Planning Center by Ministry Centered Technologies is a suite of cloud-based applications that are used to support team leaders and members in planning, scheduling and managing church programs and events. The solution’s “Services” module supports tools to keep media organized. Users can upload and tag media and files to locate the right song or video for your service, then schedule and stay in contact with team members overseeing or participating in that service.

Planning Center provides a “Resources” module that allows leaders to reserve rooms and publish event calendars to manage church resources. The events, rooms and resources have their own calendar feed that syncs with calendar programs, including Outlook, iCal and Google Calendar, to remove scheduling conflicts. Calendar feeds can also be set up to display on kiosks, so church members can see upcoming events displayed on tablets, touchscreens and televisions in common areas.

Planning Center offers multiple packages and price levels to fit faith-based organizations of different sizes.

Great for planning services and uploading and sharing documents!

I'm the music director at my church and we have been using this for about a year now, it's been a huge time saver for me! In the past, I had to make sure I had everyone's email address and/or phone number to get the music and charts for each week.

Pros

Planning Center is really easy to use! I assisted the pastor of my church in setting it up and it could not have been easier. It really has been helpful in keeping a flow to our services. It is really great how you can upload documents and share with anyone who has a login. We have a pretty large size band, this feature insures everyone is always in the loop when it comes to the music being performed each Sunday morning!

Cons

I haven't run into any issues yet with Planning Center! I do wish there were a few more features, like having child check in or even a chat/message feature.

Pros

I love using it for scheduling my teams on a Sunday morning, and it has built in reminders! So helpful!

Great for Complex Church Scheduling of Volunteers and Church Service

Pros

The church that I attend has recently implemented the Planning Center software and it has been amazing. I like the functionality of emailing the volunteers their scheduled assignments and sending out reminders. It also allows the schedulers to see the availability of various volunteer's schedules so that people aren't accidently getting double booked (which has happened on several occasions in the past). It also allows the volunteers to decline in advance an assignment if there is a conflict (scheduled vacation, etc.) so that the assignment can be filled by another way in advance and alleviate last minute problems.

Cons

I only have had a short exposure to the program as it has been only implemented earlier this year, but I do not see any cons associated with it. It has been a "life-saver" in terms of scheduling church volunteers and not accidently overextending them. I would highly recommend Planning Center.

Excellent Suite of Products

Pros

We are still discovering new apps within the suite. We like that it is flexible and robust. It is easy to use and new users train quickly. The integration of the apps is clean. Great job!

Cons

It can be challenging to determine costs as you create your personal bundle. It's not a big deal, it just means you have to pay close attention and evaluate cost vs benefit carefully. Sometimes, response times are sluggish. It would be great to have some type of notification to help be sure we haven't missed a step. For example, once a plan is complete, a note saying, "Don't forget to email participants." It's good to have reminders when a lot of tasks are going on.

Planning Center Review

Pros

I love simple yet organized the layout of Planning Center is. I use it throughout the week, and some of my coworkers use it daily. It is a great way to see the layout of our services, with every detail included, from production, to lights, to music, to just about every aspect that we are planning through. It is a great tool to use with our team, and I would highly recommend it.

Cons

Planning Center does take some getting used to. Navigating through some specific features can be a little tricky, but the more you use it, the easier it gets.

It allows me to keep track of which services I am volunteering, and which team I am volunteering with. It's helpful to see the full flow of a service and see who else is volunteering

A strong suite with a little too much monopoly

Quality way of maintaining a database of church members that integrates well into scheduling them to serve, checking in their kids, or having them sign up for events or small groups. Nothing else quite like it out there in the market right now!

Pros

I love that it has a variety of different tools that are not only practical but have swiftly become necessary to running ministries in the church. I can't imagine using another software for scheduling teams, checking in kids, or organizing our small groups. This truly is a robust central point for our database management at our church, and it's in a whole other category than any other church management software because of its significantly lower price point.

Cons

Perhaps it's because of the price point, but where Planning Center fails in its ability to stay innovative and continually becoming more intuitive in its design and structure. I can't tell you how many times, even after years of use, I have spent dozens of minutes trying to find a certain feature or settings option that still evaded my insight for where it should go. Also, despite regular suggestions for updates to make the software stronger, I rarely see them innovating. If they didn't hold such a strong monopoly, I would not be surprised to see them ousted by a more aggressively advancing competitor.

