Simplicity you can trust

Overall, great product. Many advanced features exist but they are nicely tucked away so that you can learn and use the techniques more readily.

PROS

Easy to learn, hard to break, methods I trust

CONS

I'm sure it is good practice to log me out automatically after a period of inactivity but I would like the option to extend the period a bit. I'm often spending a fair amount of time thinking or investigating an option and I get logged out a lot. It's not a big deal but certainly noticeable to me. Also, once in a while the MaxDiff module occasionally got stuck if I tried to make an edit. The survey keeps reloading and I have to close out the browser and log back in to get it unstuck.

Great Survey Tool for the Money That's Regularly Updated and Improved

I really enjoy the whole body of literature available within the Sawtooth site. It seems there's no question we've asked that someone else hasn't already asked and for which there is a clear and concise answer already available within the technical papers or forums. The support team is really helpful and responsive as well.

PROS

Discover is a great online survey tool for general interview questions, but especially for MaxDiff and conjoint. The platform is intuitive and the conjoint analysis is very easy to understand compared with other survey tools. You can't find another platform that offers conjoint with this level of quality at this price. And I like that Discover is regularly updated with new features. It has been a great tool for us!

CONS

Integrating a Discover survey with an outside panel or another survey can be a process, but it's easier now than it used to be. The support team is really helpful for that. The biggest limitation for us is that we can't distribute the survey by email within the Discover platform and need to use an outside party. But once you have that arrangement set up, integration with Discover is fairly easy.

Reason for choosing Discover

A combination of price and functionality. Other survey tools that claim to offer conjoint don't allow for any interpolation between price points, which was a huge limitation for us. The functions within Discover, combined with a competitive price, made it a great choice.

Helpful features

Overall the data is useful but creating the survey to get there is tough.

PROS

The CBC questions without a doubt are most helpful

CONS

Rearranging questions and question dependency is not an easy thing to do. Google forms has an easy logic flow for these questions. Also the look of the survey is very dull. I’m not sure if that’s on purpose or not.

Excellent Product for Light Market Research Use

Overall, it's a great tool. Easy to use, but we needed more horsepower and the LCA.

PROS

I love the intuitive and easy to use nature of Discover. It makes it so that anyone can start doing quant analysis. It's almost idiot proof, since it recommends things like sample size, which really helps as far as being able to delegate survey design to others on my team. Other pros include features like the maxDiff analyzer which has the Turf Analysis, which everyone seems to love.

CONS

I ultimately had to upgrade to Lighthouse Studio because of the nature of our business. We have to do very complex CBC questions with quite a few attributes. This complication as well as skip logic needed for co-fielding (discover might do that, to be honest, but I didn't try), make it simpler to just go to Lighthouse. I also with that Discover could do LCA Segmentation. I feel like that's an absolute must have.

Reason for choosing Discover

Less expensive. We are just beginning to do more quant work, so it was easier to get buy in for a less expensive product.

Excellent platform for conjoint studies

I am very happy with Discover. I have been using it to teach design courses (with a market research flavor) for over a decade, and Discover eases much of the burden that we used to have with Lighthouse (especially with uploading and hosting). Great product that I recommend!

PROS

The most important feature is the market-leading conjoint analysis capabilities, for which there are no peers. Over the past couple of years, Sawtooth has made the Discover platform easier and more powerful, which reduces the effort needed from me to use and teach the techniques to others.

CONS

It would be helpful for Sawtooth to provide short (2-5 minute) video tutorials for how to use certain features (e.g., setting up a CBC study, analyzing CBC results, using the market simulator).

Discover in Class

Very practical, easy to use, students that need for example max-diff or conjoint love it, it provides them with a tool that really helps them in their graduation project.

PROS

Ease of use Outcomes are clear, especially for students: you have numbers and you can 'experiment' with market simulator

CONS

not sure... it might be useful to have a view on how the data is actually stored in a data sheet and how the caluculations are done, but I can imagine that that is not so desirable ;-)

Reason for choosing Discover

Sawtooth provided excellent customer service; we could arrange a 'grant' for a graduate student and you now provide the Acedemic subscription (which I use with great succes in a graduation course now). The other products could not provide this.

Product Managers should be using this tool!

So far, although early days, I find it valuable - easy to use. The proof is that for a complex research method , I can get going quickly and with enough confidence from the supporting documentation/community that I can get the value out of the tool.

PROS

It makes a complex research method very easy and actionable to use, for non-academics. The user interface is easy to use, and the tool has everything I need to get going to use for work. Being able to build via the web and also share the survey all in one place, is invaluable as it saves so much time jumping from excel to survey tools and analysis.

CONS

I'd love a nicer UI but it's a minor point as I get all I need and require from the tool as is.

Reason for choosing Discover

Sawtooth is an authority on the subect, and I've since purchased several of the ebooks on the site. This brings great confidence that I'm using the tool built by the subject matter experts - at the price we paid, I think it's very fair value for money.

Great software! But different

Its fun and a different experience.

PROS

It's easy to use, but it is a little different than Survey Monkey or Qualtrics.

CONS

You need to think about it if you're not used to using it for conjoint analysis. Sometimes the question labeling is not altogether intuitive. That may be a function of the fact I don't teach or use this much. However, Sawtooth is changing that and motivating me to incorporate this in both my teaching and research streams as a marketing professor.

Excellent Analysis

PROS

The analysis that Sawtooth creates is extremely easy to understand and quick to action on. The report that is created quickly gives you all the information you need to make decisions.

CONS

maxdiff max of 30 options seemed too low. Unless there is a reason 30 is the max it seemed to cap us unnecessarily.

Extremely Intuitive and Powerful Conjoint Tools

PROS

Sawtooth provides the ability to investigate complex consumer preferences in a way that makes the set-up and implementation of the survey intuitive and simple. The ability to have the software facilitate preference combinations systematically makes setting-up the survey simple and gives me peace-of-mind that I haven't neglected to include questions that might limit my ability to address all the part-worth's I am interested in studying is of great value!

CONS

So far, I have yet to find any issues with the use of the software that I find problematic.

Sawtooth Lighthouse

PROS

Undoubtedly the best tool for conjoint analysis. The available features are comprehensive.

CONS

There is a very steep learning curve to Lighthouse. You will likely need training.

Good survey making tool

PROS

I liked the survey analysis tool best from this software. The process of making the survey was easy and straight forward but the analysis tools are very useful.

CONS

Formatting survey questions was what I liked least about this survey. It was not user friendly when revising questions. Sometimes the questions would be different once it was published.
