Left Dropbox (after 10 years) for Lucid. Glad I did!

Excellent. Highly recommend. A+++++++++

PROS

Integration into file structure. Much easier than Dropbox.

CONS

No dislikes. Would not change anything.

Reasons for switching to LucidLink

Dropbox kept having security breaches. And after 10 years, Dropbox was dated.

Ridiculously Brillian!

Overall the experience has been great and we have pushed LL to it's limits, transfering and streaming terabytes of data. Yes the product is in it's early stages of development, but the feattures that are present do work reliably, which is all that I coudl ever ask for.

PROS

It works. It really works. The ridiculous thing is that LucidLink make a bold claim and they really deliver. I knew about LL for a few years, but have always been sceptical of it. It was almost shocking to find out when we tested it out that it worked exactly as advertised! What I like the most about it is that it allows to use creative tools designed for LAN collaboration over the internet. For example, Premier Productions. We are now able to have remote editors working from home with the same ease and convenience as if they where working in-house, and do it at pretty much at no extra cost (given the time and expenses saved on shipping of drives). Which is mind boggling! LucidLink has provided us with a ZERO COMPROMISE solution for remote collaboration which is something that may companies claim, yet non except LucidLink have managed to truly delivered on. LucidLink is: -More reliable than OneDrive/Google/Dropbox etc.. -Faster OneDrive/Google/Dropbox etc.. -Easier to deploy than OneDrive/Google/Dropbox etc.. -Real time streaming and remote collaboration really works as advertised, no caveats. Except the obvious dependency on strength of your internet connection.

CONS

Because the LL teams is small, some quality of life featture are still missing and will probably take a while to implement. Asking end users to dabble around in CLI to perform simple actions such as clearing cache or mounting multiple filespaces is not something that I wish I had to do as understandibly many users get intimidated by CLI. But I hope these functions will be added to the GUI in the future.

Reason for choosing LucidLink

Lucidlink is a vastly superior and better suited solution to solving out specific challenges, both in functionality and price.

Reasons for switching to LucidLink

Our previous solutions where either not cost effective or too cumbersome to set up when it came to short term collaboratrions and did nto provide the functionality that LucidLink does.

Love, love, love it. Our whole company moved over to it and now everything just works. Can't sing it praises high enough.

PROS

We call it dropbox on steriods. So fast and hardly any issues ever. seemless.

CONS

Occasional needs to recalculate itself. cost is creeping up to high figures now we're using more and more data.

Reasons for switching to LucidLink

dropbox would fill up other users hard drives. or if you turned on online only, its rarley worked on macs.

Excellent concept, impractical in real-world performance, misleading marketing

I want to love and use Lucidlink but continue to run into the same issues whenever I try it out (again and again). I appreciate the concept and hope to see things continue to improve. Great product, but not compatible with our needs and use cases. Same goes for competitive products like Suite Storage.

PROS

I love the idea of having a single source of truth for a "cloud NAS" that is easily accessible to anyone with an internet connection. The user management and product setup are very clean and well done.

CONS

Marketing "without ever downloading" is completely misleading and false - data has to upload and download to be viewed and "streaming" is not practical in many workflows. When working with professional media files (RAW, R3D, ARRI, etc) that are very large (80 - 400 GB per file), it's very convenient to have the files in one place, but they will need to get downloaded at some point. The "streaming" functionality of lucidlink does not perform well working with high resolution/data rate files even in a 1 Gb - 10 Gb synchronous fiber internet connection, not to mention a typical consumer internet connection. It is what it is. Proxy workflows and strategic pinning of data is the solution but can require large local storage to accommodate working with single files over 250 GB each. Pricing is prohibitive vs. alternative workflows.

Reason for choosing LucidLink

I didn't choose LucidLink. We opt for iconik, Wasabi and Resilio.

Vendor Response

Thank you Trevor for your candid feedback. This is an essential part of how we improve every day. And if testing LucidLink as part of a trial fell short of expectations, we want to know about it. Ultimately, eliminating the need for downloading is at the heart of our mission. That’s more than just marketing: it’s in the design of our product. Without a doubt, working with professional camera formats can be a challenge. Large-raster frame sizes, complex video codecs with high bit rates, both intraframe or GOP, carry the potential of placing strain on your choice of storage. To help address these issues, we hope you tried our Pinning workflow to get the best possible experience with LucidLink. Pinning doesn't create a duplicate copy, allowing the continuation of collaborative flows and eliminating any security concerns. We would welcome an opportunity to connect with you and field any other questions you may have, or provide clarity on anything else that you found disappointing.
