There are not many templates for this CMS in the market and in most cases you have to implement your own template and design or hiring someone for that.

I've been using Capterra as a news editor since 2013, but it was not my choice - the system has been in place for years, the site that uses it has a huge collection of articles well indexed by Google, and switching to WordPress or anything else is a no-go. As a content editor for a Typo3-based website, things seem almost bearable at first sight. In some cases, this is the truth. However, for more advanced article types and in some particular situations, Typo3 proves to be an utter nightmare. To be more specific, its interface can be absolutely horrible - sometimes, there are at least three ways of doing something and none of those is intuitive - and there's not much in terms of help. Being used to WordPress, having to use Typo3 proves to be nothing less but torture.

I found TYPO3 from a website called the CMS Matrix. I was looking for a CMS that had every single feature. TYPO3 was the only option as other CMSs either didn't have the feature or it wasn't even available as an add-on. I'm happy to report that I made the right choice. It's important to note that in North America, TYPO3 doesn't get much attention because documentation and/or promotion is limited, but it has survived the rise and fall of other CMSs like Mambo, Joomla, Drupal, and of course WordPress (the blog with a million plugins). You can tell the attention to detail that's been put into TYPO3 by looking at it very structured code. As frustrated as I get with it, it truly is enterprise-grade.

In the 17+ years of using this software, I have built my company around it. When I get pinned by a client asking if they can do something custom, I don't even need to think about it - the answer is always YES. It's infinitely more powerful, secure, and customizable than other CMSs, and with an open source base you can do anything you want. It can be simplified for small business customers or opened up for corporate accounts.

Being a German program, most support - which can be very limited - is in another language. Further, the upgrades are done without any consideration for extension developers. It is expected that developers have to redo their extension as opposed to TYPO3 supporting it. Lately, the changes in upgrades have become so sweeping that thousands of extensions are no longer compatible. It's so bad that my company has had to invest tens of thousands of dollars into R&D to build our own extensions because we can't expect open source extensions to stay current with the T3 upgrade cycle. I really don't know why it needs to come to such careless upgrades: again, it on;y happened recently and before this (i.e. v.8) TYPO3 was doing everything right. Also, TYPO3 uses a configuration language called TYPOscript that turns off a lot of people because it's a whole new world of proprietary code to learn. However, it saves on a lot. Lastly, frontend editing - probably the biggest feature that makes wix, squarespace, etc. so popular - has taken a back seat since v.8 when it was making huge strides with extensions like Aloha (which, you guessed it, are now obsolete because of the upgrade).

I like all the features but for small business owners this CMS is costly enough. So the pricing plans can be made cost effective and it requires the help of skilled person having technical knowledge.

It's somewhat stable but basically that's it

Compared to many other CMS on the market, this one is not simple to implement and the complexity of using it is somewhat big. Also, to create customizations in code it has a steep learning curve, which makes it not ideal for whoever wants to customize it

Overall I liked my experience and the freedom I had using it. For my kind of usage it is good but I would not recommend for people who want to run a simple website quickly and easily.

I liked the freedom it gave me to create pages as I wanted, quickly and easily. It is also easy to maintain multi-brands and multi-languages websites. It can be adapted to any kind of business.

The UX is not attractive and it is difficult to use and explain to non-digital colleagues. They were afraid of using it. Another problem is that the Typo3 community is quite small, so it is more difficult to find help on-line.

One thing that I love the most about the Typo3 CMS is its easy to use and intuitive interface. Really impressive and smooth! Also, there are a number of extensions available in the market to add more features to this.

The documentation is no clear and can be confusing for the developers.

Provide security as I want but more costly

Je dirais plutôt la version responsive du backoffice qui, à mon goût, est à revoir et à améliorer.

Globalement c'était une bonne expérience. en tant que Novice au début ce n'était pas facile de prendre en main le backoffice du site web mais une fois c'est maitrisé, tout est devenu plus simple et intéressant.

L'administration du site web était conviviale et simple

L'aspect graphique du backoffice est assez vieillissant

La segmentation des droits d'accès pour avoir un réseau de contributeurs, l'intégration facile des plug in et le plan de classement assez intuitif.

La rigité lorsqu'il s'agit de modifier le CSS et l'interface qui n'est très user friendly

A good, solid, stable solution for very serious, corporate projects. However, is this my first choice? Definitely not. Unfortunately, the benefits of using Typo3 are generally not enough to compensate for the huge time spent on its implementation, configuration, customization, development and maintenance. But that's my opinion, so check Typo3 for yourself and make a decision whether to use it. It is a really interesting and advanced product.

What can you like Typo3 for? For flexibility and possibilities. It's more than a CMS, it's rather a CMF. It's really great. On the other hand, Typo3 is definitely not easy to use (and not for everyone).

With Typo3 I spent a lot of time on things that in other applications are very easy to implement. For me the biggest problems are the user interface, user experience (learning curve) and technical documentation of Typo3.

Great structure. Easy to use and learn others to use. Flexible. And very easy to move elements around - and swop them above/below each other.

For blogging and content websites it's not the ideal platform. For that I like Wordpress better. There writers easily can write content directly in the editor. In Typo3 you kind of need to do the preparations in a seperate document.

I like the way they experienced and make this software tool very useful for the people who are not that much familiar with website coding and wants to manage the content of website. I would definitely recommend it.

I really like this tool in earlier era of website content management system software tool- when we were having static website with less features of dynamic feature like contact form etc. Another feature I like it that it make me a medium level of coding learner even I am not a developer.

Overall it's great to understand and manage, but the operation time is very high to use this tool. Usually when I operate content management task over it - it takes too much time to perform a very small task.

I installed TYPO3 on my desktop localhost without a hitch. I got stuck at the stage of creating my first content on the new website. Most of the documentation I found was not clear and strait forward for me. However, TYPO3 looks like a really good content management system when compared with the available alternatives, and If I find more straight forward video tutorials I may use TYPO3 for my future web design projects.
