# PrintSmith Vision User Reviews

## Reviews summary

- Overall rating: 4.0/5
- Total reviews: 214

### Secondary ratings

- Ease of use: 3.7/5
- Customer support: 3.8/5
- Value for money: 3.9/5
- Functionality: 3.8/5

### Rating distribution

- 5 stars: 67 reviews (31%)
- 4 stars: 94 reviews (44%)
- 3 stars: 37 reviews (17%)
- 2 stars: 14 reviews (7%)
- 1 star: 2 reviews (1%)

### Most mentioned pros

- The ease at which you can create an estimate (utilizing comparable past jobs and estimates from any client account), seamless conversion to Job Ticket, Invoice and ultimately post to billing saves hours of work each week.
- It has been an invaluable tool in bringing our Company from the age of hand written estimates, job tickets and invoices into the modern age of computers.
- We have been using PrintSmith since the early 1990's and while it has had some bugs, the tram is responsive and it consistently gets the jpb done.

### Most mentioned cons

- PS has a very archaic system for tracking customer followups and team collaboration and there is no way to automate any customer followups or pretty much anything.
- Some options are locked such as when searching Web Orders, the search option cannot be customized so instead of 'Invoice' as default, to change 'Web Order'
- When quoting large format work it would be great if the system could handle different sizes and orientations on a single printed board. As the system cannot handle this we have to guess at our production which is not always correct.

From start to finish, working with PrintSmith is easy to learn and pick-up on. As someone who was new to the printing industry, I had a lot to learn but PrintSmith made it a lot easier and brought the learning curve down.

Overall, I am happy with PrintSmith. I like it, but I don't consider it a complete product, hence the fact that we had to get PlanProphet on top of it.

#### Ratings breakdown

- Ease of use: 5/5
- Value for money: 4/5
- Customer support: 5/5
- Functionality: 3/5

#### Pros

It's a great platform overall. It's pretty intuitive to use once you get the hang of it. It has a lot of data available in the database if you get into creating your own reports, which is very useful. I had positive interactions with support as well.

#### Cons

The reporting module is not great. You have to really know how to code in inet designer and all the reports are static. We had to purchase another product (Plan Prophet) on top of PrintSmith to give us all that we need. PS has a very archaic system for tracking customer followups and team collaboration and there is no way to automate any customer followups or pretty much anything. I really dislike the super long term contracts whenever you ask for a new user license. Support hours are ridiculously expensive. You have to pay a lot of money for training. PS does not have any good video training. You have to heavily rely on the user manual, which is a great manual if you are a super technical person. Videos would be a lot more helpful. It also takes a long time to get new features implemented.

It's been good. And it's a workhorse. Just needs to be more intuitive and software management could be simplified.

#### Ratings breakdown

- Ease of use: 4/5

- Customer support: 5/5
- Functionality: 4/5

#### Pros

We have been using PrintSmith since the early 1990's and while it has had some bugs, the tram is responsive and it consistently gets the jpb done.

#### Cons

1. Updates require an entire manual reinstall instead for thr self-hosted server instead of the more familiar single click authorization, then the software handles the updates seemlessly. 2. Forms require a third party app and specialized skill. while enterprise sized business may have the resources to "program" and make changes to fors, small family owned companies do not. Everything has moved to simple Codeless programming with drag and drop capabilites and the forms should as well, without the third party software.

### Decent POS Software for Print Shops

Over all I use this program 4-5 hours a day and it has made our shop more profitable and able to work with a smaller staff. I am the main user in our shop and while the learning curve from a very old 2006 desktop version to PSV was steep I mostly like the program and can quickly get done what I need. The old program I had to open multiple windows and drag & drop for bringing forward older jobs (more than one) into new jobs. Now we can import old jobs from any account using the add job window. I do wish there was more flexibility on packing lists for when we have split jobs. as it is I save as a PDF and edit the PDF to show what is actually delivering.

#### Ratings breakdown

- Ease of use: 4/5
- Value for money: 4/5
- Customer support: 3/5
- Functionality: 4/5

#### Pros

Having used PS for about 13 years I can say it has improved greatly over the years. I find it very functional and intuitive. I can take deposits, track orders and see our profitability. It is easy to do job builds and save presets. Looking up older orders and pulling them forward is very easy as well. I can take a job build and easily transfer to a different account for similar jobs. We have connected our PSV to SalesForce for sending out invoices, statements and following up on estimates. This has simply added to the functionality. We also have ShipExpress which allows us to ship right from an invoice and pull all the pricing into PSV as well as tracking numbers.