Worship Team on the Same Page

Pros

I love that it creates seamless communication and ease of emailing the team when needed. I also love that it is translatable to a tablet for Sunday morning use - no more mountains of printed music used for an hour.

Cons

There are some issues with the number of users you can sign with in one area. We have issues sometimes getting everyone logged in when using the tablets on Sunday morning. Sometimes we have to wipe the tablet and reload the Planning Center app to get them in and we just dont have that kind of time. It's great when it works - but can derail us when it doesnt because we rely on it so much.

I love Planning Center!

Pros

Everything! Planning Center is the best software Ive ever used for helping organize church services! We use it every week and Ive used it for almost the past decade exclusively! It has great ways of contacting the teams and keeping everyone on the same page and prepared for the weekend services!

Cons

The only thing Ive ever not loved about Planning Center is planning center resources and that is only because it was a little confusing at first and didn't seem to have a logical system of reserving rooms

Small Beginning

In looking through the Planning Center our church is small and will use this program as it becomes larger.

This program is so helpful!

Pros

I love that you can add people to see the same events across the company; plus you can share songs, media, services, etc. It's really helpful that there's so much flexibility and versatility to make each service your own with item headlines, notes, adding media/songs, times and the length of each item. It's just very helpful & easy to use!

Cons

Maybe it was just because I was more picky about how the layout of services, but the template aspect was a little confusing/ hard to use. If you upload that template you're stuck with it. Also when I search for someone it was tricky sometimes because if you didn't have the right box checked it wouldn't work.

The software is easy to use. The menu is sectioned off in categories such as "check in" or people. It has the potential to do a lot!

Worship Leader Use

Pros

The best thing about planning center is being able to schedule teams for worship sets and put up songs via the app. You can email everyone directly with any specific info or updates. The app is handy and simple.

Cons

The hardest thing about planning center (and it’s not even that hard) is uploading songs. If it’s not in the database/doesn’t have a CCLI number it can be frustrating. Sometimes the formats don’t line up when you are inserting chords over the lyrics.

Leaps and Bounds beyond Good

I've used Planning Center for almost 5 years, and during that time, I've gone from scheduled volunteer, to admin, and then to one who has to input everything and everyone one. It is so terribly easy to navigate and use that it's almost funny. Why everyone doesn't use this software is beyond me!

Pros

It has everything you could every want from a production, technical, and administrative perspective. Need files on hand? Got it. Want to hear how something will go? Boom, music files. Need to know how often volunteers want to even be there? Covered. It's almost seamless - that's how good it is!

Cons

You can't force people to respond? Honestly, there are so little cons that they don't even truly register.

Helpful for planning services

Used it for church - small group teams, worship teams, set up and tear down volunteer crews, etc.

Pros

Planning center is most useful for planning services that include songs, charts, speaking times, etc. and delegating roles.

Cons

It is difficult to estimate the number of users required ahead of time, so the pay structure is a bit bothersome and when various users (team leaders with edit rights) tried to add new people, they received a message that they'd have to upgrade the number of users. It would be great if there were more email notifications for when a group is close to thresholds, or someway the account administrator could pre-approve increasing the number of people in the system, so when we need to level-up, a team lead could do this rather than having their service planning be interrupted.

The Quintessential Church Event Organization Software

We use Planning Center at my church for all the music planning, and it a powerful tool for communication, especially for Sunday worship services. It has also allowed our band to stay in constant communication and share important information in a simple format so everyone stays on the same page by listening to and looking at the same thing.

Pros

It's a great centralized location for communication, planning, scheduling, and sharing. For music teams, it has some great resources for sharing sets, songs, and music sheets, and allows easy communication to everyone participating in the event.

Cons

For administrators, there is a LOT to learn. What should seem like an easy process takes multiple steps, and it's easy to make a mistake or forget the specific area of the application you went to last time to complete a task.

Fantastic Software

Pros

Planning Center has become a game changer in our worship planning! It has made it very easy to keep everyone on the team in the loop when worship is being planned or something has changed. It also helps in scheduling volunteers and knowing who can't volunteer by the block out option. Highly recommended to any church!

Cons

This software has very little issues in getting new users up to speed. It does not take long to train a new person.
