MyCase is a cloud-based legal management solution that helps attorneys in small size law firms to manage communications with their clients and carry out daily business operations. The solution also provides functionalities for accounting and scheduling purposes.

MyCase offers users applications like time tracking, accounting, case management, contact management, and docketing. The solution can be accessed via computers and various mobile devices. Mobile application for iOS and Android devices are also provided.

Users can manage and sync their calendars to collaborate with clients and coworkers. MyCase facilitates electronic bill pay and notifications directly through mobile or desktop interfaces. It also offers integration with QuickBooks.

Additional features include custom communication templates, case filing system, contact management, expense tracking and dedicated client portal.

MyCase also provides on-demand training webinars and customer support via phone, email and through an online knowledge base. It offers services to users that are billed monthly.

Nice Program...When It Works

Completely unacceptable to have a entire system go down for 6 hours on a very busy Friday business day. My C.O.O. invited several current and prospective clients for a demonstration, and 2 minutes into in, the entire system crashed.

Pros

Today was the first week that our clinic started using MyCase. Easy of use is exceptional. Training videos are exceptional. The product is imaginative in nature and designed perfectly for our unique needs.

Cons

The system went completely down today..4 hours and counting...in the middle of presenting to clients

I am going to have to look into another credit card processing that will not link with MyCase which is frustrating but the company that MyCase has contracted with is not good at best and very expensive to our company.

Pros

The product’s google like set up is very nice. Training new employees is a breeze and the software is very intuitive so normally people have no issue catching on.I like the layout generally and the options that you have managing accounting and case files. I love how it syncs with QuickBooks almost seamlessly.

Cons

Th new layout with recent activity as the first window when you pull up a case file is the WORST idea. Very annoying. The lack of response you get as a customer is frustrating at times especially when you put ina request or comment and then get no response. The lack of ability to use other credit card processing platforms is very frustrating given that the PayPros platform is one of the way more expensive options. The app often has issues “connecting” or logging on.

Pros

This program seems to have endless possibilities for use within a law firm. It allows communication between clients and staff, and allows a secure storage place for documents in a place that clients can view as well. It promotes an awareness of schedule and time management, and (my favorite part) is a very convenient way to manage payments.

Cons

Some of the features are harder to locate. I think it could be made slightly more user friendly especially when it comes to designing workflows and updating documents.

A Great Product for the Price (Without Bells and Whistles)

Great product which covers all the basic requirements of case management software and a price that can't be beat. I'm still using it, but looking at other options as I grow to avoid some of the more time-consuming aspects/cumbersome aspects of the software.

Pros

Cost is minimal and allowed me to get up and running with case management software immediately upon starting my law firm. It covers the basics - central place for case details, contacts, and documents; repeating task lists and deadlines; calendaring; and integration with quickbooks and email (to an extent). There is an obvious need for this type of product and I'm glad it is/was available.

Cons

The email integration is cumbersome and essentially requires you to forward messages to MyCase and then sort them individually into the correct cases. It does recognize emails/contacts frequently used and suggests a case assignment, but you still have to go through each email one by one and affirm that suggestion to get it to import into the case. With just a small caseload, this is time-consuming and would not be manageable for large volumes of emails.

The documents are stored in MyCase and accessible from wherever you are. That's nice, but not as helpful for me since it requires you to download the document onto your computer from MyCase, read it or make changes, and then re-save in MyCase if changes are made. Since I am mostly using the same computer each time, I don't want/need to re-download documents every time. To avoid, I just go to where the document is saved on my computer, but then I'm toggling between MyCase and my desktop. There is no way to work on/view documents WITHIN MyCase, which would make a huge difference.

It is nice to know that documents are available just by logging in on any device, but it's not as useful for a solo with one main work computer without the ability to open the document without downloading it.

Needed to compare time and billing software for a solo practitioner

Customer service has been outstanding. Everyone that I have spoken to has been friendly and willing to take over my computer. Very helpful. Cody Nielson, one of the senior people has been especially helpful when I asked about the security of putting in bank information. The system allows you to reconcile bank statements, but the attorney that I work for is reluctant to do that until we are using the system for a month or two. The law firm's IT person also recommended MyCase. The cost is extremely reasonable and an attorney can get a discount by being a member of the ABA.

