This trial provides full access to premium features without requiring payment information or setting up auto-charges. After the trial period, users can choose to upgrade to a paid plan or continue with the free plan indefinitely. \*\*Payment options\*\* Hotjar accepts payments in USD and offers both monthly and annual billing cycles. Opting for annual billing provides a ~20% discount across all paid plans. Additionally, Hotjar offers a 30-day money-back guarantee for all Growth plans, allowing users to request a full refund within the first month if they're not satisfied with the service. \*\*Conclusion\*\* After analyzing Hotjar's pricing structure, it's clear that the company offers a range of options designed to accommodate various website sizes, analytics needs, and budgets. - \*\*For individuals and small websites:\*\* The Free plan provides an excellent entry point at no cost. It offers core functionality, such as session replay and unlimited heatmaps, that can deliver valuable insights into user behavior. While limited by the 20,000 monthly session cap and one-month data retention, it's more than sufficient for small websites and those just beginning their user experience optimization journey. - \*\*For growing businesses:\*\* The Growth plan at $49 per month (or $40 with annual billing) strikes a balance between affordability and functionality. It offers increased session capacity and data retention, making it suitable for businesses that have outgrown the free plan but don't yet need enterprise-level features. - \*\*For established businesses:\*\* The Pro plan provides advanced analytics capabilities and supports higher traffic volumes. This plan is ideal for organizations that rely heavily on website performance and need deeper insights into user behavior to optimize conversion rates. - \*\*For large enterprises:\*\* The Enterprise plan delivers the complete Hotjar experience with premium features and maximum data retention. This plan is best suited for high-traffic websites and organizations with dedicated analytics teams that can fully leverage the advanced capabilities. When selecting a Hotjar plan, consider your website's monthly traffic volume, how long you need to retain data for analysis, the complexity of insights you require, and your available budget. The 15-day free trial offers an excellent opportunity to test Hotjar's premium features before committing to a paid plan. Additionally, the annual billing option provides significant savings for organizations planning long-term use of the platform.

Pros:

It is very simple, it works exactly as you expect it to, it is easy to set up and configure, and WOW is it ever powerful. It is literally like someone turning a light on when you are doing conversion rate optimization work. No more guessing. Now you can study user behavior and see EXACTLY how they are responding to your designs, UI/UX and interfaces. We have literally made MILLIONS of extra dollars once we started using Hotjar.

Cons:

There is little we don't like about Hotjar. It just works (and it is easy to use).

Reasons for choosing Hotjar

Hotjar had more features, tons of good reviews, and we had several word of mouth recommendations that was the way to go. We thought it had much more to offer than Smartlook.

Pros:

At each company that I have worked for, I always bring up HotJar as a solution they should implement as soon as possible. It is so easy to use and allows for such a comprehensive view of the customer experience that it's a loss to NOT use it! I love that it can capture click data, scroll depth, and even user interactions on the website. There is so much valuable information to be pulled from the data!

Cons:

There are two things that I'm a little bummed out about with HotJar. One issue is that they recently removed cross-domain tracking. This was a great benefit and we used it often, so not having it is tough. They also have a limit on the height of the pages that can be captured, 1500px. Our pages are slightly larger so we lose some detail on the report that we would have otherwise had.

Reasons for choosing Hotjar

Primarily I was familiar with HotJar so it was an easy choice.

Vendor Response

Hey Akande, Thanks so much for taking the time to review Hotjar! It's great to read that you're getting a lot of value from the tool :) It's indeed the case that we removed cross-domain tracking in light of our continued commitment to privacy-by-design. I'm sorry to hear that working with the tool is a bit tough without this - we'd like to help if we can! Do reach out to us at support@hotjar.com if you've got questions. Following up your note on the height of captured pages for Heatmaps - we do have a 15000px limit, but if it's a pain point I'd definitely suggest using the Suggest a Feature function in-app to let us know what you need :) All best, Alex

Optimize the UX of your website with Hotjar

Undoubtedly, Hotjar is a must-have tool to perform qualitative research on your website visitors so that you can improve the user experience. It will allow you the opportunity to further analyze the data of google analytics. With so many excellent features this popular tool will help you to do basic and effective research on your website. I would like to recommend Hotjar to anyone as it is so simple to use and the return on investment is also quite impressive.

Functionality

Pros:

There is no denying the fact that Hotjar comes with some excellent and cool features to give you a great level of flexibility when it comes to the analysis of user behavior. Especially, the heatmapping feature of this tool will help you with user behavior analysis. Needless to say, setting up a heatmap is quite easy and it will also save you time. When you talk about visitor’s analysis of any website, pulling information from data is important. And Hotjar comes in handy at this point as it can capture click data, scroll depth, etc. on your site. On top of that, the customer experience you’ll get from Hotjar is amazing.

Cons:

As per the rules of nature, Hotjar is also not out of disadvantages. It has some cons as well. It doesn’t show data of text fields as per guidelines of GDRP. Another point, I want to mention here is with the angular Js website, the form system of Hotjar doesn’t work which is a great disadvantage for me.

Reasons for choosing Hotjar

Undoubtedly, Crazy Egg is also a great tool to serve my purpose. But, I chose Hotjar over it as I knew Hotjar from a long-ago even before I came to know about Crazy Egg.

Functionality

Pros:

The surveys are what we use most to get insight into what our users are after, issues they may have, and to get ideas for content.

Cons:

Nothing really. It suits the purpose of a value-based beginner UX/CRO tool. For the price it does exactly what I need it for.

Reasons for switching to Hotjar

We used VWO for everything CRO related in the beginning and then decided to break it up as different products were better suited for different tasks.

Pros:

Hotjar is very intuitive and easy-to-use for both website heat maps and website sessions recording, they also offers an amazing knowledge base to help users maximizing the benefits of Hotjar.

Cons:

The pricing is a little bet expensive and the plus plan offers access to 100 daily sessions only, I think it should be increased to be 300 at least.

Reasons for switching to Hotjar

Hotjar offers more than Heatmaps and scroll maps.

Hotjar is great for website heat maps

The ability to know where your users spend time on was a real eye opener, and Hotjar made it not only possible but easy for us to do when we used it on a Shopify website.

Pros:

Hotjar was the first website heat map tool we've used, and it revealed a great deal about user behaviour without needing a great deal of set up. It was easy to learn and use.

Cons:

At the time we trialled it, a few years ago now, there was a noticeable impact on our page load speed.

Great information gathering tool with some drawbacks.

Hotjar is a useful tool to use in bursts in order to get really useful data, but it's not a "set it, and forget it" type of tool. There are downsides to leaving it turned on.

Functionality

Pros:

Hotjar lets us really see where our customers are going and doing on our website instead of just following the trail after the fact with typical analytics. We've gotten so much great insight into the flow of our site and even identified some issues on some mobile phones.

Cons:

Hotjar adds a lot of overhead to the website. Load times slowed a little bit, and ad blockers started making our site respond weirdly. Users of our website didn't really know what the feedback button was for and started using it as a review of our services, not the site itself. Additionally, javascript makes the viewing of a page obscured, so we don't know what the user is doing within a dynamic piece of content.