#### Cons

I am no a big fan of some updates made in version 7.0.0.6166. Most especially the number search bar at the top. This used to hold the number so if you typed in a number for an invoice but it was on the estimate selection you could just change the selection to invoice and hit search. Now if you click anywhere on the screen the number disappears and you have to retype it. Sounds like a small thing - and had it not worked beautifully before that maybe it wouldn't be so aggravating. Also when processing a credit card we would leave the invoice # in that bar so once processed we could click search and go right to the invoice to both verify and print a receipt (PSV won't connect to my printer for some reason for receipts). This version also has slowed down load time. We have 30 years of customer info in this program, since this upgrade it lags when loading account searches. Very annoying. Also issues connecting to Ship Express and losing printer specifications. Sometimes my notes disappear while saving. very annoying and time consuming when this happens. Sometimes it also happens when converting from an estimate to a job - but only on clients that have notes saved to pop into all tickets.

Overall I am pleased and grateful to have found Printsmith all those years ago. It has been an invaluable tool in bringing our Company from the age of hand written estimates, job tickets and invoices into the modern age of computers.

#### Ratings breakdown

- Ease of use: 5/5
- Value for money: 5/5
- Customer support: 5/5
- Functionality: 5/5

#### Pros

We have used Printsmith since 1997. Although there have been many updates and changes to the program, I have always found it invaluable in running our business. The ease at which you can create an estimate (utilizing comparable past jobs and estimates from any client account), seamless conversion to Job Ticket, Invoice and ultimately post to billing saves hours of work each week. Printsmith stores all of our Client Account History, allowing us to predict what our client base is likely to be ordering in any given month, and allowing us to them in advance to confirm upcoming orders. The built in accounting in Printsmith allows us to easily track profit and jobs won or lost, allowing us to print out comprehensive weekly and monthly close-outs that make the work for our Accounting Firm go off without a hitch.

#### Cons

I have no complaints about the system in general. When the purchased Program PRINTSMITH converted to on-line PRINTSMITH VISION, it was a learning curve that we managed to overcome and move forward with the help of the PrintSmith online support staff.

#### Ratings breakdown

I like the updates to the software after they've taken in suggestions and requests for changes. They actually listen to customer input and make changes based on the number of requests received.

#### Cons

The functionality is sometimes clunky and they way the paper is calculated is backwards. I don't like the up's/on's formula they use for calculating the number of pages on a stapled or glue bound books.

#### Reasons for choosing PrintSmith Vision

Familiarity and ease of use plus integration with PrintSpeak.

PrintSmith does estimating and job management quite well. Inventory has been recently implemented but we're finding as have others that it doesn't work properly yet. For what it is, it works better than lesser systems but it doesn't do everything needed.

#### Ratings breakdown

- Ease of use: 4/5
- Value for money: 3/5
- Customer support: 2/5
- Functionality: 2/5

#### Pros

It does what a small printshop needs to do - tracks information way better than doing so manually. Set up is fairly simple but takes some time to understand and become familiar with. In my years of working with many different EFI products (Hagen, Monarch, Epace, Printsmith) it's difficult to get someone on the phone who really understands printing and what is being asked. As an example - a field might be called something. If you need clarification about what's meant to go there, good luck. Representatives can parrot back the help screens or what's in a manual but if you want more actual help with how the system is used, an incident has to be escalated to get a programmer to contact you. After that, it takes a bit to get that person to really understand what you are trying to do because they often aren't USERS and/or are not users in a Print Production Operation.

#### Cons

Many of the features don't work as they are supposed to (inventory is one) - there is not an easy way to interface with EFI regarding the status of the software or bugs - one can log into a list serve and see the issues but who knows when something might work right. Before working at Ferris another company where I managed used PrintSmith as well. Similar issues. It does some things well, other things not. Some things that seem logical, it does not do - like a mechanism that offers discounts or credits on the cash register. There's no way to allow a receipt of a coupon or enter a discount without entering a job and going away from the cash register. Set up is fairly simple but takes some time to understand and become familiar with. In my years of working with many different EFI products (Hagen, Monarch, Epace, Printsmith) it's difficult to get someone on the phone who really understands printing and what is being asked. #### Reasons for choosing PrintSmith Vision

We purchased Digital Storefront years ago. Then we learned that DSF doesn't do the print management side (only the order entry side). So we had to purchase and implement PrintSmith to manage our business as we thought DSF did.

