SpamTitian Software


 

SpamTitan is a spam filtering solution that caters to businesses, managed service providers (MSPs) and schools and helps them to block spam, viruses, malware, ransomware, phishing attempts and other email threats. The solution can either be deployed on-premise or hosted in the cloud.

Key features include a spam blocker, anti-virus protection, whitelisting and blacklisting, email protection and more. The solution also provides email archiving. Its management overhead feature allows school and campus IT staff to manage email clients and protect email accounts from malicious attacks.

Additionally, SpamTitan lets users connect personal devices to the solution, and also offers a custom reporting engine that lets users generate reports on threat types and security trends. SpamTitan also supports integration with Google products.

Services are offered on a monthly or annual subscription basis that includes support via phone, email and online live chat.

Protection!

Pros

Set it and forget it. Notification email for users for spam review and release . Cloud based. Good support. Minimum administration. Very good protection against spam. Value for money.

Cons

Needs some configuring to get the best protections. Out of the box I think it is not optimal. You need to have basic IT skills to configure. Any problems support was there for help. Sometimes we have false positives. I would recommend private cloud solution option. Public cloud has less control.

the spam digest is really user-friendly. the initial configuration was very easy to deploy. Highly recommended

Cons

The outlook add-in doesn't seem to work predictably. I haven't had good success with manually adding senders to block via outlook

Runs in the background on the cloud. Daily digests only show new items. Has caught or blocked 99.9% of all spam since I signed up.

Cons

Not very customizable. The user interface is lacking. Takes a while to fine tune by white-listing all the false positives.

Immediate reduction of spam. Our McAfee went EOL, and the spam was getting ridiculous. After about three hours of research, I went with SpamTitan and have been happy with it for nearly a year now.

Pros

The price for our SMB was exceptional, and the flexibility for deployment was great as well. Spam was immediately lessened and reports went straight to my users' inboxes.

Cons

There was some confusion over lost emails and the amount of time taken to get through the spam filter.

Pros

I have not been able to install it so I have not been able to form any opinion - from the manuals it looks fine but as they won't tell me how to install I am stuck.

Cons

I could not install in an VMWare environment as I could not full details instructions for this as it presumed a level of knowledge of installing VMs in VMWare which I do not have. I will have to get in consultancy assistance. What is required is a specific VMWare install manual that gives full instructions presuming no knowledge rather than referring to it in other manuals.

Fewer spam and phishing emails getting through to end users. Resulting in fewer calls asking "should I open this email" or "I entered my password into a page from an email".
Environment is more secure with SpamTitan inplace.

Pros

Implementation was simple. We could get basic functionality during our trial with out much initial investment. The install and configuration of the virtual appliance took less than 30min and then a few minutes to redirect mail traffic through SpamTitan.
Rules are easy to setup and after the first couple of months the administration is negligible compared to the calls from end users "should I open this email? "

Cons

The content filtering rules don't end up in the same window as the automated quarantine. This can make it difficult to find and release mail that is improperly flagged due to a bad admin created rule.

Learned what other solutions may be viable that are less robust but may still work well.

Pros

Stellar tech support. The ability to have multiple domains on a private Amazon server. Creation of domain level rules. User specific reporting.

Cons

Complicated to setup and needs a lot of maintenance. If you are not used to setting up email servers this solution will give you problems. Level 3 tech support is available on via email and they seem a bit arrogant. Online user manuals are not well written.

The software works really well. The number of spam has changed significantly. There were no problems with switching to a new antispam system.

Cons

Once we got through the growing pains we don't have to field many helpdesk tickets from users getting use to this software coming from our previous spam filter. The other big benefit is that our previous spam filter service provider was about to double our yearly rate so your software ended up having a better spam detection rate and was also less expensive.

Pros

Easy to setup and maintain. The detection rate is fabulous. When we initially setup the software we were getting tons of false-positives but this subsided after several weeks of use after which time I assume the system started to pickup on the types of emails that we consider legit.

Cons

It would be better to have a more well rounded user portal. For those users with many false-positives in an email notice it would be good to have a way to release the emails without opening a web browser tab for each and every email to be released or at least bring the user to the portal login page so they can easily manage many releases if this is not possible through the email client. Not a big deal but it is a little annoying personally for me.

I believe in the beginning I was told that there was no user portal to then later find out that there was one. Not sure where the disconnect was but this feature ended up being quite crucial for the owner of the company I work for as he was used to working in the portal of our previous product (Barracuda).

The other problem that was noticed earlier on is that the daily summary emails would have these crazy ambiguous email addresses in them in the "From" field which I was told couldn't be modified. The owner of the company was very confused by this as the Barracuda would show us both the technical from address as well as what would normally appear in the mail client and would have more meaning to the end user and give them a better idea if the email was spam or not. I suggested at the time to the tech\sales person I was speaking with that this should be changed to at least show both "from" email address' so the end user is armed with more information to make an informed decision about the email being spam or not.

Pros

So easy to setup. Multiple domains is a breeze. There was no friction to getting it setup, domain added and email flowing.

Cons

I hate paying for SPAM filtering. Paying per mailbox/ per month is a drag. Small MSPs could use better pricing.

blocks what it needs to block

Pros

Easy to use I use this software daily. It does what it needs to do to get the job done. Every day this is used when adding emails and blocking stuff. You can see how much spam goes in and out of this program.

Cons

I don't see any cons to this program it is a very good program and does the job. The only thing that could be improved is maybe add more extentions to block.

Pros

We have been using Spam Titan for around six months. During this time, we have found the software to be extremely customisable. The ability to whitelist/blacklist at both a global level as well as a domain level is a great feature and is very easy to do. The history/reporting feature also stands out and gives you the ability to search for emails using a number of different fields. I have had experience contacting support via telephone as well as email and find them very friendly and always available to assist remotely and answer any questions.



Cons

The only feature that I think would be a great addition to the software would be the ability to add pattern filters at a domain level rather than just a global level.
