In my opinion, McCormick operates like training wheels for someone who does not know how to build formulas or organize data in Excel and Word. If you try to move too quickly, the system simply cannot keep up and drops out. • Delayed Response: There is a noticeable lag and delayed response in keystrokes, which completely breaks your workflow when entering data. • Lack of Continuity: The program frequently loses continuity between the Digital Estimating Pad (DEP) and the main system. • Random System Behavior: You have to constantly babysit the interface and keep a close eye on checked boxes, as the software performs random actions unrelated to what you are doing. Database & Search Nightmare • Messy Assembly List: The prebuilt assembly list is a chaotic, disorganized mess. It has clearly been populated by multiple different people over time, each using their own individual naming conventions, spelling variations, and categorization logic. • Inconsistent Navigation: As you branch down into different subcategories, the search terms completely reverse. • Broken Search Logic: The built-in search mechanism relies on failed logic. It is ultimately impossible to quickly find the specific products you need. In most cases, it is faster to just create a brand-new item from scratch rather than hunting for an existing one. There are nearly unlimited assemblies available that make estimating smoother and more efficient. We previously used another program, and switching to this one has cut our bidding time by two-thirds while significantly improving our accuracy. Love the Design Estimating Pro, no more drawings!. Easy to create your own assemblies. Customer service is top notch. Any issue we have had over the years is dealt with quickly. #### Cons Only 2 complaints. In DEP the auto search bogs down occasionally and will crash the program. Happens probably once every week or 2. The Change Order Module is not usable for me. It's a must have item in your estimating tool box. It fits right next to Auto CAD. McCormick saves time with the assemblies that are available, and that means savings right from the beginning. I have also created assemblies for Security projects as well in the past at a smaller business with ease. I based on our experience and what McCormick program is capable of, I feel our company under utilizes all the features the McCormick System has to offer and a more advanced database training sessions would be beneficial. The extension reports can be customized and several options are available to meet your specific needs for your company and or customers that require supporting document of costs for budgets, bid proposal or change orders. The same customization of the bid summary reports are available to meet your needs. The database is easy update and customize for your standard company templates or templates can be set up for specific type of projects. Another positive is the ease to create items and assemblies for use on a specific project estimate and these newly created items and assemblies can be copied and pasted into the permanent database template. The customer support provided by McCormick is excellent, they always respond in a timely manner and the customer service tech's are always helpful. The customer service tech's provide good insights on the program and helpful options to help enhance the use of the program to get the maximum benefit of creating estimates and creating cost summaries that meet our companies needs. #### Cons The DPE system can be slow and lag behind the speed in which the work can be produced. You have to be careful when using the DPE program that the take-off drops for branch raceways does not stay constant, you have to be vigilant and check and or establish the drop footage when you change drawings or take-off labels. The auto count feature does not work and is not reliable. The counts are not accurate enough to trust, and the time it takes to verify the auto count quantities could have used to just perform the count manually. #### Vendor response Thank you for the detailed review, John! Using McCormick has made life so easy in figuring jobs from start to finish. From creating labels, assemblies, and pushing it out in extensions and summaries, I couldn't be more happy with where this program has taken our company. I would highly recommend if you are looking for an easy on screen estimating program McCormick with the DEP screen is unbelievably easy to navigate and work through. #### Cons The only thing I have had trouble with is an occasional crash, but it isn't detrimental as all work done prior to the crash is never lost. After recently aquiring this software for our Company, I couldn't feel more confident with our decision. As with most people, our choice came down to either Accubid or McCormick. Both are great programs but we decided to go with McCormick because it is cheaper and does essentially everything Accubid does. Further we were told that McCormick support is exceptional and so far that has held true. They are extremely fast at helping us, (almost instant) and we have had zero issues that they haven't been able to solve for us in minutes. Since the setup and learning curve of McCormick and Accubid are initially pretty large, we believe that the help and support we are getting from McCormick at no extra cost is exceptional. They truly care about our needs and help us achieve a smooth transition. PS. Whereas you need 3 separate licences and programs with Accubid to get the complete experience. -Cheaper by quite a bit than Accubid if you consider the additional programs you must purchase. (McCormick has built in change order management) -Easy 5 step Bid process with easy to use On screen take off built in. -Free upgrades for the first year and significant discounts thereafter. #### Cons -Operates on a 32-bit system which is outdated so may have difficulty installing on 64 bit system if you are not tech savvy. Easily solved with McCormick support though. -Database is not as extensive as Accubid, but we have to modify assemblies anyway to suit our needs so this wasn't a big concern. -Lack of refine feature in Auto-count which Accubid has. (This allows for refined search to weed out unwanted fixtures faster.) We found McCormicks and worked very closely with the reps(great guy, full of knowledge), and quickly realized just how inconvenient our current bidding software was! With multiple take off windows, direct take offs and auto counts from drawings, bidding is now a breeze. Once I received the product we were pretty much off and running and if we did have a question McCormick's tech support walked me through my issue step by step. With the addition of OSE Pro take off is a breeze. Since integrating this software into our everyday operations we have been landing job after job. #### Cons If I could change one thing about the software it would be a minor one, it would be better descriptions of the items and assemblies.
