2020 Review
We use this everyday for cabinetry design, proposals, and presentations. It is very nice and pretty user friendly. I like that it is almost like a one stop shop program.
PROSThe features that we use the most is the ability to use the catalogs to our actual cabinet providers. We also draw and quote various times a day along with presenting. The ability to print of floor plans and elevations with ease is a great feature. It is a very easy program to learn and integrate.
CONSFeatures that could be improved is being able to dimension elevations that could be in hidden view before printing. Also being able to make an elevation without a wall.

Prokitchen versus 2020
Prokitchen allowed change of sizes on countertops (IE overhang at islands, etc.) without putting a hatch over the countertop. Prokitchen allowed resizing of appliances (30 refrig, 33 inch refrig, etc.). Prokitchen automatically allows the wall that would otherwise block your view to disappear along with whatever was on the wall. This allows better depth as you can pull back from the "cut". In 2020, you can cut the view, but if it is between the cabinet and the island, hallway space, etc., you are stuck tight to that object.
PROSThe ability to bring in outside catalogs like cambria, silestone, viking/subzero, etc. and design with them. The legend is nice (numbered pieces versus all of the std nomenclature.
CONSIt needs the ability to get square feet of countertops. the ability to see into the design from a wider angle/ larger perspective. Ability to create a note and copy it, hold the note to use in the future on another design.

Continued Improvement!
Overall 2020 live is a much better experience than the previous (non live) versions. The program does not crash like it used to.
PROSI appreciate the ease of use of the program, all the design features that allow for quick and efficient production of designs. I see how 2020 as a company continues to improve and listen to the feedback that its users provide.
CONSA quickbooks, or other accounting software, integration would be nice to see. The rates option in the catalog manager is hard to use, it would be great if there was a manual, a cheat sheet, or other instructions to give users an idea of how to properly set rates.
Reasons for switching to 2020 Design Live
Because I needed cabinetry specific software and autocad was too broad.

Long Time User
There are days I love it and there are days when if I could I'd put a bullet in its cloud brain.
PROSPreferred the system before it became cloud based. I like the expanded library of items to place in a design. The "Help" function is vastly improved. Sometimes the system is slow, assume thta is related to the number if users on the system at a given point in time. Have used other design software, 2020 is no better or no worse.
CONSWhat I like least is the ability to make numerous alterations or changes to a particular design. There seems to be what I call a resistance factor where any changes become difficult and errors result. This is especially true if you go back to a file thta is 6 months old or older. The 3D modeling I find at least on my system leaves much to be desired. I realize that this is contingent upon the PC and the graphics card but we also use Chief Architect and the 3D modeling is spectacular. Also if you have a view open of a perspective and wish to make changes to the design the system does not like it. I have to close he prospective in order to get the system to respond properly.

2020 Design has learning curve, but worth the journey
I have been using 2020 design for nearly 20 years, I love that I can create a photo realistic model and accurate parts list/price list for my clients. I try to incorporate architectural features that are unique to their space to help make it feel like it is theirs.
PROS2020 Design is easy enough for a novice to start dragging and dropping cabinets to create a simple design and quote, but there are powerful features locked away that make it worth the time investment to get really familiar with the software
CONSSome complain about the software crashes in 2020 Design, I have found this happens less often with newer versions of the software. By constructing your designs strategically, minimizing the rendering that happens behind the scenes and keeping an eye on the file size of imported models and materials, you can almost eliminate this problem.
Reasons for switching to 2020 Design Live
Software decisions are made by my employer. ProKitchen is a directly competing product, but SketchUp is a complimentary product that I still use. I will often create a model in SketchUp and then import it into 2020 to enhance my designs.

An Over Priced Monopoly
I liked the pricing features for cabinet brands that are integrated with 2020.
CONSCustomer service had not been good. Have lost whole designs due to unknown errors and had to start all over. Originally this software was a one time purchase for thousands of dollars plus a yearly customer service fee. That was already a stretch because I never would use customer service due to extended hold times and inability to fix my issue. Then they switched to a subscription based model and my key fob was canceled that I had paid for. It's now cost prohibitive. It also crashes often and has many quirks.
Reason for choosing 2020 Design Live
I only ever used 2020 because the cabinet lines I sold at the time were built around it. 2020 has a monopoly on the market as the big major brands are integrated with them to price and order. You are then left with no choice but to use 2020.

