Future is here

BIM will certainly change the construction industry in ways we cannot fully appreciate yet. Revit is of the best solutions that are pushing this revolution forward.

PROS

- Game-changing and full-featured building BIM design software (Building Information Modeling) - Simplified the design process beyond belief from the days of AutoCAD - Quantity take-offs are now byproducts of the building model, not a separate business process. - With BIM (Not only Revit) the plans, sections and quantity take-offs are all dynamically related. Any change to one of them is immediately reflected on the others - Works well for Architectural, Structural, HVAC, and MEP modeling. - Easy to use yet very capable. - Seamless integration with other Autodesk solutions (NavisWorsk, Robot .. etc.) - Plenty of training resources online.

CONS

- The price is too steep for companies in developing countries especially since it uses an annual subscription for each user.

Reasons for switching to Revit

I still use AutoCAD for sketching but for anything new which matters, Revit is the way forward. BIM is the way forward and after using Revit for 5 minutes anyone would realize that.

Revit is great!

Good and bad. Good in that after two weeks of using Revit I did NOT want to use AutoCAD ever again. Bad in that getting our users to make the switch has taken time and resources. Figure on about 1-2 years to fully move from AutoCAD to Revit. The move is worth it, though.

PROS

The term "One source of truth" describes Revit well. You can produce hundreds of drawings from one 3D model. Change any drawing or the model and every drawing reflects that change. In AutoCAD, you would have to open up several drawings to make those changes. Revit, you change something in one place and you're done. Likewise we love the database Revit is. You can include any amount of information in your model that you want and present that information in schedules.

CONS

Moving from AutoCAD to Revit can be difficult and frustrating for many people. Revit is a very complex software and takes a while to learn but it is well worth the pain. Some of the best benefits like changing something in one spot can also be a curse because it may have unintended consequences in other views, but that's just something you get used to and learn to resolve.

Reasons for switching to Revit

The world is moving from CAD to BIM just as it moved from paper drafting to CAD 30 years ago. If you want to remain competitive, you need to move to BIM and Revit is the current leader in BIM.

Hard to use electrically

Overall Revit is a great program that is an essential tool in the MEP industry. Any time I start a new project I hope that the arch is using Revit over autocad

PROS

Overall revit has alot of good features for integrating engineering systems with a project. having families link between arch/mech/plbg/fp/elec models and have parameters that interact with each other helps to maintain consistent coordination.

CONS

Electrically revit seems to lag behind quite a bit. Lighting design is still quite difficult to implement in a model. Quite frequently electrically you have to work against revit to get the proper info to show up which can be frustrating. i hope new systems to help display lighting controls are implemented.

Revit review

My experience has been very good, it is a modern BIM authoring software and deploying this across our organization has been reasonably easy with training. Once users start using it they do not want to go back to 2D ways of working.

PROS

This BIM authoring software works very well against modern AEC information production and management. The software benefits from many plugins and integrations to help with this as well. Dynamo integration is very helpful to automate and speed up information production and management.

CONS

Very expensive and the subscription model means that each year prices increase by around 5%. Autodesk has also been criticized for not developing the software adequately, especially in light of the price increases. Once you are in the software it is hard to move away.

Reason for choosing Revit

Integration across consultants, experience in house and long term planning

Reasons for switching to Revit

Vectorworks was not a good enough tool for complex BIM Authoring.

Become a self taught Architect!

I have used Revit for 3+ years and I have loved it. I have designed and built many projects in it. I have built many .rvt files using AutoCAD and then imported it into Revit to build a detailed model. Then I have used the same model for energy analysis using add ons. You can perform life cycle cost analysis, lighting analysis, solar analysis and energy analysis using Revit. all you need to know is the science behind using the technique.

PROS

Revit is one of the most versatile building design and modeling software. It can literally design any kind of building infrastructure with the same precision as an architect does. Revit is the foundational software for Building Information Modelling. It provides us features like parametric modeling and smart object import. It basically reduces all the repetitive drafting work in building design. It provides features and a basis for Performance analysis.

CONS

When it comes to creating a complex geometrical model or any model with lots of curves, Revit handling becomes difficult. Using Revit for complex shape modeling is difficult. Revit does not support high end, performance analysis tools. lt has its own add ons which do not give accurate and precise results. You need to export the model to any other software and perform the energy analysis.

Reason for choosing Revit

Parametric Modelling capacity, Performace analysis capability, ease of access, BIM platform

The key to get into 3D modeling era.

Overall I hightly recommend to purchase revit if u are in construction business. This software is cost effective and less time consuming interms of creating 3d models. This is a visually appealing software to work with.

