User friendly utility billing software.

When I started here 9 years ago, there was a different utility billing program that was not user friendly and I was very glad to switch to one that was easier to use. Since I use it daily, the ease of use was a welcomed change.

PROS

The customer service is great. When we need help with something, it's taken care of that day and they know that our issue is an emergency so they try their best to get it cleared up fast.

CONS

Sometimes the reports are as clear as we would like them to be. But when we call customer support and tell them what we are looking for, they help us create a report that tells our auditors what they need to know in a report custom created for our utility.

Reasons for switching to Banyon Utility Billing

It was very hard to use efficiently. The prior clerk was old school and change was not something she welcomed. There was a lot of manually entered data and she wasn't willing to learn new tricks. Banyon is so much easier to use!

City of Hot Springs Utility Billing Review

The overall experience with Utility Billing is good.

PROS

Banyon Utility Billing allows for an efficient way of billing and tracking of customer's accounts and usage. It is very easy to transfer and work between the Fund Accounting and Point of Sale Programs

CONS

The delay in some of the processes and getting an execution run time error message and then being booted out of the program. I would like to see a change made so that when bills are being calculated the Point of Sale Program could still be in use by others in the office.

Good software, but slow

Great for Medium-sized Utility Business

PROS

My main goal in choosing software was that it NOT be in the cloud. Our service is locally based and has all the functionality we require.

CONS

Being in Microsoft Access, there are some quirks and sporadic issues, but for the most part it's a good software.

Reason for choosing Banyon Utility Billing

#1 - cost. #2 - database is kept local. #3 - it covered all our needs without giving us a lot of things we don't need; plus all the modules we needed integrated with each other.

Reasons for switching to Banyon Utility Billing

It was getting too complicated for our needs and way too expensive - and cloud-based.

Comprehensive software - great for our city

I typically do not like programs written in Access so for me to give such a product a good review, it must be a superior product. Banyon Utility Billing is just that. Every program has its glitches and wish lists, but this program is very stable and reliable. I only have about 250 utility bills to send out each month but I can complete the task in about an hour. We use postcard bills so that time includes tearing the cards apart. I have complete customer information at my fingertips when someone makes an inquiry. Receipt entry is quick and easy. If one customer pays for more than one account with one check, I discovered that if you have a common name associated with each account, you can choose all of the accounts at once and apply the check payment to them all together. The biggest con in receipt entry is if you have a customer that has moved, the current account is not the default top line. You have to move the mouse and select the current account, which is the bottom line. That is fine for mouse users, but for old keyboard people like me, it is annoying. We offer direct payments to our customers. Banyon was very helpful in getting this set up. We had a few trial and error runs, but that was because our bank was new at handling ACH files. The system performs great and our customers love it! We are just starting to use budget billing. It seems to have a few quirks. I don't like that you cannot assess a penalty to a budget billing account, so we only allow budget billing if the customer signs up for direct payments. I would like to see the bill history available on a tab on the customer screen like the trans tab. Still it is easy to access with a right click menu. There is so much more to utility billing that I haven't played with yet. It is a powerful and comprehensive program. Banyon is continually improving the product too. It is very well supported and I would highly recommend it.

Pickstown Review

Good. Most of the support crew is great to work with.

PROS

Came from a job that didn't have a billing software this was an improvement.

CONS

Sometime the changes seem confusing as to why they are done, but maybe there are reasons that we are not aware of.

Easy to Use

Overall it has been great. The receipts transfer easily to fund accounting. There are so many things in the program that I learn each time I call support. I would like the option to attend training, even if it is a refresher.

PROS

It is easy to learn and easy to use. The reports are understandable. Customer support is great.

CONS

Adding meter information. I don't know enough about the other end of the system to know why or what I am entering.

Utility Billing

Learning the software is not overwhelming because the customer service is so good. Banyon takes the stress out of this part of the job because I know I can always call and get help right away.

PROS

The software is pretty user friendly. The customer service is excellent!

CONS

Some reports are hard to find, but customer service is a huge help.

Reid Village Water District review on BDS

It is very user friendly. But when I cannot figure something out, I always rely on the wonderful customer service. Most all my experiences were successfull in the end. A small con with customer service was that sometimes I get someone who can only speak "above my understanding" .

Banyon Data System Products

For about 15 years I have been using Banyon software in my employment with a municipality. I have trained multiple people on how to use the software with little effort because the software products are so user friendly and easy to pick up on. Thank you Banyon!