Essential for cabinet sales projects!
As a cabinet designer since 2005 this is the only software i have used that allows me to do it all from design and project presentation to detailed quote generation for estimates I can easily pass right along to clients . I literally use the software 5-6 hours a day.
PROSFull integration with cabinet suppliers. Full color catalogs allow for realistic presentation to clients. Ability to customize colors and textures makes it fun and clients appreciate the extra effort. Lighting features are amazing and life like. Tutorials make learning new tricks a breeze. I also love being able to log into the live account from anywhere.
CONSNothing. I do wish there was a quick version of the software i could install on my travel laptop that holds less memory so i could access in more places.

2020 Kitchen Design
3D rendering for clients to show their kitchen and being able to price it, otherwise I hate being forced to use it. We hate the cloud browser. It crashes all the time. Lags all the time. Can't manipulate items to look for accurate or panel ready appliances. I'd give it a 2.5/10.
PROS3D rendering and our cabinet lines have their cabinetry that we're able to somewhat accurately show and price.
CONSI honestly am frustrated daily having to use it. We HAVE to use it because of our cabinetry lines and pricing, but other than that I honestly do not like it. I absolutely cannot stand the cloud browser. You can't manipulate things if needed. There's panel ready appliances and yet you can't change it to reflect the color of the cabinets you're designing. The appliances in the cloud browser to actually put in an appliance cabinet takes FOREVER because you have to keep guessing where its going to land within the cabinet and then keep manipulating the cabinet to get to look remotely close vs when it was appliance catalogs in the local browser and it accurately attached to it. Sometimes the appliance in the drawing is floating somewhere else on the floor plan, but it's in the cabinet so you have to place it somewhere close and figure out where it actually is showing accurately in the cabinet. The decorative items and lighting sucks compared to before. Once you put a few cloud items in a drawing it repeatedly crashes or gets super laggy. You can't look at a 3D rendering and draw simultaneously because it lags so much. Placing items in the drawing will like swing in and out vs snapping to where it's suppose to go so for me to put in a soffit and move it in and out is nearly impossibly and takes forever to get it back into place. If there's internet issues and a drawing has cloud items, you literally cannot work within it because the cloud items don't load...the list goes on.

2020 Elevated Our Business Above the Rest!
I love Design Live and highly recommend it!
PROSI love the 360 panoramas and I find it crazy that more people don't utilize this function of the software! I LOVE the update that allows you to have multiple vantage points inside your space so that clients can walk all around their new space before we even pick up a hammer! This is such a powerful tool to allow us to share our vision- our clear, '2020 vision' with them! So many struggle to visualize a new space, especially if we are taking down walls so this has been vital in helping our clients and in setting us apart as a company.
CONSIn general, the software is easy to use and get started in on a basic level but if you want to be GOOD, it takes a lot of practice, skill, and training. I would love the 'camera function' to come back which makes doing the 360 views much easier to set up. I would also like to be able to 'hide' the floating yellow 'targets' inside the VR 360s when there are multiple ones. I sometimes use 3-5 and I'd like to do walk-throughs for real estate applications, but so many can be distracting. Using the toggle arrows below might be easier as an option.

Gets the Job done but not the most user friendly
It is okay. A few perks but definitely has a long way to go.
PROSIt generates quotes quickly & creates basic 3DS.If you have the time and an advanced PC it can generate realistic renderings
CONSIt crashes A LOT! You have to be a compulsive saver. It also takes a lot of hours to create a realistic rendering and the more details you add to make it look good the slower the drawing becomes, causing more crashes. Basic set-up options for a drawing is not easy to do or options are not available.

We love that it uses catalogs from actual cabinetry lines. It makes designing the space as realistic as possible!
CONSCan still be clunky at times. It'd be nice if the design of the software was a bit more sleek and if it were overall a bit more intuitive. ie, modifying cabinets could be more intuitive like chief architect. Material textures could be much better from 2020.

