Exam.net frequent user review

PROS

I especially like using exam.net for writing. I can use it as a platform for practice writing sessions and for writing examinations. It is especially helpful to be able to monitor students live and in real time. This allows me to give feedback while they are writing, which is usually quite appreciated.

CONS

I prefer to use Microsoft forms for auto/self correcting exams and assignments. The actual construction of the exam or assignment seems to be somehow more efficient or smoother in FROMS. The advantage with exam.net though is that the students are locked into the exam environment and are not able to use the internet to find answers. That is not the case with FORMS.

Vendor Response

Thank you so much for your review! We are happy to hear you find the platform helpful! We are currently working on a new exam creation flow that simplifies and improves the process of creating the exams, especially the auto-marked ones. So hopefully you'll see an improved experience on that soon!

Great Product!

I love Exam.net!

PROS

Capability to add audio to the tests and user friendly.

CONS

we could use 0.25 options to grade and the option to add recordings in the questions it would be helpful for our multiple language tests.

Reason for choosing Exam.net

During the pandemic, Exam.net was gracious enough to offer free subscriptions. I applauded their initiative. That saved our trainings.

Very useful software for assessment

In the teaching of a foreign language I’ve solved the problems linked to the listening activities because the students have the audio available and they can listen the track as many times they wish.

PROS

I’m an English teacher and the most useful features for me are: the possibility to add audio tracks, the possibility to add the options such as help for translation, synonyms, spelling check, text to speech and also the possibility to add accessibility tools such as mind maps, schemes for students with special needs.

CONS

It is not possible to use an Apple Pencil to write in the text

Reasons for switching to Exam.net

Because with exam.net the students cannot copy thanks to the high security mode

Need Security when giving Online exams?

Overall, Exam.net was definitely a life-saver during the pandemic. Even now, that we are back to normal, the features of this platform provide test security in an online setting.

PROS

Browser lock down and TTS are the two most features that definitely helps. The translate is also a huge help to my Emergent Bilingual Learners. Easy to navigate when creating your exams, you can enter/type your questions for auto-grading or just upload a pdf if you are in a bind time-wise.

CONS

The one feature that I would like to see is to enable a scheduled time to close-out the exam. When creating an exam, it would be helpful if we can copy a question and just change the prompt on the copy but keep the answer choices the same.

Exam.net - indispensable tool for secondary school teachers

I have used it since 2019 and it just keeps getting better. I especially adore the introduction last autumn of a feature for creating auto-correcting tests. It's fa-bu-lous! I'm extremely fed up with test correction, and I spend a lot of time thinking of how I can use these auto-correcting features as much as possible ;) I teach languages, and for example, they are great for creating quick, variated tests on homework (mostly homework consisting in learning words but also sometimes grammar).

PROS

I like almost everything about it. Very much.

CONS

That if you've created a test with a specific test type, you can't change it even if not a single pupil has taken it, and that even if you make a copy, you can't change the test type, despite what is stated in the information box that pops up.

PROS

The ability to easily share tests and that it is secure.

It should be a way to import and export your tests so that you can easily duplicate your tests and. It is annoying to search through the archive. If one instead could export and import from Excel things would be easier.

Review about download the students collective score

PROS

The security system is very important and I like exam.net because of it

CONS

The first time we use exam.net we are easy to download and gain the students' score in excel because there is only students name and their score but nowadays after update the students score are displayed more complex and not simple.

Love Exam.net !

PROS

Many features that help with the dynamics of the exam or test... like Geogebra, animations (gif), formulas editing, etc...Automatic grading is excellent

CONS

To include Geogebra to design workshops or tests. Now is just a tool for students, but not teachers. To include the corresponding calculator reference for IB programs (simulator)To include in the lower security or basic level of security some additional notification about the student´s suspicious activity during the exam for teachers or admin. Recognition of not allowed IA or copy/ pasting. To upload activities using the laptop camera, not the phone to avoid misunderstanding during classes

Exam.net - my experience as a teacher

We use exam.net so that we have a chance to participate in the students writing, as it happens, and that so we can let them take a test in a way that hopefully eliminates cheating (looking for answers at different websites, and using copy-paste).

