CoConstruct Software


 

CoConstruct is a project, financial, and client management system for custom home builders and remodelers. It is the only single-entry estimating system that allows each user to enter a piece of information once, and have that data flow directly from the estimate, specifications, selections, bids, change orders, budgets, and to and from QuickBooks – with no double entry. Users can manage their projects from their tablet or desktop, in in the field with our mobile app.

In addition to the fully integrated financial system, CoConstruct streamlines scheduling, communication, client and subcontractor portals, files, photos, to-dos, time clock, job log, warranty, and more.

CoConstruct provides builders unlimited, no-charge projects for use with prospects, estimating, and bidding. Each builder only pays for the number of projects currently under construction.

The CoConstruct subscription includes a dedicated implementation coach, custom branding to match the builder's website, phone and online support, unlimited ongoing training, and options to attend an in-person, 2-day training sessions with other CoConstruct users.

Give it a shot. The money back guarantee is a very good reason to, at least, get access and see if it’s rightfor your organization.

Pros

Easy to use interface and no nonsense bells a whilstles. It’s a good software with a purpose that does what it says it will.

Cons

I do wish the “branding” was a little better and deeper. I feel a little mislead by how it was sold. Not necessary, but deep branding is a nice feature.

Cons

Purchase Orders are a nice addition but they really need to make it possible to receive partial POs and to push bills for those amounts.

As a previous user of a competing software, I have found CoConstruct to be a HUGE win for our company. We are in a process of growth, and with growth comes an increasing need for organization and structure. CoConstruct has helped us master organization and communication for our office staff, field staff, and customers. We can do our estimate in the software, which then translates to a completed Specs/Selections sheet for the customers. In other software we have used, we had to do double entry. Not in CoConstruct. One time and you're done.

Potential customers are blown away when we show them what we can do with this software. Most of our customers are out of town during the build, so knowing that their project managers will be uploading Job Logs regularly with photos of the construction progress is a big deal to them.

The software support is also pretty incredible. During our transition, we were assigned an "implementation coach" who spoke to us weekly, trained us, and addressed any issues we were having with the conversion. This is truly what made the conversion successful for us.

Cons

It does take some time and effort into making things work how you want them. It is a flexible software with many different solutions, so you need to spend some time and think about how you want it to look and function. The great thing is, they have several templates in there for you to start with if you do not have your own. If you're looking for a software solution to take your company to the next level, make a commitment, spend the time, take advantage of the FREE implementation coaches at CoConstruct, and get it done. Overall, great software for a much lower price point than all the competitors. If you are a smaller company, like mine, and you have a tight budget, this is great, functional software.

Pros

This software contains all the features a remodeling company or building company needs to function efficiently. Exports to QuickBooks and other accounting software for convenient billing and bookkeeping.

Cons

Different features don’t flow through to eachother within the software. For example, you cannot create tasks in schedule from line items in the estimate page, which would seem pretty basic. Also the user interface is a tad cumbersome.

If you're not using this program and you have competition in your area that is. Get ready to be had. I tell people all the time, "If you don't have this, you're not competing on the same level as me."

Pros

Effective at streamlining the construction process and technical support that cannot be beat. This program has allowed us to make more money on each project as well as allow us the control to handle more projects at one time with the same management team.

Cons

There is a lot going on with this program. So you will need to take time to settle into using every function. It can seem daunting at times but the technical support makes it much easier. Does not have a calendar that we can use at this time. If there were a calendar more like a day to day calendar like Google Calendar this would make our type of work much easier to schedule. As it is now the calendar is good for new construction where you're subbing most if not all of it out, but it doesn't function well for in house day to day operations like estimating or when guys have multiple stops in the day.

The communication and contextualization of information is awesome. I love that everything for a project can be found in one place and shared to all the people on the team that need it. I love that homeowners can have a voice that is not my text inbox and the information goes to more than just me so it is acted on. I love that team at Co-Construct is constantly listening and working to improve the software to better fit my team, my trade partners and my homeowners requests. I love the integration with QB. And last but not least I love the mobile app.

Cons

On the homeowners side there is not currently a search bar and it makes it hard for homeowners to find specific information. Other than that its really a great software.

We are a home builder and we use this platform as our foundation with every client. We track the progress of construction from start to end along with all building documents, forms, pricing, quoting, plans, and more. We could not function the way we do without this software.

