Asset and shot management tool we use at my company.
Great to centralize your whole pipeline into one tool used by everyone, from production managers to artists.
PROSI really like how robust the software is, you can really tweak it to fit your needs. The userbase can get big without any slowing down.
CONSThe downside is that since you can tweak everything the basic version is not always suitable for your basic needs.

Reason for choosing ShotGrid
Si tratta di un prodotto focalizzato sulle produzioni CGI

Only works well if you have a team of engineers to customize it
It helps us keep a detailed handle on where tasks are in our pipeline. Especially we have thousands of small tasks that need to be done in a proper order and notify the downstream departments when you're done. And for that Shotgun has really helped make sure that tasks aren't falling through the cracks or just not notifying the right people.
PROSIt solves a lot of problems for us by pulling together data management, task management and creative reviews all into one ecosystem. All off competing softwares don't do all three. This product works great for very large film/tv projects with 500+ users, consistent pipelines and dedicated resources for pipeline and production TDs to help set it up, and integrate into your workflows.
CONSBasic setup and management can be convoluted. Once it's setup it isn't too much hassle or maintenance, but setup will be a long road. If you have a small/ studio, or work on projects that don't follow a consistent production process, then this is not the tool for you. There are some very befuddling pitfalls/limitations to the software that they have not fixed despite being asked numerous times - Notifications/email system is too basic. If you bulk edit 200 tasks, it's going to send 200 emails/notifications. There is also no easy way to subscribe to just the updates that you want. They keep trying to pitch their "follow" system which is like watchers in JIRA, except you can't automatically follow anything, you have to individually/manually follow items. It's archaic. - For a creative review software, their note system is poor. Basically a plain text box that doesn't understand bullets/numbering/other html editing. Also won't keep the text of a note and an image together. It always separates them out and puts the images at the bottom of a note instead of giving you an easy way to connect the two. - Their "super awesome" support tier for $50/per user/month - is anything but awesome. 90% of the time their response will be "you should submit that as an idea to our public roadmap and the product team will review" which in my experience means 'we're not doing that and never will'
Reason for choosing ShotGrid
Trello was too simple - didn't allow bulk adding content, data mining, advanced task templates where more than one downstream dependency gets kicked off. You would need to create a crazy web of butler workflows to get it half-work JIRA - doesn't have any creative review features and doesn't work well at all for waterfall scheduling HackNPlan was cool but too small of an organization to get all the features we would need. Again, no bulk adding content. Hansoft - maybe the most robust tracking tool but uglier and even more complicated than Shotgun (if you can even imagine)
Reasons for switching to ShotGrid
A small part of our team was using it and we thought it would be an improvements on JIRA. Which it was for some things but not for others.

A great tool with some useful features
Easily one of the better review softwares I've used in my time, with many other options lagging behind in terms of quality and features.
PROSProbably the most useful tool I've found with ShotGrid is the keyboard shortcuts for zoom and pan. It is a simple thing, but makes reviewing images quick and easy. Secondly, the option to include images as part of the notes allows for more specific feedback (a picture being worth a thousand words, after all). Beyond this there is little more than sets ShotGrid apart from all other review software I'm familiar with, but it is certainly on par with other options, if not better.
CONSThere is nothing not to like about ShotGrid in particular. There are occasional times when I wish for more advanced features, such as leaving comments over multiple frames, but these are very much in the desirable rather than essential category, and are nothing that prevents me from providing full and essential feedback.

I'm using this software since 1 years as cg supervisor. i've done many project using shotgun.
The sofware is used worldwide it's robust. The customization of this software is endless. The RV integration is a great feature
CONSToo much pages to access the same information, it's a real maze. The software doesn't always reflect our own workflow, we need to adapt to this software although that is the software that needs to adapt to us.

Convenient!
It took some time to get used to, but I definitely don't regret getting acquainted with it now! As the iteration speed increases with time and tech, it's good to have a really solid project tracking solution for 3DCG.
PROSHaving a catch-all way to pull and push iterations on various assets really is incredibly convenient! It's much more efficient than versioning since the way that changes are tracked is more descriptive than just what files changed.
CONSI used to think that some of the pages looked a little spreadsheet-ish but then it kind of dawned on me that in any high-volume production there's probably not really much wiggle room for things to have a more artsy-fartsy UX.

Animator Review
Overall for what i was using it for it was perfectly fine after having a few tutorials, i think if i was spending any longer in it i would be a lot more comfortable over time.
PROSI liked being able to see the episode put together through the finished shots, it was easy enough to see what shots i had assigned and at what stage they were at.
CONSI still found the interface a little confusing, i used it for 6 months and only used it really to see my shots and to see where they were in the animation pipeline but whenever i tried to do something new i would get a bit lost.
