Solidworks is industry standard a easy to learn, but expensive

SolidWorks was the first CAD software i ever used, in the start if you use others you are going to think that all the other are too hard to use, but as you become a experienced designer things start to become way better in other softwares.

PROS

SolidWorks in most engineering schools is going to be the one that is teached first, it is pretty easy to use and learn, has its most important tools in the first page wich makes it the best for startes. The Render tools are by far the most sofisticated in the market for a long time, so if want to impress a client thats a must.

CONS

It's easy to use and learn in the start, but as the modeling goes more complex, and you need to simulate a mechanism or even a make a stress–strain analysis it becomes harder, some of the tools are hidden in the software and you need someone that passed through to find the habilit a lot of its tools that you going to need, like weldment tab for an exemple.

Reason for choosing SolidWorks Premium

It is more complete in render tools and my team already used it in previous experencies.

The Best and Easiest Cad Software

I like solidworks very much and i advise every design engineer to use it

PROS

Solidworks is the best, the software helps you to make designs very easily and quickly in just a few steps, it's much widespread in my country and the developers are working hard to make it much easier for use, I like also when they add feature which ease the work much more.

CONS

1-You need to subscribe every year for the software and I think than subscription value is expensive. 2-No backward Compatibility, example: You cannot save a file from solidworks 2020 to use and edit on solidworks 2018, this may force you to buy the subscription every year to keep up with the software update 3- Catia files - as another Dassault software- should be fully supported on solidworks as solidworks files exactly 4. every year the first s.p like sp0.0 and sp1.0 have too much glitches and sometimes your work files get corrupted because of these glitches. 5-Gaming Gpus power cannot be fully consumed by solidworks as they are not certified or totally compatible with solidworks, and I think the developers need to work on this point

Reason for choosing SolidWorks Premium

It's the easiest and quickest one to use, it's interface is also user very user-friendly

Not worthy of the price

I have been using Solidworks Premium (2017 and 2020 SP3.0) for the past 3 years and I still do. It is a very unstable program. Crashes more often than not and it has many bugs that make the creation of large assemblies feel like hell. Customer support is not satisfactory at all. Solidworks customer service is also not helping as well. I would not recommend this product to anyone. You are surely better off with using Solid Edge / Creo Parametric or AutoDesk Inventor.

PROS

- Assembly features (configurations / exploded views) make the creation of assembly drawings faster - Rendering options are vast

CONS

- Very unstable as a program (Used it on more than 5 computers with multiple configurations) - Its developers focus on adding extra useless features instead of focusing on the program stability - Command layout is not practical (Features Tab has three (3) buttons for the Extrude Command (Boss Extrude / Cut Extrude / Intersect) where as in Inventor there is only one command button. This is a personal opinion and I highly prefer AutoDesk's approach on this - Customer Support: Depends on the Value-Added-Reseller (VAR). Some of them are very cooperative whereas others just want your money. Personally I do not like representatives and I prefer to contact the actual company (AutoDesk has the upper hand here).

Reasons for switching to SolidWorks Premium

My previous employers used to work with these programs. Solidworks is not a choice I made. I surely wouldn't pick Solidworks.

A CAD no-brainer

Overall we've been satisfied, fire it up, model parts, model assembly, do the additional tasks, job done. Revisions mid way? Ok, as far as late stage revisions can be deemed "ok" in a cad software.

PROS

Been using Solidworks for ages, has less hiccups than the alternatives and gets the job done, even with complex assemblies.

CONS

The latest versions, while expanding on collaboration and SAP-ish features, which is good, seem to lack a bit in straigthforwardness. Some recent UI redesign slowed things a little bit.

Reason for choosing SolidWorks Premium

Backwards compatibility with all the previous work and predictable upgrade trend.

Reasons for switching to SolidWorks Premium

We switched long time ago when Creo was still named PRO/Engineer because of the huge number of bugs and hiccups and weird stuff. UI were more or less similar. Tried Creo again but were not convinced. Will give it a try again in the future. The latest Siemens NX version looks very promising.

