Parallax has changed our agency!

PROS

What I love is that it integrates our data so seamlessly between HubSpot and Harvest. It's a tool that removed quite a bit of manual work across spreadsheets to make our resourcing and forecasting far more powerful and reliable.

CONS

There's nothing that I dislike about Parallax, there are the usual feature requests with any platform you have where you say, "oh if this just did this" but, they are really amazing at receiving feedback from their users and asking questions and evolving the platform as they grow which is awesome to see!

Reason for choosing Parallax

It integrated so seamlessly with existing platforms we had and we believe in what [sensitive content hidden] are creating and growing!

An indispensable tool for Operations

Learning curve was steep and onboarding effort was high but the outcome has been worth it. We've realized real gains in utilization (and subsequently revenue), it's given the operations team peace of mind that we've got enough people to do the work (even in the pipeline) and it's given leadership insight that we've never had.

PROS

Parallax provides insight into past, present and FUTURE utilization, revenue, and project risk that we've never had before. We make better decisions and are more informed than we've ever been as an organization in those areas.

CONS

It is a complex tool that the extremely-well-versed PX team has built to address most of the nuances of agency resourcing and billing. As a result the - the effort (both rote and complex) to get projects and employees set up is substantial the larger the agency (we're 70 people and about as many ongoing projects) - the learning curve to set it up RIGHT is steep, so there will inevitably be some trial and error to get it set up to work best with your organization. Short version, it was 10 months after kickoff before I got complete data out that I trusted.

Reason for choosing Parallax

It came down to doing things the way we had been, which was better than nothing but not a step forward, or completely changing out our broader infrastructure (ticketing, task management, time tracking) for a more all-in-one tool. Ultimately PX's approach of "keep using the tools you like and PX will fill the gap better than an All in one" won out.

Reasons for switching to Parallax

PX promised a robust tool that would give us 500% more data and insight for only 50% more effort.

A great idea

The Parallax team is really nice, and I'm rooting for them! I think that in order to be more useful, we could use better communication around release notes (or some expectations about when/what type of communication we can expect). Sometimes I crack it open and there are new features that I find myself needing to learn on the fly. Cool to have new features (and mostly I really can figure them out) but some closing of those loops would be helpful.

PROS

I'd say that what Parallax is trying to tackle is nothing short of heroic. In the studio/agency space, we're all trying to figure out what capacity we're operating at, and how to ensure teams are resourced, happy, motivated – and that our projects are making money. Parallax tries to take all of this on and provide smart reporting. The promise of all of this was definitely what drew our team to this software. I've also personally enjoyed being involved in the product testing/roadmapping process. I feel like a lot of the suggestions my team has made along the way have been implemented or considered.

CONS

Parallax is still starting out. So over the months there have been a lot of growing pains that we've needed to contend with – mostly in the form of workarounds. This has made things like reporting still need to happen – for us anyway – outside of the tool. My other issue with Parallax is how much it relies on getting everyone's allocation exactly right to be truly useful. This is nearly impossible to manage with the normal ups and downs of business, and when you figure in non-billable time like vacations, internal projects, and sick time things get squirrelly quick.

Parallax enables us to manage our present and plan for our future

Parallax has been an invaluable tool as we've scaled our software consulting business and team to over 65 employees. As Head of Delivery, I use Parallax on a daily basis to review project assignments, evaluate staffing decisions, and analyze capacity & utilization. The product team at Parallax is very engaged with their users and we have seen many new and useful features added to the product after the past year. Early on in our usage of the product we focused on making sure our data in Parallax was a 'source of truth' for the business but now, with the new tools and reports available, we are able to be more proactive in capacity planning and hiring.

PROS

What makes Parallax so powerful is the breadth and depth of views and reports that are available to you as a user. I can easily view projects and people in parallel or quickly pivot to dive into a single project. There are also reports for digging into utilization, capacity, and hiring forecasts that enable many different ways to slice the data. Parallax does a great job of enabling filtering and searching through many dimensions on all pages and reports so that it can handle the high variety of use cases that are involved with project and staffing management.

CONS

There is a learning curve to the terminology used in the various reports and dashboards. As someone who was new to many of the concepts, I had to frequently remind myself how to interpret the results of a report and which fields were the most relevant to my query. Because the reports and dashboards aren't entirely intuitive to a new user, this has also been a challenge to scaling use of the product across our organization. That said, once we gained some in-house experts on the software, it became much easier to train people and drive adoption.

Reasons for switching to Parallax

Forecast had useful tools for tracking project assignments but it didn't serve our needs for capacity analysis, pipeline projects, and hiring forecasts. Parallax is a great 'source of truth' and is highly configurable to our required use cases.

Powerhouse PSA Tool

Our problem was that we had lots of different softwares that gave us information that could useful, but no way to congregate the data into one place that could synthesize it and help us make decisions. Previously we used a spreadsheet to track our team's allocation and Parallax's resource allocation has been a game changer. We now are able to see who needs work or is overworked and what projects are coming down the pipeline very easily to make sure we remain well staffed and our team is allocated properly.

PROS

The features in Parallax that are the most impactful were how the product seamless integrates all of our systems into a viewpoint that allows us to leverage that data to make decisions. It allowed us to use our sales pipeline, current active projects, and staff to plan and forecast efficiently. We also really enjoyed working with the team at Parallax. They were consistent, knowledgeable and incredibly easy to work with.

CONS

Integration with Parallax was very seamless. One thing that we would like to see is the ability to add notes or comments on items throughout Parallax. Sometimes it is helpful to add quick comments or notes to projects or the sales pipeline to keep track of things that were discussed in and out of meetings.

Reason for choosing Parallax

Pricing and the connection with the Parallax team. We did not find the same commitment to our success or the level of responsiveness from other teams.

Reasons for switching to Parallax

We chose Parallax because of their team. It felt like they were invested in our success and we really enjoyed working with them. The product also gave us everything that we needed and more to grow and succeed.