PROS

My construction firm uses revit as a standard software for 3d modeling and interior designing for more than 2 years. Our company strongly believe in keeping up with the latest technology as a strategy to stay solid in this competitive business. For that revit itself has evolved alot during this two years. I feel rivit is a must know software for any architect, civil engineer or an interior designer. The best part using revit is u can give attention to each and every element individually with more care which will make a huge difference inthe final output. The inbuilt library feature is large and requires some time to master in it.this product can be integrated with Autodesk recap,3D max, sketchup,Autodesk cloud..etc. from the root level of a design to validating a design revit can be used without a question with industry standards.above all revit not only satisfies the user but also the client .

CONS

Honestly revit has nothing much to worry as a basic 3d modeling software, but it of course requires some time to master but at the end of the day its worthy. And also it demands a computer with high functioning capability. And also I have noticed that we can not input any pdf formets into it. And there is no reterograde compatibility since the older version had no cloud feature. As my last point revit predominantly focuses on structural elements only I wish if this improves further to help the designers as well.

Reason for choosing Revit

We chose revit because of its advancements and the ability to give special attention to individual elements of a design model. And also it has good reviews from the users compared to other softwares that we encountered.

Reasons for switching to Revit

We switched from Autocad because autocad mainly focuses on 2d designs. The world is changing so we have to keep up with the new advancements.and also from my personal experience revit is more effective and more sensible to use.

Efficient and reliable software as an Architect.

A solid contender to other Architecture software. Well built up software!

PROS

Its features and solid layout. It shows that a lot of attention has been given to the development of the software.

CONS

It could be improved upon in the early sketch phase. Its complexity and feature sets also makes it less unobtrusive of the early design stages.

Reasons for switching to Revit

Due to collaboration purposes. Easy synchronization across professional fields.

Forever Revit

This was the most fun, it was very enjoyable and I remember asking myself why I didn't just trust my inner hunch and learn how to use this software earlier on in my life? Oh well... better late than never right...lol.

PROS

Right away I saw that this tool was more purpose-based than all the other tools I've used before which were more broad-based, so I was really happy with that. Another thing I noticed was that Revit mimics real life building elements in a smart, geometric way, it does automatic calculations and schedules plus it reduces the possibility of creating human errors. Multiple users can use the same file at the same time. This software is just simply GOLDEN!!

CONS

I did feel at first like I bit off way more than I could chew on but as the weeks progressed, I couldn't wait to dive in and learn something new about it because when it started to gradually make sense to me, there was no looking back after that. Revit was all I needed from then onwards.

Reason for choosing Revit

Revit was always the end-goal for me. I needed to familiarize myself with a more broad-based software that would teach me the jargon and technical requirements needed to use it with confidence.

Reasons for switching to Revit

I had become fluent in AutoCAD and needed a new challenge, this is why I made the switch and I'm so glad that I did.

Very good design software

Its exactly 2 years that I use revit for my bridge and road projects

PROS

Révit is for the best in all the 3d design of bridges and roads. Easily adaptable for bridge and pavement engineers and what makes it exceptional is the fact that you can import a bridge designed on Infrawork to relive without worry; it adheres easily

CONS

Revit is very very complex to use unlike other 3D design software and 2D revit is too hard to master. It takes a lot of training time to master this software

Reason for choosing Revit

I opted to relive because despite its complexity to use it remains the best for road projects especially

Revit is Great, but pricey

For architecture, Can’t beat it, but I in occasionally find the need to return to Inventor for things Revit can’t do.

PROS

We deal with Rails on a weekly basis. And this software has modifiable rail and rail systems as well as stair systems. I think that Awsome. Creating a home mockup for visual purposes for clients takes less than an hour. Love it.

CONS

I absolute loathe that for how advanced the software is to build a home, it stinks to be able to make components. You can’t treat families as components. The ability’s to customize them just aren’t there, it wasn’t what Revit was made for, although I wish it would.

Reason for choosing Revit

Revit BIM abilities were advanced. And manufacturers are marketing 3D BIM products downloadable to Revit. Makes drafting that much faster if I don’t have to design a part!

Reasons for switching to Revit

I need to be able to 3D a home quickly, and I couldn’t do that easily with AutoCad.