Pros

MyCase is an extremely user-friendly time and billing software. The tutorials have been very helpful. I needed to find something that an attorney could do with great ease. I also needed to be able to deal with retainers and trust accounts. You have the ability of allowing the clients to log into a secured client portal and share documents, as well as forwarding billing information. MyCase gives you the ability to create deadlines in calendar. All the deadlines from the calendar appear on the right side of the screen when you log in which is very convenient. Working with invoicing was much easier than I thought too.

Cons

I don't like the constant updates if a client logs into the Client Portal or if an update was made to the case or contact.

Organization at last, my way, my speed

I haven't had the chance to use the payment module yet which is mildly frustrating but i'm looking forward to same. The company also offers related website services in support/conjunction which I am considering but am unable to advise otherwise on.

Pros

Setup is structured but allows you to add your own categories and fields in addition to tasks, notes, documents etc letting you put what you feel is important up front. Unlimited storage in the cloud to allow for document association as well as a editing program and the ability of clients to check status on their cases to the extent you want such are all attractive features.

Cons

The open architecture approach is welcomed but I would like to be able to organize more case type specific concepts more easily than what I can. The editing program only works apparently if the system you are on has MS word as otherwise the system will advise you to purchase same. The mobile application I believe it being upgraded but you cannot see tasks on it for the moment.

Mobile app is nice with easy integration of calendar. Quick entry of new calendar events. Clients like having a portal to access case info and documents and for communicating with the office. Generating billing statements and "sharing" (sending) to clients is easy. Great to be able to accept credit cards and checks online.

Cons

Cannot enter new matters on mobile app. Would be good to be automatically begin a time entry based on the calendar events, i.e. time entry needed for court appearances or other events listed in calendar

The program is easy and intuitive yet lacks too many simple things, such as being able to set a reoccurring calendar event or a reoccurring task. There is no notification for a time entry not being made nor for making a time entry after completing a task.

Pros

Ease and simplicity.

Cons

Lack of features reoccurring calendar and tasks, lack of e-mail, lack of integration of contacts, calendar and other items into MyCase from other programs. Version on iPhone not the same as the online version and very limited, missing items available on the online version.

Cons

Our practice is heavy into document drafting. Each edit required downloading and then having to upload again. With e filing becoming standard, it was too many steps to simply have a document emailed or efiled.

The ease of use is my favorite part of this software. I can easily enter clients information and track case strategy. Also, I can collect directly from invoice through credit card, debit card or automatic check.

Cons

Hard to change money that is deposited into trust after an invoice has been created. The money is more than the invoiced amount, but puts the remainder into operating account. For example, invoice is $1200 for the month and the client is required to keep $2500 in trust. They make a $3700 payment, $1200 for invoice and $2500 to trust, but the software shows the money in my operating account.

I used MyCase for awhile and then left to go to another PMS. Recently looked at my bill and thought about how much more I was paying and I was not using half of its functionality so I decided to go back to MyCase. So glad I did. I love having everything in one place. It's not perfect but love the new lead capture capability and love that clients no longer need to create a portal just to pay a bill. That was a huge pain and part of why I left. Glad they have listened to their clients and have made some great updates.

Cons

Only real obvious negative is that when a client is in the office and want to pay, I still have to cut and paste the link into a new window instead of just being able to capture their info directly.

We trialed myCase and didn't stick with it. Why? We found the product to be cumbersome and difficult to use. It didn't follow our existing workflows and made us change how we approched the case intake and management process. It's been the least favorite case management system we looked at in our evaluation of multiple systems.

MyCase has helped keep me organized with all the cases I have pending.

Pros

It is easy to use and when you do have a problem the support team is very responsive and will work with you until solution is found. They also seem very responsive to customer requests, and timely follow up on questions or suggestions.

Cons

It lacks some features that other case management software has but since using MyCase they have consistently added features. They are open to suggestions and have actually implemented some of the suggestions I have made in the past.

It very nearly has everything needed to run a law firm efficiently, and alleviate stress, eliminate missed deadlines/appointments, maintain communication with clients, and get paid for work quickly. We've used it since 2012 when it was in its early stages, and there have been regular updates and new features added to make it a strong robust system for client and case management as well as trust accounting. I highly recommended.

Pros

Very useful client portal. Clients can login, keep track of their case, upload documents, view documents uploaded by firm, calendar with reminders, make payments, and securely message the firm.

Ease of use, very modern simple interface.

Flat fees per user.

Management of cases, custom fields, reports, and case status information easily updated and available.

Free e-check payments from clients.