Disappointed
Not great. Very frustrating.
PROSDesign 2020 is fairly easy as a new user. I appreciate the easy access to videos and explanations on how to do specific functions.
CONSI think more catalog items should be added to create more personalized feel for each client. My biggest disappointment, however, is how often 2020 crashes on me. I can't even count the amount of times I've been mid-design and the program will crash on me. In some cases, my whole design ends up corrupting and upon opening the design I will receive an error message telling me the file is no longer compatible with Design 2020. If I add more than 3 or 4 catalog items it will crash. Sometimes when adding Countertops & Trims I will click the "Add" button and it will crash. Occasionally, the recovery file will save me from having to redo my entire design, but that is not always the case. I've had at least 4 designs that I've had to redo from scratch because the program crashes and corrupts the file.

2020 Design Live Review
Overall, 2020 Design Live is just like 2020 Design. I started using this program thirty-two years ago and many aspects have never changed which is disappointing. I would have thought that some features could have been improved by now. Some features are not working at all. Although my auto save is on and although I periodically save on my own, I do experience crashing on occasion and when I do, my design completely disappears. Very frustrating.
PROSI have always found 2020 easy to use and was concerned that Design Live would bring a whole new program, learning curve and challenges, but that is not the case. If you can use 2020 Design, transitioning to Design Live is absolutely no problem.
CONSI do not like being forced to use manufacturer catalogs for non-cabinetry items. I rarely know selections, like appliances for example, so it's very difficult to make a random selection. The room catalogs are so limited, outdated, or now eliminated and that's frustrating. It's like I'm being forced to create a very specific drawing, without actually having the specifics. That results in a misleading rendering.

2020 Design is does the job...if you have the latest computer tech
Not impressed. I just want to get my work done, fast. It takes too long and requires way to much power to produce a decent image unless you want to spend 4K on a new computer every year. I sell by line drawings only. My computer is three years old with an Nvidia Quadro M1200 video card.
PROSYou can make some really nice graphics, if you have the time.
CONSI've used 2020 Design for 20 years and my graphics have become LESS impressive simply because I don't have the time to use their time-consuming, not-user-friendly search engines; or their graphic lighting which depends on another source, or their time consuming high res generation. They've made decent imaging way too complicated.

Great Program!
The thing that I love most about the program is that it's relatively easy to use. If you're new to the program or a pro, there is an option for either of your levels. I also really like the customer service that Design 2020 provides, anytime there is something wrong I can call and get the issue figured out.
CONSSome of the things that I like the least is how limited it is. You pay so much money to look for an item like a tissue box, even then, in the 3D rendering it's not promised to be shown. I understand that some of this is easily taught, but the fact that you have to sit there and figure things out when it should be easy is what gets me.

Speed
Frustrating but it’s a necessary evil if I want any chance of selling cabinets.
PROSThe kitchen and bath design from the architectural to the countertops makes jobs possible.
CONSStop focusing on “the bubbles in the glass of champagne” and focus on making the program faster. It lags, it shuts down, and trying to modify anything while having any cloud based features makes the rendering extremely slow. The developers are too focused on the gimmicky details, which I understand help sell, but for my purposes of designing a kitchen and showing basic drawings and a cool 3d rendering, it’s too slow for the money I paid. NOTE: I purchased a top of the line computer specifically for running your program and have a great internet connection. My complaints match all complaints by every user I have ever encountered. Needs TLC
The great feature with 2020 Design Live is the ease to swap cabinet styles/colors with a couple of clicks. Adding modifications to cabinets work most of the time.
CONSThe missing links with 2020 are the lack of manufactures appliance catalogs. The importing of objects is easy, but due to lack of a library (catalog), or access to Sketchup, really limits the overall look of the renderings. The camera is not easy to set up or to get good images within a constructed floorplan. The program does clichy things at random moments, shutting down, freezing, or features responding and alternating settings within the effected cabinets.

CONSI don't like that if my internet is down it does not work, this is very frustrating when at work and the internet is down. I don't like that settings are not saved for updates and that it will load a new version in addition to the old version leaving both on the computer.
