human machine interface design software

PROS

This allows import of images for construction of animations for the design of the interface, is user friendly, allows different protocols of industrial communications

CONS

This is too expensive, the acquisition of the software is allowed by the purchase of this and not by the purchase of equipment. Training is expensive should integrate the system

FactoryTalk Suite

I have had good luck with the software and with all the documentation. I have had spotty luck with the support team. More times than not they can get to the source of the problem right away, but occassionally you seem to get someone who appears to have not had much real life use of the products.

PROS

I appreciate that the FactoryTalk suite can integrate data from the plant floor to a high level manager. I can easily gather data via FactoryTalk Linx and push it to my displays in FactoryTalk View SE, my historian in FactoryTalk Historian SE, and even to reports via VantagePoint. The HMI is easy to use and I like how everything integrates more or less seamlessly.

CONS

The View SE displays can use some higher quality (vector based) graphics. The graphics engine is a little old and needs some reworking. Also, some basic integration of database calls and tabular data in the HMI is missing without the engineer doing quite a bit of work or relying on third party active-x controls.

FactoryTalk VantagePoint is powerful access to industrial data

Fast access to all manufacturing data across the entire company

PROS

The key to FactoryTalk VantagePoint is to treat all data as time series "tag" data when setting up connectors. Being able to quickly grab any tag across the entire company and drop it on a trend chart or bring it into Excel is very powerful. The application can connect to all major industrial historians as well as any SQL or Oracle database. This gives you access to just about any data available.

CONS

The best features of the product are not well exposed and are not as user friendly. For example, the ability to finesse a data set within the Excel Add-in is called Post-SQL processing, hidden deep within the wizard, and requires knowledge of SQL as well as undocumented syntax to refer to columns.

The best tool set in the automation market compared to all the automation brands

Complete control of your productive plant.

PROS

This is a complete sotware set of tools for implement the automation projects and manage the operations, process and business of the company. Works perfect and give you the best benefits if you integrate this software with the hardware of the same brand. The cost compared to others companies is very competitive.

CONS

The initial configuration of the software is not as intuitive and easy as you can desire, because depends to much of specific configurations of Windows OS.

FactoryTalk

Working as an operator in a manufacturing plant, our systems interface is done using FactoryTalk software and overall it has been a very positive experience.

PROS

The end user interface is limited only by the programmer’s capability and skill set.

CONS

As the end user, the weaknesses of the interface can be magnified by the programmer and their knowledge of the factory or processes being controlled.

I use FactoryTalk to create displays for our manufacturing machines used by operators and managers.

PROS

Works well with other Rockwell products, machine controllers and drivers. It works better than their competitor products.

CONS

Some portions are more complex than they should be such as the setup and configuration. I have to configure multiple parts for it to work properly, such as the communication, human machine interface, and server setup.

It's a great family of tools for automation industry.

Experience

PROS

With this family of tools you can do whatever you want in automation. They have HMI software, Asset Control software, Historian Software and a lot more.

CONS

You need a license for everything you want. So once you have a software and need to upgrade you need to pay more and more

My experience with these applications have been one of the best stages of my life. Easy, fast and ma

PROS

What I like about these applications is that they are easy to use, they are very robust, they have redundancy and they are guaranteed in all their products. One of the best brands in applications of industrial automation are those of rockwell automation.

CONS

There really is nothing to complain about products. The only thing is that it is very expensive but expensive things should be better in all their appearance.

Experience is across many people

Keeping our system on Factory talk helps with having a cohesive network.

PROS

Factory Talk keeps everything under one roof. It's helpful to have training, PLC programs, VFD programs, and panelviews under one bracket. If you're already familiar with programming, this will be a good program to know especially if working in the US.

CONS

Support personnel from Rockwell on a few accounts could not answer technical questions. Including questions about equipment that has been running for 20+ years. They will call someone else or edit it how they normally do it instead of trying to help understand what your business or company needs.

Amazing, just remember that a Dot "." or a coma "," may save or kill you Migration, be very careful on each Component, PLC, CPU and network adapters VERSIONS.

PROS

It has many different sub categories, like HMI programming, PLC troubleshooting, Networks diagnostics and setup. My expertise comes to the HMI developing, with i might say its very gratifying to program on Factorytalk View M.E.

CONS

it takes a while to get to know all the perks.

It's so good the enviroment and the interface. Quite clear how to connect Tags to PLC and good to have possibilties with Recipes.

CONS

Grapichally it is limited, not a lot of draw. Hard to use the drag and drop. Zoom are not so good. Little bit complex to involve it in the system (set the network and the links with other devices).

Excellent platform for the automation of industrial plants and production process.

Troubleshooting problems in a automated process

PROS

Rockwell Automation software like RSLogix5, 500 or 5000 offer an easy way to program and troubleshoot a problem following rung sequence in the ladder file

CONS

Factory Talk should have better training packages for companies. Engineers know about one or two software but not about the whole platform.
