One of the best open-source CMS platforms

I would recommend Typo3 for anyone looking to develop a versatile online website.

PROS

Typo3 is for the people looking for unlimited customizations. The platform can be customized and flexed according to the clients' requirements, and the community is also impressive. There is a lot of free resources and modules available in the community for it. It is secure and fast!

CONS

There is a reasonable learning curve for the developers as well as the users. Requires technical proficiency to work with.

Create High-Quality Websites with free enterprise open source CMS

Typo3 is a versatile CMS. Often in most CMS's you start well and meet all your needs, but when your collection becomes very large and your facilities and expectations rise and growing, you will find that your CMS no longer meets your needs. This is not the case for Typo 3 and you do not need to change the CMS when your organization's going Big and along with the expansion of your business, it also supports special and professional features.

PROS

It is a professional CMS with which you can create all kinds of websites from a small personal website to a multilingual website with specialized facilities for an international organization. The most attractive option is to be free and open source. You can customize everything in TYPO3 CMS and get help from different developers. Also, there are thousands of extensions available for it, and a great Access Feature when you need to work with several admins and groups it helps you to assign the right access to your team members.

CONS

There are not many templates for this CMS in the market and in most cases you have to implement your own template and design or hiring someone for that.

Reason for choosing TYPO3

A large directory of various extensions, Responsive support and great community

Reasons for switching to TYPO3

As your organization grows, your expectations of a CMS will change and it must meet the specific and customized needs of your collection. We switched for personal customization.

Powerful and quite flexible, yet far behind WordPress and other similar systems

I've been using Capterra as a news editor since 2013, but it was not my choice - the system has been in place for years, the site that uses it has a huge collection of articles well indexed by Google, and switching to WordPress or anything else is a no-go. This piece of code has its highs and lows, but if I would be able to choose, I'd drop it in a second.

PROS

Typo3 is very flexible and quite popular. For the administrators of such a system, it is good to know that they get a modular piece of code that can be highly customized and proves to be quite reliable and very safe.

CONS

As a content editor for a Typo3-based website, things seem almost bearable at first sight. In some cases, this is the truth. However, for more advanced article types and in some particular situations, Typo3 proves to be an utter nightmare. To be more specific, its interface can be absolutely horrible - sometimes, there are at least three ways of doing something and none of those is intuitive - and there's not much in terms of help. Being used to WordPress, having to use Typo3 proves to be nothing less but torture.

The Best Enterprise-Grade CMS ... As Long As You're a Developer

I found TYPO3 from a website called the CMS Matrix. I was looking for a CMS that had every single feature. TYPO3 was the only option as other CMSs either didn't have the feature or it wasn't even available as an add-on. I'm happy to report that I made the right choice. It's important to note that in North America, TYPO3 doesn't get much attention because documentation and/or promotion is limited, but it has survived the rise and fall of other CMSs like Mambo, Joomla, Drupal, and of course WordPress (the blog with a million plugins). You can tell the attention to detail that's been put into TYPO3 by looking at it very structured code. As frustrated as I get with it, it truly is enterprise-grade.

PROS

In the 17+ years of using this software, I have built my company around it. When I get pinned by a client asking if they can do something custom, I don't even need to think about it - the answer is always YES. It's infinitely more powerful, secure, and customizable than other CMSs, and with an open source base you can do anything you want. It can be simplified for small business customers or opened up for corporate accounts.

CONS

Being a German program, most support - which can be very limited - is in another language. Further, the upgrades are done without any consideration for extension developers. It is expected that developers have to redo their extension as opposed to TYPO3 supporting it. Lately, the changes in upgrades have become so sweeping that thousands of extensions are no longer compatible. It's so bad that my company has had to invest tens of thousands of dollars into R&D to build our own extensions because we can't expect open source extensions to stay current with the T3 upgrade cycle. I really don't know why it needs to come to such careless upgrades: again, it on;y happened recently and before this (i.e. v.8) TYPO3 was doing everything right. Also, TYPO3 uses a configuration language called TYPOscript that turns off a lot of people because it's a whole new world of proprietary code to learn. However, it saves on a lot. Lastly, frontend editing - probably the biggest feature that makes wix, squarespace, etc. so popular - has taken a back seat since v.8 when it was making huge strides with extensions like Aloha (which, you guessed it, are now obsolete because of the upgrade).

Reason for choosing TYPO3

TYPO3 has every feature either built-in or available as a plugin. The same can be said for others but unlike others, TYPO3 has many built-in. The backend layout makes sense and new users can easily visualize their site as a page tree just like Windows Explorer. We can increase/decrease the user interface by permission and/or skill level. We can integrate any design we want to code our own template relatively easily.

Highly Flexible CMS that provides advanced security.

Great CMS and is a perfect for businesses looking forward to grow their websites.

PROS

Easy customisation functionality and best CMS to build your website. TYPO3 is Free and open source CMS which provides several other plugins and is highly secure as compared to other CMS.

CONS

I like all the features but for small business owners this CMS is costly enough. So the pricing plans can be made cost effective and it requires the help of skilled person having technical knowledge.
