Reliable and easy to use

We use it extensively to stream weekly tutorials, as well as live feed conferences and events. Overall, our experience has been very positive and you can quickly talk to a real persona if you get stuck or something´s not working.

PROS

Dacast is a solid streaming platform backed by an excellent support team which have helped me sort out configuration and integration into our e-learning platforms. I also like the fact that it´s highly customizable and integrates well into OBS studio and HTML pages, as well as Facebook. All in all, the quality/value for money ratio is well worth it.

CONS

The latency is annoying (can be up to 15 secondes) and the upgrade payment to eliminate it is really too expensive.

Reasons for switching to Dacast

Not flexible and interrupted by ads.

Vendor Response

Hi John! Thanks a lot for your comments, we take the point on the pricing. We are always trying to find cheaper solutions to put on the market, we will announce it if we have anything new on this!

A Little Rough Around the Edges, but Fantastic Value for Money

Dacast helps our team keep focus and lets us fully control our content, while keeping videos private and only accessible to our team. I've been quiet pleased with how seamlessly we were able to integrate it into our training materials in the place of YouTube.

PROS

Dacast is a great platform for hosting and live streaming videos. You can control the style of the video player without any third party branding or recommended videos like YouTube has. It creates a lot more streamlined and focused viewing experience for employee training videos.

CONS

The overall polish of Dacast could be improved. Changes to video info isn't always saved the first time. Uploads don't always finish uploading the first time. Processing to full HD quality can take a while too. The product works well overall, but it could use that extra bit of fine tuning.

Reason for choosing Dacast

Brightcove had some better and easier to use features, but the price tag was outrageous, at least for a company of our size.

Reasons for switching to Dacast

Purely as a video streaming platform, YouTube is great. But there are so many extra bells and whistles (ads, recommended videos, auto-playing videos, YouTube branding) that distract and, on occasion, offend our employees. Some recommended videos on the side can be pretty messed up. None of that is an issue with Dacast.

Empty promises with quick support

Overall, I wish I'd selected another platform Honestly, the amount of time and effort spent in figuring out the bugs I described above was not worth it. I have about 2000 people that are actively using the platform I build and they trust me to give them a reliable way to stream live classes (dance classes) and record them for later viewing, and I feel I've let them down choosing DaCast I do not recommend DaCast to anyone

PROS

They don't make you pay for a full year and the price is a bit lower compared with vimeo and some other platforms i checked. Fast response support (not good, but fast)

CONS

Features don't work!! 1. Analytics - does not work at all (support: "as soon as it works we will notify you") 2. VOD - recorded live streams have multiple 'holes' in them, most recordings have 10-20 minute holes missing in the recording!! Also, one of the recordings was corrupted after about 5 minutes in the stream, so 1.2 hour video = trashed. 3. LiveStreams - a huge bug in the token refreshing within the player, making anyone who views the stream refresh the browser every 6 minutes (as it stops the stream) 4. Support - the support is a fast-response-low-on-knowledge kind of support. The more knowing people are not responding at all (been 3 weeks with no response) 5. They have lots of articles that seem like someone who knows a thing or two about streaming wrote, that was mostly the reason I decided to invest my time in DaCast, it seemed promising (but only promising, no results)

Reason for choosing Dacast

mostly pricing options and good articles

Dacast meets our small business needs

Our clients aren't made of money, so we needed a streaming platform that would allow us to stream community/local events and not lose money on the deal. Customer service is good. The platform is not super polished compared to some competitors, but we've seen many improvements over the last 2 years.

PROS

We needed a simple and affordable platform for live streaming events. While Dacast isn't perfect, the streams are reliable and that is very important to us. There is not much else to say, it meets our needs!

CONS

Connection times to viewers to the streams have been long (30 seconds to minutes to connect) even with the most recent update to their platform. Reviewing data for how many viewers watched each event is clumsy, especially when we have back-to-back events on the same channel, but still want to see the data separated. Splash screens take a long time to load on the streaming pages. Backoffice tasks can be accidently missed because each section of settings requires you to press a save button at the bottom of the page. Subscription details aren't explain very well, for example if you purchase a certain package you get data but it's parcelled out over the year, not given to you all at once to use. This results in overage charges but fortunately you can enable protection to add data automatically when you run out so your streams never go down.

Reason for choosing Dacast

Mainly price, as well as lack of certain features that could negatively impact our stream. For example, if copyrighted music plays (accidentally, or even in the case your client has purchased the rights to use the music) in the background of some platforms they will shut your stream down leaving you and your clients in a difficult position.

Reasons for switching to Dacast

StreamVu switched to focusing on educational platforms, they are an amazing company otherwise and a super friendly bunch of people.

Solid Church Live Stream Platform

Excellent reliability. Been streaming with Dacast for sever years now and never had a failure. Solid, reliable streaming every time

PROS

Dacast gives us all we need to live stream our services at a competetive price. We're not a huge ministry so price is important to us, and other providers don't seem to get that and offer such competetive rates for small users who want to grow

CONS

The customised OBS version needs updating. You don't have to use it, but it's a good option for new starters

Reason for choosing Dacast

We looked at many other options

Reasons for switching to Dacast

Because they got rid of their free option and the cheapest entry-level paid offering was way too big and costly for our needs