### Some honest thoughts about PrintSmith Vision from a longtime user

While PrintSmith Vision gets the job done, it can be an unpleasant experience. Printsmith Classic was a much better software and was incredibly fast. We could build quotes in real time while talking to a customer. Can't do that with Vision. It's too slow, unreliable and buggy. I hope this gets fixed in the new version.

#### Ratings breakdown

- Ease of use: 3/5
- Value for money: 3/5
- Customer support: 2/5
- Functionality: 3/5

#### Pros

It's the only software option available for the print industry that isn't outrageously priced. It does a good job of maintaining a database of clients, building quotes and managing projects.

#### Cons

This software is clunky, slow, and buggy. An unpleasant user experience and has always felt like a downgrade from PrintSmith Classic. Simple updates are a pain and we never receive notifications that there is a new update. PS Vision updates have never supported current operating systems, and are typically a few OS versions behind. EFI made the unfortunate decision to develop Vision in Flash which at the time everyone knew was losing support in favor of HTML5. This is most likely why it's so buggy. Hopefully they get the new version right but early versions of "Fast Track" leave me uneasy and lacking confidence because many important features we used in Classic and Vision are not available (for example dragging jobs and line items over from other invoices and estimates).

### EFI PrintSmith Vision is a key to our company's success

We started using PrintSmith Classic in 2001. A few years ago we switched to PrintSmith Vision. The way the programmers ported the functionality to a browser based version was nothing short of amazing. Then, they created a completely new user interface to run with HTML5, which is even easier to use, more powerful, and more responsive to the user. EFI support has been excellent.

#### Ratings breakdown

- Ease of use: 4/5
- Value for money: 5/5
- Customer support: 5/5
- Functionality: 5/5

#### Pros

PrintSmith Vision includes every element needed to manage our digital printing operation, including estimating, invoicing, stock management, scheduling, shipping and delivery, and more. I love the way we're able to prepare estimates quickly and easily, and then convert them into invoices for actual job production. Once you get good at using the software, you learn how to create estimates/invoices so they contain all of the information needed for: the invoice the customer sees; the job tickets that each department of your production staff sees; the info needed to order stock; the info needed to ship or deliver the job and create packing slips.

#### Cons

There's very little that I don't like about PrintSmith Vision. There is a lot to learn and setup, but that is because the software does so much.

Overall it has helped our business processes but it takes a lot of time to setup and manage. I wish more training was offered - I know we are only using some of the most basic features and at times we still feel like we are stumbling.

#### Pros

It's nice that we can price complex jobs fairly quickly once the system was set up.

#### Cons

The conversion to HTML (instead of Flash) has been very long, and we are still concerned about missing functions on the HTML side. It also takes a bit of time to go in and update pricing - could be much more user friendly especially for basic functions. Wish there were more standard reports available. We also purchased Digital StoreFront under the impression that the two systems would sync seamlessly, and this hasn't been the case. We have to manage complex pricing in both systems, which is a nightmare since the two use completely different pricing methodologies. One would assume that if you update a paper price in one system that you sync it with the other system automatically.

#### Reasons for switching to PrintSmith Vision

Limited capabilities of other estimating software.

we've had some bumpy rides starting up. The longer you work with the product and the upgrades are made the more comfortable you become. For a system at its price point the value is there. I think that most would pay just a bit more to have a bit more ease of use.

#### Pros

I appreciate that this product while it can stand alone and support a print shop. The most important thing about this software is that it integrates with MDSF which is our virtual print shop "front door".

#### Cons

My teams least favorite thing about the software is the limitations we have as it relates to making modifications for ease of use for an in Plant Operation.

#### Reasons for choosing PrintSmith Vision

We chose EFI Print Smith first because of the demo and ease of use for an established customer. Secondly because it was more inline with the price point we were looking for at the time based on the volume of business we were doing. Lastly becuase it intergrates with

We have had a great experience with EFI. The technical support team is very knowledgeable and helpful. They are a partner to your company and only a phone call away.

#### Pros

We love the account history feature. It is nice to be able to use the previous order to create the current one. It saves a lot of time!

#### Cons

We have had challenges with the updates. The software is on our server and it is more difficult to do than when we were using the Classic version.

#### Reasons for choosing PrintSmith Vision

With my years of experience, it was the right move. I couldn't see trying to learn another product and then realizing that I should have chosen Vision.

#### Reasons for switching to PrintSmith Vision

It was old and DOS based. I used Classic with 2 other printers. When I bought Daubenmires, they were using the DOS based system and only 1 person could write orders at one time. A HUGE time waster and had none of the great features that Vision has.
