Fishbowl Manufacturing Software


 

Fishbowl is a business automation and inventory management platform for small to midsize companies. It integrates with QuickBooks accounting and offers inventory control, material requirements planning (MRP) and job shop floor control/manufacturing execution.

It is an inventory-centric system, with features for barcoding, asset management, raw materials management, cycle counting and customized reporting. The system also automates the quoting, ordering and purchasing processes. The work order system enables users to create and share work orders for a variety of tasks.

Fishbowl offers training and support resources through its training videos, online tutorials, in-house specialists and more. Fishbowl’s integration with QuickBooks allows users to integrate manufacturing, sales, and distribution processes with back office accounting. Additionally, it also integrates with third-party accounting, shipping, e-Commerce and merchant services.

Over all is a great tool

Pros

Easy to click and work the system. From creating Po's, work order and bill the material. Its pretty simple.

Cons

The reporting should have clicking option to see what we want to see on the report. it doesn't give you that many options since I don't want to see the cost on the report only on hand.

FishBowl - Could be good - Support is bad... real bad

Look elsewhere unless you really are prepared to roll your sleeves up and get dirty with this thing.

Cons

Support is slow and in many cases the techs are not up to speed on their software and do not understand basic database functionality. We paid for the integration and have had many issue with the database. Duplicate record numbers ect. Fishbowl has struggled to solve these problems (that they created during the integration) If you go this route find a good outside consultant and pay them to do get the systsm working properly. (Tarabyte.com) is pretty good. Do not think for a minute that the Fishbowl people can get you up ad running easily. We have fairly simple E-com, shipping though 3PL warehouse. Simple stuff.... but Fishbowl techs really had us screwed up. Outside consultant... spnt some money but the systsm is working

Pros

I enjoy the steps. Usually, if I have a problem I can have it solved through a Chat. The team at Fishbowl understands that I am working with time constraints and they are quick to answer my call for help!

Cons

Sometimes it isn't flexible. I am not familiar enough with QuickBooks to know how the items in Fishbowl export. I feel there is more detail involved than our business requires.

I wish I could plug in a customer support ticket CRM. Then I would really be all-in-one!

Pros

I am able to create my Dashboard so I am able to see all aspects of the business that I need to see. With the click of my mouse I can easily get to what I need. This is by far my favorite feature!

Cons

We have experienced a few set backs of a "white screen" and have to contact support. They have helped us every time with this. Fishbowl support is very friendly and supportive. I wish they could sometimes call back faster than they do, but other than that you can rest assured that you will be helped and your problem will be solved.

Pros

Having a support contract, FB is able to field many questions and work on solutions for the user. It may take a little bit of time to get a hold of someone but once they are working with you it is nothing short of professional and helpful.

Cons

Little support for anything outside of FB (i.e. 3rd party applications). It's understandable being that most are very unique, but sometimes a little insight can go a long way.

Works for inventory management purposes. We are a food manufacturer and this system came recommended.

Cons

No good if you actually need to sell a product. It doesn't integrate with anything properly. We have had tons of problems. If you need to integrate with Shopify, do not use Fishbowl. The plugin was down for over a month after a Shopify update...which means no sales were going into Fishbowl and we couldn't properly manage our inventory. Customer service is prompt but unhelpful. Now that it's finally up and running again, we realized our taxes import as a sales item. They say that importing tax as tax is not a functionality of the plugin. So now we have to go line by line in Quickbooks and take tax out of every sale. Fishbowl, how are you selling an incomplete plugin to people...? If you are going to sell an inventory management software, it has to be able to integrate with other systems successfully.

A wide range of reports are provided, most of which are easily configurable.

Cons

Very poor support when problems arise which take an extended period of time to resolve, and often end up with the customer being passed from person to person.
Barcode module limitations that were not highlighted when I bought the system

One thing that I am most grateful for is that we chose a software package that is actively being improved... constantly... that is a real plus.

Pros

The company is continuously improving the product. They listen to their customer's suggestions... and also keep abreast of changing ways in which businesses function in our changing world. When they detect 'bugs'... they fix them!

Cons

As with most all software packages... the reports are not the most robust... However, there are 3rd party programmers who partner with Fishbowl. I run our entire business relying on reports that I have designed and then paid the 3rd party programmers to produce... the cost is very reasonable. This isn't really a 'con'... as almost all software has generic reports due to the fact that there is such a diverse user group.

Fishbowl Lacks Support

We've had Fishbowl for 2 years and have had NOTHING but problems - we are actively switching to a more competent system that offers support, unfortunately these take some time to onboard so we are stuck using Fishbowl until we have that up and running. I would caution ANYONE to not use this system because when something goes wrong (which is very often) they NEVER answer the phone, chat support often can't help and the place you in a queue where sometimes you don't receive a call back for 3-4 days. Stay away!

Pros

Nice well-rounded tool--it does a great job at managing everything from inventory to invoicing to charging our customer. Hard to find a solution that does all of that well and stays within a small business owners budget.

Cons

Quick books integration could be better. The integration itself is seamless which is great, but reading the Fishbowl data in Quickbooks could be better.

Pros

There is unlimited Vendor Part Numbers per part numbers. There is unlimited Bill Of Material Levels. Custom reporting is awesome once learned how to do do them. Service has been excellent!

Cons

Exporting to QuickBooks has had errors at times but the service team has been quick to resolve the issues. Custom reporting requires a lot of learning and more the more difficult a report is but what software does not have a learning curve.

It controls very well for sales orders

1- handling all the sales orders. Very good order control and back orders

Cons

Pros

I like that this product works with Quickbooks, which I have used in several settings. I became familiar with the product because of the ability to have both systems work together.

