Great package, but service response times could improve

Generally it is faster.

PROS

We run our entire business, website, accounting, orders, purchasing, payroll, on this package, and have for years. Yet there are still parts we don't use because of unfamiliarity with every facet. Generally quite pleased.

CONS

Sometimes it takes a long time to get a response from service if we go through the portal. I'm still waiting on a response from a call from a week ago. Also, moving to DDMSPlus required more integration, such as with credit cards, that we could have done without. We were happy with our existing system of handling credit cards, and were told we didn't have to change that, until we did. If you don't have Net1, you can't use credit cards on DDMSPlus. Period. DDMSPlus was sold to us as a required upgrade, because DDMS was being retired. With that was the necessary requirement to go to Net1, which was considerably more expensive than our existing process.

ERP to advance your business.

I have been with DDMS software with 5 companies starting in 1989. I currently work with 3 dealers in 3 different states to make sure that DDMS works for the way they do business. It allows for growth of business without the need to add on additional support staff. The website works to reduce the customer service employee count. The first dealer I worked with went from 23 employees doing 4 million a year to 14 employees doing 6 million a year. It might seem expensive, but if you consider the cost of one employee, the software pays for itself.

PROS

This software will work with the way you do business, not force you to change the way you do business to work with the software.

CONS

There are several things now that you must have ECI do that use to be simple I.T. fixes. On Level 3 you can not set up your own users. You can not set up your own printers. Access to the data has become more complicated. These might be features that they fix going forward, as level 3 is the latest feature rich environment.

Reason for choosing DDMSPLUS

DDMS was the most advanced office products software in the market. Still today it is one of the most flexible and robust software packages for any retail distribution company.

Love the one you're with

Overall, I will say it's good. DDMS has wonderful people in its employ, and the software is absolutely critical to our operations. We need them. Could it be updated, more polished, more user-friendly? Absolutely. Do I wish they'd take development concerns more seriously? Absolutely. But really there aren't any other options, so we do with what we've got. I will say, though I am not their biggest cheerleader (and can be a little harsh at times), they've done good by us more times than not.

PROS

It's so well integrated to the OP industry that really there are not very other alternatives that make sense. It does most things reasonably well. OE is fine, PO entry/history is fine, reporting is fine. We have recently started utilizing auto-short-buy which has really streamlined our warehouse operations and order flow, which is great. That's been a big plus for us.

CONS

DDMS Plus is just way slower than legacy DDMS, and that left a sour taste in my mouth. It's also just seems expensive to me.

DDMSPLUS a natural upgrade to our business management tools

DDMSPLUS has allowed managers and sales staff to be more efficient when working remotely.

PROS

We upgraded from DDMS to DDMSPLUS and love the fact it is cloud based. No more time spent upgrading and maintaining equipment and software.

CONS

As it is cloud based, there are a few things that we now do not have control over and have to message ECI through their portal to resolve issues.

Great for organization and Company values

Keeping sales and invoicing neat and organized, PO's and inventory.

PROS

I like that you can just click on the arrow to go to the next department without having to enter 5 times until you get to the next customer

CONS

when entering Contact info to send email you have to keep closing the box to get to the next one where as with the credit card you can just click the arrow to next

Hopes for the future

PROS

Overall ease of use for the csr's to use.

CONS

There are simple things that come across as if the design team just got lazy and were done with this. Example when you are entering in a new customer and you tab to the next field to enter under Shipto/Attention. You enter the account name tab to got to the next line but no it goes to Shipto ID click over on the suite line hit tab it goes back to Shipto ID not the street address line. also entering in un-cataloged items in the Text screen is easier the entering them in the Graphical, text lets you know this number is to long but graphical lets you add in numbers no matter the length and you don't know it's too long till you print it or the po you have attacked it to then you have to delete and redo them all.

DDMS Plus

DDMSPLUS is a better version of DDMS. The graphical interface is easier to navigate than the previous version.

PROS

The graphical interface makes the user experience much easier The elimination of the .dbf files makes the software more accessible using 3rd party tools

CONS

The file structure is difficult because of the leading spaces

DDMS Review

PROS

The ability to unreceive product if the need arises.

CONS

The prepay order features where you can't make changes to an order once it is in the system. Furniture people tend to make changes to their orders.

Familiar but missing an important feature

Have used DDMS platform for over 30 years. DDMSPLUS

PROS

Familiarity with previous versions makes DDMSPLUS an easy conversion

CONS

We previously had a program from Essendant, Market Xpert, that offered the ability to create and automatically update customer price plans based on competitor pricing. That no longer works with DDMSPLUS.

From old to new

Really can't say due to only being on the system for two months

PROS

The process of upgrading to DDMSPLUS was a great transition for us. We are working through a few issues but overall I will say that this was an excellent move.

CONS

I don't have any comments at this time since it has only been two months.