Review after 10 years use of Solidworks

My overall 10+ years experience with solidworks is very fantastic. I learned solidworks in my college days and I am using in my professional carrier. It easy and very useful in product and machine design. It also comes with some analysis tools and add on packages which makes job easy.

PROS

Its very user friendly software compare to other softwares. Its make job easy for designers and gives some in build libraries along with premium version which saves the time.

CONS

Solidworks is expensive than solidedge. Solidworks don't have accuracy compare to NX CAD or CATIA. Surfacing is not that much accurate in solidworks.

Reasons for switching to SolidWorks Premium

Autocad is 2D drawing software, solidworks gives better visualisation.

Career Using Solidworks

Overall, Solidworks has become a trusty tool for me. I'm able to get my point across clearer with a 3D drawing with detailed views to the customer instead of working on a physical model. I suggest taking classes if you're very new to the world of 3D modeling but if you have an understanding of it, a quick set of Youtube tutorials can get you on track easily. I recommend this product to anyone who has a creative mind and wants to make objects digitally with hopes to transfer it into a physical model.

PROS

Solidworks is good for taking things you've drawn and giving precise dimensions to make it as accurate to the object you're trying to create or recreate as possible. You're able to transfer these drawings to machines that can cut and print what you've done after. Since this software is so popular among design/engineer firms, thousands of tutorials and helpful guides can be found on the internet to help with anything you are trying to produce, along with many forums with knowledgeable people that are willing to help. It has many modes that can simulate object properties if you assign a material to it and will give you a close representation of what you'd expect in the real world.

CONS

Solidworks has trouble with organic shapes. If you are doing something that requires a bulbous shape you might need to look elsewhere like 3DS Max or Maya. It also has trouble with the spline command, which requires a bit more finesse when controlling it.

Reasons for switching to SolidWorks Premium

I made the switch at the time because Solidworks had more to offer. Inventor needed a bit more calculations on my end in order for me to create my vision, but Solidworks simplified a lot of features and allowed for snaps to be done on planes that were on multiple angles. I believe Inventor fixed this issue and made it more user friendly but I'm entrenched in Solidworks and it hasn't given me any reason to switch yet. Plus the market really shows that companies are looking for Solidworks.

SolidWorks, a real solid option

Overall, SolidWorks Premium is a must for mechanical engineers in the lookout for a tool that can simplify their work. Solid allows for various types of studies so engineers can optimize, geometries or materials that can result in efficient and quality results appreciated by companies, Solid smooths and betters the life of any mechanical engineer.

PROS

Easy 3D modeling. Great tool for mechanical studies. Solid allows for a wide range of studies that can be done over your 3D model, from static, frequency, CFD, motion study for mechanisms etc. SolidWorks is an essential tool for any mechanical engineer who is in a design area, you can run studies to know what to expect on your products, of course SolidWork studies must be backed up with knowledge from the engineer and real-life experiments in prototypes for the best results. Technical drawings are also included, which are crucial when bringing to life any digital concept.

CONS

Manufacturing processes are a crucial part in the life of any design. SolidWorks will not provide this, so another option could be Autodesk Fusion 360 which in general is more user friendly but does not have the capacity that SolidWorks offers, Solid is a more complete software.

One of the most user-friendly 3D design programs available.

Because of the many plugins and capabilities that Solidworks offers to its users, we were able to speed up the exporting of designs for use by our work teams, especially for simple designs.

PROS

The ease with which a design may be built and the precision with which 3D models can be created are two of my favorite features of Solidworks. As a designer, I use Solidworks because of its many basic 3D tools and flattening choices for producing free-form pieces, which allow me to show my clients accurate renderings of the designs I've created for their space. Solidworks is a user-friendly program that lets you create drawings and apply different textures to surfaces, making it easier to bring your ideas to life in 3D. It also includes an outstanding online component library full of downloadable pieces that you can use to create your designs. With this option, it is easy to find faults in the design plan and solve them, which leads to the design being completed on schedule and to the satisfaction of everyone involved.

