All the power of traditional data analysis software, but MUCH more user friendly

PROS

After using Minitab, SPSS, SAS and R for years Engineroom was a breath of fresh air. I've been using it for over 10 years now. No need to have a masters in statistics to correctly interpret the output of your statistical analysis and hypothesis tests, Engineroom does all that for you. All you need to do is read the conclusion in output, but it still provides all the detailed stats to support the conclusions. Importing data is also super simple and robust to different formats. It is fully aligned with PDCA, DMAIC and other process improvement methods.

CONS

There is nothing I dislike about Engineroom. The only feature/tool I would like to see added is Interval plots. Confidence Intervals and graphics have always been provided in the output from hypothesis tests, but it would be nice to be use them ad hoc.

Reasons for switching to EngineRoom

All the power of the other data analysis software, but MUCH more user friendly.

My most favorite analytical tool

This is a unique product that has improved the decision-making quality at my company. I highly recommend it.

PROS

It is so easy to use and the virtual coach is so helpful.

CONS

Nothing comes to mind. The company is so responsive if you have suggestions.

Reasons for switching to EngineRoom

Engine room is so much easier to use. The engine room is better suited for all of the functions of a company where Minitab only seems to be used in production environments.

All the required tools in one easy to use, collaborative, high value package!

Love it! Easy to use. Includes tutorials that are easy to follow. Meets all our needs for managing and analyzing problem solving activities. And a very cost-efficient price.

PROS

Ease of use when following structured problem-solving processes, DMAIC, PDCA, A3

CONS

Compared to other packages, really nothing

Reason for choosing EngineRoom

ER meets all our needs at a much lower price. ER works seamlessly with our Lean Six Sigma Belt training. ER works seamlessly with our project management platform, Traction.

Reasons for switching to EngineRoom

ER does everything needed from all the other products in one easy to use package.

Review of EngineRoom

Overall experience is average. It would be higher if data points of graphs can be exported such that graphs can be re-plotted according to company standards.

PROS

Relative ease of use and functionality.

CONS

The fact that one cannot export the data points of graphs into Excel or another drawing program to re-draw graphs neatly and professionally. Can only export graphs as pictures and cannot edit them after being exported. Do not like the quality of the graphs.

Vendor Response

Thank you for taking the time to review EngineRoom on Capterra. We've sent your feedback to our product manager and will look into how we can improve graphing. We always welcome feedback and suggestions, so please let us know if there's anything we can do to help you in the meantime. Thank you.

Great product that can service most if not all needs

Overall I am very satisfied with EngineRoom. It has all the tools that 95% of users and companies will need. The drag and drop nature of building the analysis is easy to teach and easy to see where mistakes were made. Outstanding product that gets better with each update.

PROS

EngineRoom has a low barrier to entry and its help features are outstanding. You can easily build data sets and perform analysis using their help functions. Another pro is that EngineRoom is regularly updated with improvements so it is becoming more capable over time.

CONS

It does only allow 1 person to work on a project at a given time. This for the most part is not an issue but when teaching or reviewing with someone remotely it makes it more difficult.

Reason for choosing EngineRoom

EngineRoom pairs very well with the Moresteam content and Minitab is much more expensive and has its own drawbacks. JMP's skill level required to use is much higher than EngineRoom

Take your process improvement to the next level

It hasn't been intuitive for me; however, persevering through the learning curve has made it my go-to application when faced with challenges greater than trivial. The MoreSteam team bends over backwards to provide support and opportunities to sharpen one's skills (I particularly appreciate "Modeling Mondays," short worked out examples of different Process Playground models featuring techniques for building specific functionalities). Overall, it's been a real find and a valuable addition to my bag of tricks.

PROS

I like three things about EngineRoom compared to other packages. First, it's a comprehensive set of process improvement tools all seamlessly integrated into one package. Second, it's well supported by on-demand tutorials and training webinars. Lastly, it includes Process Playground - a discrete event simulator useful in building a digital twin of your processes and systems. There are insights about your business you just can't gather any other way.

