timesheets at work, and it is a nightmare trying to keep tabs on which of 20 clients I spend my time on- agency life means you can be flicking from one to the other every ten minutes. Timing automated the tracking brilliantly, and means I can review easily what time has been spent on what. It’s been a proper game changer for me - and I highly recommend it.

There’s something of a learning curve to begin with, but it’s worth the effort.

Great customer support. Whenever I have a question or request they've been fast to respond. For a while I ran both Timing and RescueTime side by side, but have since switched to just Timing.

Private (doesn't send your data to the cloud) Can customize how you want to categorize your time and it has lots of options to do so.

It's not super intuitive to customize the categories and can be intimidating at first, but once you read how to do it, it's easy.

Time savings from not stopping and starting work, money savings through more accurate time accounting.

Working as a freelancer for multiple clients, I often have to determine how long I spent working on projects for each one. Since buying Timing a few weeks ago, this has become so much easier. Before, I would have to remember to stop and interrupt my workflow to determine what I worked on, for how long, and for which client - then write it down. Now, if I forget, I can keep working and review my work at the end of the day, seeing what I was doing in each app and working it out from there. I see that there are "rules" that can do this automatically; I haven't got around to this yet but it seems to make it even easier in theory!

The software is quite pricey - although it has paid for itself in the time I have saved. I would like a mobile assistant so I can input things like meetings off-site.

The detail at which it automatically captures what I do on my computers makes it possible for me to track my time and work — something I have tried to do but have quickly and repeatedly failed at in the past. I’ve used different logging and tracking systems but this is the only one that has allowed me to be successful (so far — about 1 month in). I’m growing into it. I’m learning as I go. I’m probably using about half the features available to me.

I wish there was an iPhone and iPad app for it...!

The daily review allows me to tweak any task assignments in under a minute. Combine that with the auto assignment rules and I have an almost invisible, but accurate time tracking tool that just works.

I solved the problem of where my time was going with Timing. I definitely did not have an accurate picture of what I was spending my time on before I started using this tool. This is a great product and I am happy to support it!

I really enjoy how simple it is to use Timing once it is configured. It provides great insight into how I manage my time when working on my various projects.

The software is a little fiddly when configuring it but if you can get past that the automatic tracking is unparalleled.