Agrxis Review on Revit

My overall impression of Revit has been quite excellent. It is a really helpful tool for creating and modeling building structures, in my experience as an architect. The software is simple to use and intuitive, making it simple to create 2D and 3D graphics. The program has an incredible array of features and capabilities that give the design process a great deal of flexibility.Having said that, there have been instances where I've thought some aspects were underdeveloped or challenging to utilize. For instance, I would like to see additional customization possibilities in some of the annotation tools. The program can also be fairly resource-intensive, which might affect how well it performs on PCs with less horsepower.Despite these minor drawbacks, I consider Revit to be a vital tool for my job and would strongly advise other architects and designers to do the same. I was able to develop more precise and thorough models of my projects with the aid of the program, which has greatly expedited many areas of the design process. Overall, I have had a great experience working with Revit.

PROS

Because Revit has such strong 3D modeling features, I really liked using it. I can make intricate building models with the software, and I can view them accurately and realistically. I also value having access to such a large collection of pre-made components and having the freedom to design my own unique elements.Additionally, Revit's collaboration tools are quite useful because they let numerous team members work on the same model at once and quickly communicate updates and changes. The excellent annotation capabilities in Revit make it simple to provide thorough annotations and dimensions in my drawings.Overall, Revit has exceeded my expectations, and I heartily endorse it to anyone working in the design or construction sectors who is searching for a robust and user-friendly 3D modeling program.

CONS

I have used Revit and have come across some features that I believe should be enhanced. For instance, I occasionally discover that the rendering capabilities are constrained and that it can be challenging to create my 3D models with the desired level of detail. Furthermore, although the software provides a variety of tools for annotations and documentation, I occasionally find these tools to be challenging to use successfully.

Best BIM software for Architects and Engineers (students as well)

It is lovely! Tried several other products and this is still the easiest to use and my favorite. Still use it till date and don’t think I am gonna stop anytime soon as long as I am practicing architecture.

PROS

Revit is one of the best and easy BIM software one can easily get started on. The features are easy to learn how to use. I love the fact it is easy to bring in other file types like cad files, pdfs, images and you can also export in so many different formats. Revit makes team work easy with the work sharing feature and the fact it allows for so many other professions like civil engineers, electrical to be able to carry out their own works on it as well. It is one of the best platform that works with so many other softwares easily like sketchup, rhinoceros and grasshopper, 3dmax, vray, enscape. It also has it's own simple in built rendering software. Revit considers educators and students and let them have access to the softwares for free!

CONS

Although really good, revit does not allow for newer versions of the software to open files from older versions except if the file is upgraded to the new version which sometimes data can be lost. You can't open newer files in older versions and there is no option for a downgrade like the upgrade. Also, the cost of the software is high. As much as they offer it free for students and educators, if you don't fall in this category it can be quite expensive to purchase especially for those who probably don't earn a lot.

Reasons for switching to Revit

Cause I found revit easier!

Best BIM Product

I have been using Revit since last 3 years for modeling MEP services, producing shop drawings and quality take off. I use Revit to create a model which is used for clash coordination review in Navisworks. Revit saves lots of time in compare with other software as has many time saving and automation features.

PROS

It is the best drafting and 3D modeling software that I have used so far which have great features. The best part is that it is a multi user worksharing software by the help of which your whole team can work on a single project. You just need to save the file as central file. You can make a template and save it and use it anytime when your start a protect so that you not need to set the project standards like text font, leaders, dimensions style, layout etc each time. Just you can open the template and start working. Last but not the list, revit allows you to create different parameter for the object that helps to add necessary information of the object. The information provided can be extracted by help of scheduling. I will highly recommend to start practicing this software as it is going to be the future of AEC industry.

CONS

The only cons I have got about Revit is the it uses a lot of memory to run smoothly. One can only use Revit in effectively and smoothly if he/she have high configuration systems.

Revit is the future

Revit handles 3D better than its competitors Whether it's a plan, section, facade, perspective or 3D section, Revit can handle everything. It is very simple to create, for example, levels (floor, roof, ...), draw axes (future walls) without risk of error. Revit is used by architects and all other areas of construction to reduce design and maintenance risks. It also allows you to anticipate project performance even before construction begins, to create better quality concepts and to improve delivery conditions. No matter how complex a project is, Revit can manage your entire design from start to finish.

PROS

Revit is a BIM (Building Information Modeling) software, which allows you to model a building's data in 3D. Revit works in plan, section, facade, perspective, orthogonal view, 3D section and bill of materials. Revit: The World Reference in Data Modeling Revit is a tool that allows you to document a building from its virtual conception to its maintenance, once completed. The function of the Revit BIM tool is twofold: centralizing the data relating to the entire building, as well as the geometric and non-geometric design. Revit reduces modeling time because making changes is very simple. The software takes its name from this idea ("Revise-It"). Revit also uses "families" that can be downloaded to model a building more quickly. Families are collections of objects (furniture, lights, heaters, etc.), and textures that will feed the architectural project. Revit adds standard textures allowing you to render faster and make changes later.