Pros

I love that there are already existing premade templates but that I can easily customize them. I love that I can engage with both my clients and vendors in this platform. It's a place that holds all of the information for each project in one place from contracts, to plans, to change orders, invoices, pdf's, and more.

Cons

There is so much in the program it can seem a little overwhelming at first, but once you get in there and realize how effective this can make you, your team, and your company, it is worth exploring and ensuring you use every aspect of the platform.

Pros

Absolutely everything about this product perfectly fits our needs. It has every feature we were looking for, and THEN some! The to do list is a life saver for one, And coordinating schedules works seamlessly. I love having the option to share files, and have a quick way to channel information promptly.

Cons

I think that the only thing that could use some work is sharing files and photos. It needs to be more streamlined. One of the guys could not get it to work. A tool tip would have been good for him to view to explain things in more detail.

This app is so helpful - I can see the schedule of what is being done daily on my house, I can correspond with the builder, I can see how money has been spent thus far on the house, it allows you to see everything you have picked out for your house. It has a tab for Schedule, Finances, Spec & Selections, Change Orders, To Do , Warranty.

Cons

The software is a good fit for semi-custom builders. It was sold to us as a fit for fully custom work, but it's not suited for that. The whole system is built around specification sheets. The idea is that you can build it once with your standard options, have your client click on choices, and all is entered. Problem is, in a company like ours, there is no standard. Every job is different. The specification sheets are very time intensive to build, so it makes no sense to draw up a new one for every job- it's just not built to do that (they admitted that it's not). It also needs a better search engine like builder trend

I like that the contractor is responsive. I like that my conversations are documented. I like that the software is fast.

Cons

It makes a simple process more complicated. Perhaps the contractor doesn't use it to its full potential or perhaps I am missing some key instructions that would help. I've used it now for about 2 months on a daily basis and it is not getting any less confusing. For example, in the financials tab I see things like framing, demo, etc... My contractor has not filled those in....his bad. However, he has filled in stuff like allowances for appliances but there isn't an entry for his overhead. So is it rolled in to his allowance or is it separate. Once again, difficult to tell and therefore confusing if I need to know where to cut back.

Clearly the developers are builders because every time we have a question or think we've found a hole in the product, we are pointed to the answer, which already exists! I honestly can't think of a negative; the handful of times we've had questions have all been immediately answered and resolved. Test drive it for at least a week and USE THE HELP SECTION. We are a residential design/build firm that manages renovation projects from initial concept through final construction. Prior to Co-construct, we managed all selections via Microsoft Excel spreadsheets and did all of our scheduling through Microsoft Project. This was a nightmare because every job had to be created independently, and the information was extremely difficult to share with our clients.

I'm a small residential custom home builder and remodeler, starting in Mississippi, and now in Wyoming. The market has been incredibly competitive, people are wanting work done for the bottom dollar, and I haven't been willing to sacrifice quality to get there. So many people have a bad taste in their mouth for contractors because of price over-runs or miscommunications.

I've been thinking for awhile that I need to find some kind of niche or something that I don't have to sell my product or work on price only. I have an estimating program (Bob's Basic System), but as far as selections, schedule, communicating, etc., I have not had any software and it's been a lot of calling, emailing, and other communication.

I stumbled upon Co-construct not even looking for a management software, and it caught my interest because I was starting a project for a couple that live in Chicago. I see Co-construct possibly becoming my niche. I have a vision of making home-building or remodeling a pleasant experience for the customer and not a sour one. I am a small/boutique luxury builder in Atlanta, GA. My main focus has been on building mansions and estates. I work with a unique set of clients that are very discerning about the fine details of their home, and equally discerning about how I run my business and the construction process. I made it my goal to find a highly functional program which was also easy to use and "good looking" to take our image and professionalism to another level.

We previously used our own hybrid creation that included spreadsheets, three-part printed selection guides and handwritten change orders. With the economy in the tank and competition fierce, I needed a system to take my company to another level and become heads and shoulders above my competition. Co-construct was it.

I have been using Co-construct for about two years and have really enjoyed it. The implementation was easy and their step by step instruction, help database, and ongoing webcasts made it even easier. I went in with the realistic idea that it will take work to make it perfect but the old saying rules: garbage in, garbage out.

Currently my team of Co-Construct users consists yours truly, however I can see how easy it will be to add new employees to utilize the system effectively. Every time I needed help with a question, it has been answered promptly and with the utmost care.