Cons

I have had the same problems with Fishbowl that I had with Quickbooks. Customer service is sometimes not as informed as I expect them to be but overall I have had a positive experience.

From an administrator standpoint it is very easy to implement and maintain. From a end user standpoint it is very easy to train new Fishbowl users, all modules are designed with the end users ease of use in mind. Technical Support personnel are very knowledgeable and usually isolate and fix and issues quickly.

Cons

I wish the reporting side of Fishbowl was more robust, Home Care Industries is a manufacturer they rely heavily on making sure raw materials are on hand or on order to meet customer orders. Having a true MPS or MRP as part of Fishbowl with be a great enhancement.

With simple tools, FishBowl has been extremely effective in making a simple to use, straightforward solution for many small businesses. The work order fulfillment indicator (red, green, yellow) allows you to see from a glance if you can build a system immediately or if the parts have not come in yet. You can also use Crystal Reports to write your company specific reports.

Cons

FishBowl's forecasting capabilities struggle slightly. There's no real MRP function, which, for an assembly house, can be a critical component. Other than that, this is a great small business solution.

You may need some technical knowledge to implement it yourself; that is really needed for any software like this, that will help you to streamline your whole supply chain. They offer a great after-sales support, but if you think you are not technical enough for the implementation, they also offer a training/implementation package.

Pros

- It has all required features from BOM creation, thru Mfg. / Purchase Orders, to Sales Order fulfillment
- For order management and fulfillment, manual solutions, like Excel, can't really compete with Fishbowl
- Cost-effective

Fishbowl software allows my company to always be in the know of our inventory position.
It is EASY to learn and easy to use.
This week I am adding 7 more users and having All my "on-the-road" salesmen use FISHBOWL directly. For Sales processing, for Inventory stocking orders, for Creating customers etc... Its that easy to use!!
A big shout out to my EASTERN Support team for the great support through CHAT, and to Jordan Boyce as he currently has been really taking care of my issues for my immediate upgrading of my use with Fishbowl. Adding FISHBOWL HOSTING to my affiliation with FB to secure that my Mobile Salesmen are using a STABLE environment!

Cons

Some REPORTS are not in the nicest format, nor have the best "filters" to navigate.
As well Little features [like spell check in email body templates] are missing, but Fishbowl does often upgrade their platform with new releases which often has these fixes.

It has a robust inventory system which works well. The order system is involved a performs well.. that is all I can say even though I am prompted by this section to write more. Seriously? What type of survey system is this?

Cons

F/B causes our server to crash several times a month. This results in lost wages and productivity, as nothing can get processed with F/B in our firm on a daily basis.

It provided a decent ERP for the price but is definitely geared to low transaction volumes.

Pros

Fishbowl is relatively easy to use (by nature, ERP systems are complex) and is relatively reliable for companies whose transactions number in the low hundreds per day. Their support is quite effective but may be slower than you like -- if your business is effectively down due to an ERP issue, the last thing you want to get when you call support is voicemail. Unless things have changed in recent (2017) releases, one must update the local client with each system update, and that can be problematic for small shops that do have centralized software management and have restricted local rights on their PCs. They did change from FireDB to MySQL late last year, which improved performance drastically, but the database still requires a lot of optimization, care and feeding in order to get peak performance. Eventually, the company I worked for decided that it had outgrown FBI and migrated to NetSuite.

Since our business depends on inventory movement of over 4,000 items, it has helped tremendously in time, effort & accuracy.

Pros

Logical progression of activity and inventory movement. System is reliable and like anything else if it is used properly, you can rely on the results for inventory verification, PO status and exporting to QuickBooks.

Cons

the reports feature needs work to better assimilate data as I find the need to get outside help to write reports that I like to see but is nice to see that it assimilates in the system

Being able to operate above and beyond to what we used to. We can now compete with our competitors

Pros

I absolutely love that FB is easy to use and easy to teach. It has all the features that our company uses daily. Examples include customer pricing rules, customer "numbers" or customer sku's, Auto PO function, The import/export feature has been a God-send when we need to import products to our website or send information to our customers. The substitute feature is very helpful too. We also really love how we can create custom fields within every module. I really love how the FB team remembers our company when we call and goes above and beyond when we have a hiccup or questions. We can thank FB for some of our company's success. W/o being able to correctly track inventory and use it for daily operations, we wouldn't be operating at the level we are today.

Cons

There aren't things that I like "the least" but there are things I wish FB offered/had that would help our type of business/company. This includes:
1) Since we are a product distributor, we provide a lot of our customers w/ "quotes." FB has the ability to create an "estimate" but no way to store it or look back at it for reference. Pricing rules are essentially only created in our line of operation when a customer begins buying a product. So, we have to create "quotes" on excel sheets and save them on our network folder. So it would be easier if it was all w/in FB. Or if there was a different section from pricing rules that you could make a pricing rule? If that makes sense
2) Wish we could customize reports that are staples of FB w/o paying high dollar. For ex. the packing slip should have a signature line or at least the option to include it. Or there should be options on layouts or what columns to include. Also, we've gotten feedback from customers on how they wish the item # and description where split into different columns.
3) If FB alerted a user if a sales order has been in the system for "x" amount of time. Like a dormant SO in FB
4) Be able to sort the packing slip. Ex. by Item #, customer #, item description, etc.
5) Had a UNSPSC code field. We've found that this is going to be an important code for future web sales.

Easier order entry

Pros

It lets you pull inventory from multiple warehouses for an order, and commit inventory from each location. Easy sales order entry, easy invoicing.

Cons

You have to purchase every module that you will be needing. If later on you expand and need more functionality, you have to foot out more money.