PROS

Easy to construct a test/assignmentA variety of features that enables me to assist pupils with at variation of needs (for example the option to scan a handwritten text, or that the pupil can listen to his/her written text)Easy to give other personal access to a test that I have created

CONS

When in a test-situation (students take a test): The screensaver comes on way too fast when the higher security level is on. This is frustrating for both student and teacher. It would be much easier for the student to grasp how much text he/she has written if the writingdocument was divided in pages, such as Word for example. It is apparently relatively easy for a student with some knowledge to crack the code on how to be able to reach other websites, even with the higher security level on.

Review of exam.net features

It has been great so far. So much appreciated. Unfortunately, we can't apply it with all the courses as we want due to its limited functions, specifically the spreadsheet fucntion.

PROS

The securing ability of the platform is as perfect as what we want.

CONS

I like all of it. It only lacks a few important features that need to be added. For example, spreadsheet function

Reason for choosing Exam.net

This has been highlighted in the previous responses. The main reason is exam.net is able to secure the exams while Google Forms and Sheets cannot. Plus, it is simple and easy to use (unlike some other platforms that seem very complicated, e.g. SpeedExam)

Reasons for switching to Exam.net

Google Forms and Google Spreadsheets can do whatever functions we need. But it lacks security, as it cannot restrict user's account, or it cannot secure the browser. However, we are still having to use Google Spreadsheets for many of our exams due to the current limitation of exam.net. We hope exam.net can be better serve in the few months or years to come.

7-9 English teacher's thoughts on Exam.net

Overall I'm very happy with using Exam.net. It's easy to use, understand and allows me to more objectively assess my student's knowledge - without exterior factors such as spellcheckers, ai, siblings, etc.

PROS

The best things about Exam.net is that it's secure and safe, that tests are easy to construct, the automatic correction is mostly implemented well, and that there is so much customizability for you as the user.

CONS

I honestly can't really think of anything, other than that the service may become a bit less reliable during periods of heavy use (such as nation-wide tests in which many schools use Exam.net as their writing space).

Exam.net is really useful in my assessment

Works great with the students, both on exams and when I need them to work without being able to use the internet.

PROS

Easy to work in. I like that the students only need a code to login.

CONS

That it's not possible to make comments on specific things they write. That could be helpful in scenarios where it's not meant to be an exam. Sometimes the verbal reading (automatic) doesn't work that well.

PROS

CONS

I would like to be able to move questions and subtasks created within an exam to another existing exam more easily. I would like to have more options for customizing how I view the exams which I have created. As my supply of exams gets more more and more expansive, navigating the assessments I have created gets difficult.

CONS

The function "type of test" needs improvement. It is not very flexible and doesn't meet my needs to give instuctions, models and examples that the student can reach easily during test. It is also difficult or impossible to go back and change the type of test without erasing the ongoing test and make a new one.

Really useful tool for language exams

I like it more each time I use it. Optimistic.

PROS

It's environmentally sound- we save lots of paper. We cannot lose student papers. Handwriting is no longer a problem. PERHAPS cheating is harder- the online chat feature is wonderful for questinos. So far, we are on the learning curve that means we spend a little more time than before but once we get the hang of creating auto-marked exams, I think that will even out.

CONS

We are struggling with the open cloze. Not sure why it's so weirdly marked. Also still trying to figure out how to use old templates to make new exams. Too bad teachers sharing papers cannot also edit them.

PROS

The fact that I can get students to write in a closed environment and actually see that they are writing in real time as well as that they are able to chat with me during the exam.

CONS

I haven't been using exam.net for long so I'm not familliar with all the features. It took a while to understand some parts, e.g. how to use the high security mode, how to give "talsyntes" and spelling check to students with dyslexia. I think it's a minus that you can't preprogram that and that you have to do it during the exam (if there are many of them in a class, that takes a while).

CONS