The one huge benefit for me is simple: I would like to expand my company during this evident housing recovery. I would like to increase my volume and start building more moderately priced homes, which is exciting but has a lot of unknowns. I truly believe that if I had not implemented Co-construct in my business I would not even be thinking about expanding my company right now. The truth is that Co-construct has provided me and my company a spectacular platform, built on process and procedures that can be rolled out in a professional manner thus making it easy to expand.

I was just like every other builder out there, I am competitive on price, I provide a good product and we have good service, but that all usually goes haywire the moment we start to get too busy and then I cant keep up with the paperwork, our quality suffers and I end up with upset and confused clients.

Prior to co-construct I used a regular Microsoft Gantt chart for our schedules which, when we first gave it to a client it looks great but after one or two changes it still looks the same, even if I am keeping up with my extensions of time. The client still only looks at the end completion date and I rarely updated the completion date on the Gantt chart. What this meant is that we had clients who still believed they were moving in on the initial completion date. This just created confusion and anger with the clients.

The other thing we would do is let the clients take control of their selections, and as usual, they wouldn't pick them until the last moment and we would lose our tradesmen that we had booked in as we wouldn't have the gear for them to start.

Since we started using Co-construct we have been running ahead of schedule and have been giving all of our clients deadlines for choices. We have happy clients across the board and they all comment on how easy it is to use, I even have an 75 year old lady who is using it and loves it.
It has become a great sales pitch when selling to new customers and we have been winning more projects because of it.

I will never go back to our old system and I can only suggest if you are serious about building a strong reputable company then Co-construct would be the first thing I would implement.

Co-construct where were you 15 years ago!

I'm not sure I want to write a glowing review for Co-Construct. I don't want my competition knowing about them!

All kidding aside. Co-Construct is a hugely valuable tool for our company. We've been using it for a couple of years now, and I can't imagine how we would do without it at this point. We've had double digit growth over the past year and we anticipate that to continue for quite some time and Co-Construct continues to become more valuable.

I think one of the things I like the most about Co-Construct is their customer service. A lot of times, you buy this expensive software package and when you need help figuring something out, good luck. Not with Co-Construct. Donny and crew go above and beyond to make sure it works the way it's supposed to and if it isn't, they want to know about it.

After every home is completed and during our homeowner orientation, we ask them about the system. 100% of our customers have praised our system and said that it was one of the reasons why they would recommend us to anyone they know. Many of them have said that they have no idea how they would have been able to manage all of their selections without it.

Give the guys at Co-Construct a try. I think you'll find the same thing my team and I have found - they will become an integral part of your building experience.

For us, the biggest benefit of Co-construct is that it helps minimize mistakes and miscommunication. We tell our clients that whatever is approved in Co-construct is what is going to happen on the job site. Therefore, regardless of what was said previously via email or verbal communication, everyone is aware that the Co-construct approvals trump everything!

We have been building homes, remodeling, and custom cabinetry for 40 years. We are exclusively a custom shop and have never built the same house twice. I decided to switch to Co-construct from another similar system a few years ago.

This system has transformed the way we interact with clients and our trade partners. We were able to meet an extremely difficult deadline for one of our best clients, primarily because of the schedule in Co-construct. Through it, we were able to keep in constant communication with the trades, as far as adjustments to their start dates. I have never before found a scheduling software with so much power and flexibility at the same time.

The selections part of the software is now our specifications document, as well as the selections options information to clients, all in the same place!! I have been searching for a long time for something to hold all of the information that goes into a building a home. I finally have it. I am able to share a great deal of information with clients about what makes us a better builder. For example, I have photos and literature uploaded onto our template regarding the superior sub-floor product that we use. Clients can choose to read this information or skip past it. Each day that I am asked a question from the field, it gets added to the selections template. Yesterday I added asking which side of the sink does the client desire the garbage disposal to be placed. It's these kinds of details that, when added together, can create greater efficiencies and thus profit!

In all my years in the industry I have never worked with a software company that works so hard to continuously improve it's product ever! Most softwares will send out a minor tweak here and there, and occasionally a big upgrade. Not these guys. I am constantly delighted in surprise of the continuous stream of well thought out upgrades to a system that already seems amazing! As long as you aren't one of my competitors, I highly recommend Co-construct!