CONS

There's a pretty steep learning curve to understanding how all the bits and pieces work together. In addition, becoming competent with Process Playground requires an intermediate level of familiarity with statistical distributions and systems engineering concepts. This is not to say it's out of reach for the casual user; however, you have to really want it.

Reasons for switching to EngineRoom

Price, ease of use, steepness and length of the learning curve, and integration with other Lean SixSigma tools for a complete package.

Overall use of EngineRoom

Very good. Especially the Technical support.

PROS

EngineRoom is specifically designed for Six Sigma and more. This makes using the software easy to lecture and train.

CONS

Actually nothing. In the beginning of 2019, I started using EngineRoom and found that there were a few thigs EngineRoom did not provide e.g., Response Optimiser etc. However, in the 5 years I've been using the EngineRoom the software has developed very well.

Reasons for switching to EngineRoom

Cost. The MiniTab cost became inaccessible for individuals, and I had to pay the students price even though I was bringing up to 30 students a year to MiniTab.

Valuable tool for in depth statistical analysis and visualization

EngineRoom has come a long way since I began using it. MoreSteam is very serious about feedback and incorporates improvements continually. It's the perfect application for Green Belt candidates to learn about statistical analysis.

PROS

It's built to walk you through what data is needed for each tool. It has extensive capabilities, typically more than I need for the type of analysis I'm doing but I love knowing I have all the different options. It's much more powerful than typical stat package add-ons to programs like Excel.

CONS

It can be difficult to learn initially as certain things aren't the most intuitive. However, once you learn to navigate EngineRoom I find it quite user-friendly.

Reasons for switching to EngineRoom

EngineRoom included a lot more tools that fit in the Green Belt curriculum.

I've switched to Engineroom after being a 25 year user of Minitab

I've been doing operational excellence/process improvement work for over 20 years. Like most with a Lean Six Sigma background, I learned using Minitab. I was introduced to EngineRoom when a client used MoreSteam's other products and have been using both Minitab and EngineRoom for years side by side depending on what my clients use. For new and experienced users, EngineRoom is just better from a cost, feature, ease of use, quality of output standpoint.

PROS

- Conclusions for many of statistical tests like hypothesis testing are written out in plain language (Reject/Fail to Reject Null hypothesis) with the statistical results (p values) so it confirms what you think the conclusion should be. THIS IS A HUGE PLUS in case you haven't run the tool in a while or are a new user learning the tool for the first time. Minitab assistant menu has some of this but not enough -Similarly, it helps check the assumptions about the data being used for the study as part of the analysis. - Comprehensive suite of graphical, statistical, process mapping, process modeling tools all in one - Well suited to process improvement and process re-design work - A LOT less expensive than Minitab - Very responsive to changes, questions, suggestions about new tools and features

CONS

- Not really a con- but the interface uses a drag and drop method to add your data to the study/graph/analysis versus finding the column of data in a list and double clicking to add it. If you know that going in, then its intuitive and the tutorials are excellent. - As a Master Blackbelt, I use higher level tools like Response Surface Methods occasionally and those tools aren't in EngineRoom yet (but are slated for release soon)

One Stop Shop for Process Improvement

PROS

I love how EngineRoom brings together all the essential tools for Lean Six Sigma projects. Instead of using a software package for statistical analysis, one for process mapping, one for graphical analysis, one for building simulation models, and various other spreadsheets and templates in Word, Excel, etc. - EngineRoom has it in one package. The user interface is very simple to learn and teach, with a plethora of help files and video walkthroughs. Customer support is fast, friendly and extremely competent - not just on software, but process improvement as well - so when you need help, you are working with people who speak Lean Six Sigma language and understand where you are coming from. I could go on and on about the value of this product, but for the low price - it is worth purchasing just to try it - my bet is that you'll never switch to something else.