Calendar function for firm to manage cases, and deadlines.

Tasks to keep track of

Cons

Reporting on all cases is not quite there yet, but it has been recently updated. Needs to allow firm to save different reports based on specified data. At the moment specific reports based on specific data cannot be saved, must be input each time you run a case report.

Workflows! Being in a law firm setting, there are numerous tasks, firm procedures and statutory deadlines to keep up with. You can customize your workflows down to the tiniest details and with reminders, when needed, so nothing is ever missed!

Cons

Not being able to print our workflows in full. We would like to be able to print and include them in a procedures manual for training purposes. We have contacted MyCase several times about this. Hoping this feature will be available soon!

I began using MyCase when it was relatively young. As a result it has been easy to master each new feature as it has been introduced. Tech support is responsive and helpful when needed. MyCase continues to add features based on input and suggestions from users and there seems to be a focus on staying current and relevant to demands of law office management.

Pros

From the beginning, it was easy to use, and as it has evolved, it remains user friendly. It eliminates the need for a paper file. One of the best features is that clients have access to their case, documents, calendar, billing and to their attorney. The messaging function eliminates voice messages and most phone calls. Clients can leave questions at any time of day or night and will have a documented answer without telephone tag. Overall case management is significantly more efficient than paper files.

Cons

The creation of Automated documents has been disappointing. The feature exists but is not as user friendly as the rest of the software. The recent integration with Dropbox is confusing as well but I suppose that may be my lack of familiarity with how it functions.

I like MyCase for how much it streamlines the process. We cut out a lot of phone calls and walk-ins by using this product. That means we can spend more time working uninterrupted. The ability to use MyCase on our phones and tablets means we can stay in touch and work while on breaks at the courthouse.

Cons

I would benefit from the ability to automatically bill at a set rate for all emails and comments made on a particular case. It is tedious to have to enter those manually, but MyCase doesn’t currently offer a way to bill those with ease.

I find it easy to use and think it's a great way to keep a law firm organized and on top of things. Moreover, it's a great way to keep clients updated on the status of their case and easily track conversations - no more endless searches on e-mail.

Pros

I like how we can do everything on it: billing, messages, calendaring, adding workflows and case stages, so nothing falls down the cracks. I also like how we can post comments on specific documents.

Cons

The messaging system times you out, so if writing a long message, it is best to type it somewhere else first then copy and paste to MyCase.

Billing; workflow control; high volume of small cases kept under control

Pros

Extremely easy to get up and running; training was a snap; there have been very few situations we couldn't handle.

Cons

Pricing gets little out of hand. For the value received, we'd like to have all our associates and staff members with access; that would run up to $400-$500 per month. We have several professionals who just need to view information, very occasionally. Each has to have a full license. Still less expensive than alternatives

MyCase has every single detail, document, e-mail, calendar notification and information needed for your files. It is essentially a one-stop shop. Couple that with the procedural ease-of-use, and MyCase is a no brainer for any business (especially law firm, in my opinion).

Cons

It runs a bit slow at times, but it's pretty nominal. May be attributed to the volume of my firm's files, however.

My overall experience with MyCase is above outstanding. If I see an issue with the software or a need that I think could be addressed the support staff would waste no time in providing support and building something. I love the continued improvements a being made which makes me feel the support team is truly listening. The beautiful dashboard is easy, sleek and allows me to get to the important information quickly.

Pros

What I like most about MyCase is the ease of use. I can use it though an app or if I choose through a web browser on my portable devices. Each platform offers ease of use.

Cons

The only feature I wish the app platform had is the ability to see archived emails.

I wanted software that integrated billing and made it simple to collect money. After all, what is the point of being highly organized if you aren't also making money. The billing is editable and straight forward and the easiest I have worked with. Calendar, case management and document integration are all great too! Definitely worth the money!

Pros

It is so easy to use, you just intuitively know how it works. Also, they encourage feedback for new features and release them often. The online help with videos and detailed instructions is awesome too!

Cons

Not really a complaint, but the graphics aren't as flashy as other software, but I take performance of looks any day.

I wish some things were more customizable and that there could be some integration with dropbox and or notability to help with document management also I think the way of entering dates on the mobile platform is cumbersome sometimes and they took away the ability to copy text from case name to event title field which sucks

It has been an extremely positive experience and an incredibly good value. I capture so much more billable time due to the ease of time entries, and I save so much time generating Invoices.
