Fishbowl Manufacturing Software


Fishbowl is a business automation and inventory management platform for small to midsize companies. It integrates with QuickBooks accounting and offers inventory control, material requirements planning (MRP) and job shop floor control/manufacturing execution.

It is an inventory-centric system, with features for barcoding, asset management, raw materials management, cycle counting and customized reporting. The system also automates the quoting, ordering and purchasing processes. The work order system enables users to create and share work orders for a variety of tasks.

Fishbowl offers training and support resources through its training videos, online tutorials, in-house specialists and more. Fishbowl’s integration with QuickBooks allows users to integrate manufacturing, sales, and distribution processes with back office accounting. Additionally, it also integrates with third-party accounting, shipping, e-Commerce and merchant services.

    I really enjoyed working with Sabrina Jones. She is great.

    Pros

    It is very user friendly. Our on site trainer Sabrina was amazing, she is very knowledgeable and easy to work with.

    Cons

    Trying to figure out if it has some of the same capabilities we had in Quick Books. Some of the functions we need are not there.

    CSR was fantastic in helping us learn about the product and taking the time to listen to our issues/concerns. Even though we found out Fishbowl was not a great fit for us, it wasn't the fault of her. She's a very good asset to your company.

    not easy and straightforward to use on a day to day basis, I am sure it's a great product but just not a good fit for our business right now..

    Various team building events have utilized fishbowl. No complaints for our team and everyone has been easily informed.

    Pros

    Simplicity, easy to organize, intuitive front-end experience.

    Cons

    No big complains. I feel like future versions of the software may offer more features and help it become a tool used for larger events. It feels like it's best for smaller/private groups for now.

    Fishbowl is so easy to use and their customer service team genuinely cares about their customer base. I cannot rave enough of this software.

    Cons

    There was a minor learning curve once I first began using the software. However, after a demonstration I was able to get a very good grasp.

    Easy to use, Wiki page is amazing, customer support is responsive and easy to work with, and the user interface is intuitive for our less computer savvy users.

    Cons

    The manufacturing orders round up to the next integer causing issues with manufacturing too much. Other than that Fishbowl functions as it should for an ERP system.

    Easy to use. Intuitive and easy to learn. Works well to manage our inventory. Some good reports that are standard. Integrate well with other programs.

    Troubleshooting can be challenging. The length of time it takes to get a call back from support isn't ideal when your down.

    I'm an Advanced QuickBooks Pro Advisor and I specialize in Inventory set up and management. I haven't found any program with as many capabilities at such a low cost range as Fishbowl. Netsuite can handle what Fishbowl does but can easily go into the hundreds of thousands to setup and get started and I found the process very complex. Fishbowl on the other hand, can import from QuickBooks and have you set up and running in just a few minutes, though I stress that this should be used as test only. To accurately use Fishbowl it can take months to setup and learn properly. This largely depends on your current experience with technology, accounting practices and inventory knowledge.

    Cons

    The support isn't stable. Depending on your time zone, you'll get a different team. Some zones, depending on the day and time, will pick up your call immediately and be very knowledgeable and helpful. Others will take a day to get back to you and you'll get someone who's only been there a few months but will confidently tell you something as fact and you might find our later they don't actually know what they're talking about. However, the online wiki is very detailed so if you're someone who can figure out things on your own, this will be a huge help. Basically, I've found that most people who complain about Fishbowl are really complaining about inventory, which is hugely complex. But if you're a detail oriented company with personnel who don't cut corners, Fishbowl can be an excellent fit for you. Just don't expect it to be easy!

    Pros

    An Easy to Use customizable user-friendly inventory management software. One-time cost which is also less than of any other software at its level.

    Cons

    It has simple and only one reorder calculation. It cannot forecast purchase of inventory based on historical entries made in it. Updates interrupts our customizations.

    This was the inventory software at my last job. While I did not work in warehouse environment , I still used the software a few times a week. The company was happy with the product and didn't have any plans to change it up. It fulfilled their needs.

    Pros

    I used this software a lot at my last job. Once you learn the software, it is fairly easy to use. I had to contact them a couple times for assistance. They were always helpful and timely with responses. Good reporting and integration.

    Cons

    Some parts of the software in the beginning felt difficult to navigate through, making the learning curve tricky for someone who had not previously used inventory management software. Although once I learned it, it was fine.

    The support is total scam!
    They will ask you to subscribe support contract or something, if you want to ask anything to them. Even if the problem is actually their mistake! I used to be able to import/export csv from/to fishbowl before, now i can’t anymore since i update the software. I contact the support regarding this problem and they ask me to buy support contract otherwise they will not answer my question ticket! I mean come on it’s a basic function of the product and clearly it’s because the bug of new version. And they’ll ask us to pay to solve their mistake ??? Duh! I’m totally migrating my database to Other product definitely!

    Software is complicated, I understand bugs. I appreciate your rapid customer support in getting the issues resolved!

    Pros

    Easy to use, lots of customizability options, and the mobile app is great especially for taking pictures.

    Cons

    I appreciate regular updates but I am afraid to update to new versions; twice now we've experienced problems upon updating (within 6 months of owning the software). The first update corrupted the images in our database and replaced our images with the bike shop demo images. The second problem occurred with a recent update, we can't export to QuickBooks because it says sales tax isn't set up. The other problem I seem to have is my labels don't print with my Brother printer, they print ok with the Zebra printer purchased, but better printer support would be ideal.

    User friendly, lots of features, very nice inventory tracking. Easy to generate POs and receive them.

    Cons

    BOM stages do not work properly as described in the Wiki. If we have sub-assemblies built already on the shelf, the manufacturing orders ignore this fact and try to say we need to build the entire order quantity's sub-assemblies from scratch. Everything is set up as "short quantity" and should pull from built inventory first, and then say we need to build the short quantity of sub assemblies we don't have.

    Cost to manufacture order is not accurate and does not account for sub-assemblies properly. I have discussed with various members of the Fishbowl team and everyone is aware that the software does not work the way it is claimed, but they have no solution. The development team will supposedly fix this core function of the software within 2-6 months, but we need the software to operate properly now, so unfortunately we must seek another ERP software after pouring many hours into setup of this one.

    It has the features that SMB's uses daily. It is also a pretty powerful tool for warehousing and inventory.

    Setting it up is challenging and also free trial is not available so need to check it thoroughly before buying.