CONS

The data sheets do not have the formula functionality of Microsoft Excel, so some data formatting and scrubbing is easier outside of EngineRoom, prior to uploading. Considering everything that EngineRoom does so well, I am ok with this limited functionality. That being said, it seems there are enhancements being rolled out nearly every time I log so I know they are constantly enhancing the software.

Engine Room Review

PROS

I like the improvements they've made with EngineRoom. It is really user friendly, and aids in displaying information in a wide variety of ways.

CONS

the all-in-one solution for continuos improvement engineering data analysis and diagraming

Great. Easy to use Inexpensive As a SAAS solution, I can use it from any PC or MAC, anywhere.

PROS

It is an all-in-one toolbox ideal for continuous improvement professionals, quality engineers, or process analysts. Statistical tools + process diagraming + simulation You can access: 1- Process diagraming tools, such as SIPOC, VSM, flowcharts 2- Idea visualization tools such as affinity diagrams, CTQC, Fishbone diagrams, and more 3- It has a full set of statistical tools from frequentist parametric tools to non-parametric tolls, plus applied stats tools (control charts, gage R&R, capability analysis, and more) 4- It has a Montecarlo simulation section and a DES section called Process Playground for discrete simulation.

CONS

As a continuous improvement geek, I would like to see more and more tools. I expected the product to keep adding more features in terms of quality engineering specific tools, and Machine Learning no-code algorithm such as gradient boosting or random forrest.

Love the Process Modeling

I'm pretty happy with EngineRoom. While I only use a few of the tools it performs well for what I need it for. I utilize it for data analysis and process work. I've been able to use a few other items like the affinity diagrams and raci matrix to help inform my team, but the powerhouse of the software is for sure in the statistics tools and process mapping. The regular improvements and updates made to the software are also impressive. I like not having to download new versions all the time.

PROS

My favorite, and arguably one of the most valuable aspects to EngineRoom, is Process Playground. The Process Modeling and Mapping software is really helpful in being able to map out processes, breakdown customer flow, and understand the supply and demand needed in given areas. Being able to visualize process problems really helped us anticipate our needs better.

CONS

I think some of the dashboard areas could be enhanced. The Data sidebar can get messy with too many data sources. I like that I can put projects into folders, I would like to be able to do that for data sources as well.

Reason for choosing EngineRoom

I had experience with both EngineRoom and Excel and I needed the process mapping and discrete event simulations for setting up models.

PROS

User-friendly menus and tools, interpretation of results, and easy-to-read graphical output. EngineRoom strikes just the right balance of practical application and theory for project managers.

CONS

Two things only: Building a new DOE using existing data is challenging. And sharing files including output with others is difficult.

Reasons for switching to EngineRoom

Compatibility with the Moresteam eLearning material.

Best of the best

PROS

ER is by far one of the better tools. Cost point, ease of use, adoption, and output analysis make it a perfect fit for anyone looking for a software package. Not only the tool but the support team is exceptional. I highly recommend it. I've been on board since it's early days and have seen super improvements over the years. [sensitive content hidden] and his team are top notch!

CONS

Nothing. All good! There are no cons from my point of view.

Reasons for switching to EngineRoom

Cost. Minitab is a fine tool but out of reach for my small business.

Great for classroom use teaching students lean

My overall experience is excellent and I appreciate how the practice what they preach in continuously improving the product and providing super user support.

PROS

The mix of statistical and descriptive, lean six sigma team-centric tools sorted into DMAIC phases makes EngineRoom conceptually easy for students to use in learning how to move through an improvement project.

CONS

I wish it had more "example" analyses, outputs, inputs, and interpretations that I could follow or share with students embedded within a click of first opening the tool.

PROS

Ease of use and tracking the analysis that has been done.

CONS

I am not sure what this really means. As long as I get the result, I am looking for there really isn't a reason to create a hierarchy of likes and dislikes.

Reasons for switching to EngineRoom

I would have switched but in a consulting role we have to follow the customers selection. We are having more customer choosing to use EngineRoom which results in our team use it more frequently.