CONS

It has usability considered complex, especially for designers with little technological affinity.

Revit excels at creating both 2D and 3D designs, as well as modaling and beautiful perspective rende

This program is using by large, developed companies, and there is a strong market demand for it among construction companies. Because of my expertise of it, it brought me a lot of money and saved us time and effort. I counsel every pioneer in this subject to learn and used it.

PROS

The Autodesk Revit program is a 3D design tool that is vital to the collaboration between engineers with different structural, architectural, mechanical, electrical, and sanitary specialties. As a result, there is a high level of coordination in the work and fewer mistakes because of early project teamwork. It is one of the most significant applications of Building Information Modeling (BIM), where construction engineers can enter realistic properties of objects and simulate how they interact with one another before actually implementing them. It is a sophisticated way to create models from buildings and structures that are completely similar to reality. Revit the best yet the worst!

Overaly, its a good software. its just too bulky, and too difficult to learn, and the UI is too old school. other than that , it does deliver

PROS

Revit provides a platform were different diciplines in contruction can work together simultaneously i.e an architect and an enigineer dont need to change softwares to wokr on rhe same project , everything all of then need is in the software . 2. Revit is morden, and provides all necesary tools for a morden architect, engineer or designer. 3. Of all BIM software , revit has the most support from different partners. it has the largest stick of assets on the market

CONS

1. its too bulky. 2. It has the stepest learning curve 3. the user interface is a mess, it still resembles ancient softwares like autocard. Archicad is more morden and easy to use compared to revit 4. the controls in the software are quite a work around

Revit is awesome!

Overall Revit is awesome to use and I enjoy using it every day. With great Autodesk help support and an active online community, you can always find solutions to any issue you may have. I have been recommending Revit to colleagues every chance I get.

PROS

I love that Revit is fully 3D. You can see your model being created as you draw and change anything you don't like. You can get quantities immediately and they are updated in real time. You can easily add new components with just a few clicks. Changing wall types and styles is just a few clicks and all views are updated immediately. You won't have to make the change in section or elevation views. You can still add 2D elements whenever you like using model lines or detail lines. Revit is a great software to use.

CONS

The only drawback is that you cant save a file to lower versions of the software. A Revit 2017 file can only be opened in Revit version 2017 or higher. That file cannot be opened in Revit 2015 software. Backwards compatibility would be great to have, just like some other Autodesk products example AutoCAD.

Advantages of using Autodesk Revit in the Construction Industry

PROS

What I like about the software is that it is very user-friendly and very straightforward to use. I have been an Autodesk Revit user for more than 7 years now and I have also used and explored other 3D authoring software, attended training and product presentations and I find the Autodesk Revit software easier to learn for beginners and the user interface is simple and complicated. The processes and workflow for other 3D authoring software are mostly long and complicated which can be confusing to new users and beginners which is I think is the key reason most companies in our industry prefer to use the Autodesk Revit software.

CONS

What I like the least about this software is that it is not backward compatible which is sometimes troublesome during the start of the project because Revit files that are saved by the latest version of Revit cannot be opened by the older versions which sometimes creates problems when the parties involved are using different versions.

Revit - The Go-To Documentation Software

Overall I think it's a great software. You just absolutely must have training in order to use it properly and most effectively.

PROS

Revit is an excellent software for basic modeling and documentation for projects. There are tons of resources online from libraries of families to forums with questions and answers to common problems. The ability to collaborate between workshared models is also extremely helpful. Overall, this is the industry leader in documentation software for construction documents.

CONS

I think there are definitely some bugs that need to be worked out and some aspects of the software that are rather clunky. Sometimes it feels as if Revit makes something that should be so simple, so complicated so you resort to a simpler software instead - like AutoCAD or SketchUp. I also think their error messages are not detailed enough. It makes it hard for you to know what the actual issue is, just that something went wrong, or something was deleted for no reason.

Good tool to make life easier if know how to use it

Good I’m making very good drawings through all the work stages. A bit tedious to learn and remember functionalities

PROS

Revit is full of potentiality and allow to produce very good drawings in all the stages including sections and 3D views very hard to produce manually in autocad.

CONS

The program is not intuitive and the user need to have a proper training. A lot of functions are not intuitive. It requires all the members of the team to be up to speed with the program to avoid disruptions since everyone is working on the same model. The contractor sometimes is lead to think that the engineering drawings are full coordinated drawings and the communication with them becomes tricky. It might lead to unpaid work.