CONS

Large-scale model creation in Solidworks is incredibly flexible, but assembly of many components is slow and requires a high-speed computer to be able to execute orders faster.

"Great Software"

SolidWorks is very simple to learn. I wasn't expecting that yet I when I began going through the instructional exercises it truly nailed it. It has every one of the devices that one would need to make a 3D model. Likewise, Solidworks permits engineers to make their own modules to add extra usefulness to Solidworks the manner in which they need it. SolidWorks has a pleasant UI and simple to utilize, when you are beginning to learn, it is very helpful instructional exercises that need to make you stride by venture through the way toward making a 2D view to a 3D. Produce plans and perspectives is simple and agreeable to present or pass them to reality with a 3D printer.

PROS

The adaptability and the interface of the product is quite incredible. Architects can work with industry-explicit instruments to help decrease the time taken to plan an item. The interface is extraordinary, yet in addition the delivered pictures acquired utilizing the product is first rate, giving you a vibe for the genuine item you will in general plan. Also, You don't need to leave the program to do reenactments on the gadget you are planning. Additionally love the amazing way simple it is to transform something you've made into a 3D printed object.

CONS

Overall, SolidWorks Premium has been excellent. I helps me get all of my ideas onto something tangible and it turns those ideas into designs that are the best it can be. Without SolidWorks Premium, I would never do anywhere near as well in my job or in my field in general.

PROS

Personally, for my job as a mechanical engineer, I use this software every day. It is absolutely great! From simulations to the simple sketch, SolidWorks Premium equips businesses with the power needed to make truly phenomenal designs. This is not even mentioning the fact that you can easily export all of your designs into other softwares like Onshape and do even more from there!

CONS

The only con of this excellent software would be the difficulty for new users to learn its tools and options. SolidWorks Premium simply covers too much for a beginner to digest. However, this is understandable given that it is designed for a more advanced range of CAD users.

User Friendly Interface and best 3D modelling software for Mechanical Design Engineers

I have best user experience on using solidworks. It is one of the cheapest and best solid modelling software available in the market. We use solidworks for designing machineries, conveyors and fabrication drawings. Used frequently throughout school and in industry. Tons of features, and large user base for help.

SW was the first CAD package I ever used and it really taught me the fundamentals of designing parts and assemblies on a computer. I've been using it for more than 6 years and it's always recognizable and easy to use even across different versions.

PROS

Solidworks was the first CAD program I ever used, and it has been one of my favorites so far. It has all the features you need, laid out in an easy to access toolbar (though this does get rearranged from time to time with different updates). I think in the solid modeling side, it matches most other software, but it excels in the drawing department. I've used other software that gives you less features, and it's workable, but SolidWorks has every feature and option when it comes to drawings, which is really helpful for specifying and tweaking to get things just how you want them.

CONS

I know it has the feature to do multi body modeling, but I've never used it and am not sure how well it works. Recently I've been using onshape, and the part studio concept makes designing sub assemblies very intuitive, whereas in SolidWorks, each part was always in its own document, and then everything comes together in the assembly. Not a huge complaint, and maybe SW does it well, and I've just never used it. A common problem with all the CAD software I've used is not specific enough error messages when features fail, and SW is guilty of this as well.

SolidWorks Premium review

There are many programs in 3D design, but due to its distinct specifications Solidworks was chosen to design and print the graduation project parts using a 3D printer.

PROS

It is one of the popular software for 3D design of mechanical parts. I have used this software for a year or more to design parts of my graduation project. It is an easy to learn program and contains many powerful tools in design. Including - design tools - Validate tools - Collaboration Tools - Building tools The most important feature I liked is the simulation of the design and testing its tolerance to pressure and heat, as well as an analysis of the movement of the designed part (a great feature).

CONS

The Solidworks program contains a lot of tools and features, which makes the program very heavy. It needs a computer with a powerful processor as well as a powerful graphics card to ensure that there are no interruptions or slowdowns in the program. Also, one of the disadvantages is that it is very expensive. With the free version, you cannot manufacture any part you designed because you do not own the rights to it.
