The platform is very user-friendly with logical case flow, file previews with data inputs being very straightforward. As a collaborative tool, it provides real-time updates with our internal stakeholder contributions and makes case progression simplified. One of our favorite things that stands above other management systems that we have used is the friendly and attentive customer service. We have had several instances where we had a question or issue arise that needed more than the platform Q&A. Every time, the agent exemplified a level of customer service that is rare. They were careful to understand the issue and provide options to resolution or suggestion to a work around. #### Cons So far, we’ve only encountered one limitation. Expanding the CSV import/export functionality to include more detailed case information fields would be extremely beneficial. When working with large volumes of data, manual entry is simply not a practical solution. That said, when we raised this concern, the support team was receptive and understood the need. Just then, NextChapter was in beta and I agreed to test it. I immediately thought it was the best iteration that this program could ever be. 3 years later, I feel even more convinced. There are SO MANY features that have made my job easier. Setting up email reminders so clients turn in paperwork, take credit classes, etc., are invaluable. I don't have to be the one to constantly remember to do this for each and every client anymore. I can text clients through next chapter so they don't have access to my personal phone. The flow of entering a case is easy, clear and you are able to easily move around. They have a complete online Help library that walks you through doing anything on their system and truly nice online chat help. I discovered the product during a google search for a cloud product that we could utilize on a case by case basis. As a small law firm, we don't have the need for a product license, and NextChapter's " pay as you go" feature is convenient and cost effective for the 1-3 cases a year we file. The case setup and schedule organization is easy to navigate when entering debtor information. Adding creditors is very simple and you can save common creditors to avoid retyping for each case. #### Cons It can be a little tricky at first use to decipher how all of the information is linked and displayed on the schedules. I utilize the "preview" feature frequently to confirm the information I entered is displayed in the correct schedule/location of the petition. There is a learning curve, but after familiarizing yourself through trial/error you understand the process. #### Reasons for choosing NextChapter It was more cost effective than using Best Case, and I felt Best Case online was more complicated to use than the desktop version. #### Reasons for switching to NextChapter We were using Best Case through a product license and just weren't getting a great value of it due to the cost versus the amount of bankruptcy cases we were filing every year. #### Vendor response Thanks so much for the thoughtful review, April! My interactions with NextChapter staff has been extremely positive and everyone has been eager to help me when I have questions. My overall experience can best be summed up by saying Next Chapter's Customer Service is impeccable. I used to spend an hour or more to attempt to get issues fixed, and I can't say enough about how great Next Chapter is to work with. We can let them know if there is a problem, issue, or if I have a question about how something works. We get a quick response, and Next Chapter works with us to make sure the solution works not only within the software, but for us specifically. The text feature is new for us and both the firm and our clients love it. Being able to set our own fields in a lot of different areas has been really nice, and something we did not have with our prior software. The court notices & calendar features are incredible. I go in and double-check the items, but I have never seen anything missing from the schedule. It's great to know when you can trust your software to get the job done! #### Cons The biggest draw back is the inability to easily run reports on cases filed each month or download a list of all closed clients, etc. From time to time, we have minor issues with searching or loading, but Next Chapter works with us to resolve those issues as soon as possible. #### Vendor response Susan, we are so happy to have you and your firm on board! No incentive was offered The software program we utilized was purchased by NextChapter forcing our conversion. I had used the other product for years and wasn't very happy with the change. Once I started using NextChapter and I actually allowed myself to stop resenting the change, I found this program to be a delightful change of pace. If I have all required client documentation at my fingertips, I am able to complete a bankruptcy packet in a few hours instead of over the course of a few days. I didn't want to, but I love my NextChapter software. Information is put in one time and is then populated into the required forms. When I did need a little help, I found the staff quite willing to answer my questions. #### Cons I had to learn a whole new way to deal with data input. All of the questions a law firm is required to answer in order to complete the paperwork (forms) are in the software, however, if you're not paying close attention when you are new to the system, it is easy to overlook basic entry points and become very frustrated. The most appealing function on NextChapter is integrating the debtor(s) credit report into the petition. Is there anything easier than that? One other thing I like about NextChapter, and it may seem trivial to some, is I do not have to click on any "Save" button at anytime to save the data I have already enter. I can exit the software, come back to it two days later and my previous edits were automatically saved. NextChapter is the easiest and most cost effective bankruptcy software on the market in my opinion. #### Cons There isn't anything I like least about this software. You can upload your client's pdf documents needed to file with the petition and save them in NextChapter. No more jumping back and forth from your client's electronic folder to NextChapter. Also the speed is great, updates in one area immediately change the calculations in others. I have used other cloud based software where there was a lag and sometime you had to close out and reopen to see the changes. They threaten me with hours of waiting, but someone takes on the chat usually fairly immediately. #### Ratings breakdown - Ease of use: 3/5 - Value for money: 5/5 - Customer support: 5/5 - Functionality: 5/5 #### Pros I handle exclusively Chapter 7 bankruptcy using NextChapter's app. Bankruptcy is not my main practice area, which means that really the most cost-effective way for me to use the software is to use it on an as-needed per-petition basis ... and NextChapter lets me do that. I don't have to buy some big contract that would take 100 petitions to pay for itself. Instead, the pricing is such that I can pass that along to the client with each petition I handle. Also, I like that the app guides us through the required fields and information in a reasonably logical way. #### Cons I'd like to be able to print a preview of the petition before buying it. It's fine that the print product would say "PREVIEW DO NOT FILE" all over it; I get that NextChapter needs to make its money somewhere and they choose to do that by charging the a la carte customer to download and print the petition. When there are errors the customer support team usually responds within 5-10 minutes and can resolve the problem quickly. They often implement improvements to the software and add-ons. #### Cons Sometimes little things are not flushed out but this is usually only for local forms, where there are so many, and the issue just has not been raised. I have not had any problems that couldn't be fixed. The software almost always works flawlessly and there are so many features that make my bankruptcy practice run seamlessly. #### Cons The learning curve was a little steep, but this is probably because I had been used to a different bankruptcy software provider and I hadn't practiced in a few years. I have been in this business over 40 years and this is the best bankruptcy program I have used. I love the one input feature that goes to all of the appropriate schedules and how fast I can get a case inputted and ready to review and then file.
