Toggl is a cloud-based project management solution that specializes in time tracking.

With Toggl, users can track time in real time. Users switch Toggl on and a timer begins to run. This timer tracks billable hours. Time can be tagged by project or any other filter. If users forget to switch Toggl on, they can manually enter time later.

Toggl allows users to start out with simple time tracking and later set up user rights and project setup. Users can track time logged by all of their team members. Reports can be generated that show how long team members spent on different projects, how much total time each team member spent working and progress toward team goals.

In Toggl, users can export timesheets and email reports to customers or bosses. Offline support is offered, so users can log time when not connected to the Internet and then upload that time to the cloud once they’re connected again.

Toggl is priced per user and users can be billed either monthly or annually. It is integrable with Trello, Asana and other productivity tools. Mobile apps are available for Android and iOS.

I love toggl. It's so focused on what it's meant to be; a time tracking app. I've tried a number of apps like this and they all require a lot of clicks or taps to get it started. This one is simple and had the least number of steps to start tracking. The mobile app is just like the website so there's no trouble in using either platform. It just simply works and helps track the work.

Cons

One feature wish is that it would track what programs you use. I've seen some productivity apps that track what apps or programs you are using and for how long, having this and a project timer would be ideal for tracking not only how long you are working on something but also which programs you have to use most in project.

It’s so easy to use. Literally press the start and stop button when you start and finish what you’re doing. Even when you forget, it’s prompts you. And if you remember later, you can also edit the entries or post one belatedly.

Cons

The prompts while useful can become annoying when you use the computer for non-work related matters too.

We absolutely love this app besides the pricing issues. It works very well, and it gives us all of the features we need. This app is worth the money just for the mobile apps.

Pros

Obviously, one of the best aspects of this program are that there are available apps for Android and Apple. This is very handy, as most of our work is done on-site rather than just sitting at the desk. We used to have our employees turn in an email that said their hours, but now we are using this program, and it’s much more accurate.

Cons

The pricing can get a bit complicated with the subscription service. It can be a pain when you need all the features of one tier and just one feature from the next tier but don’t want the rest of the features. It seems like it might be a little bit of a waste at that point.

Toggle does have it right and if your business is more about tracking time for billing purposes, this might very well be the tool you need. It is not overkill and it provides everything you need for billing purposes. It goes that extra mile with reporting mechanisms that provide visibility into your business profitability. And it goes beyond tracking a project but, rather, tracking your entire portfolio and teams.

Pros

Toggl offers a solution for individuals, small business and enterprise environments, alike. It provides visibility at an individual level, as well as an overal team level. If provides the time tracking of a project with the overview of a program. Toggl also offers an extensive list of reporting mechanisms that extend beyond the traditional number of hours per project. With advanced features like the ability to identify profitability across one or more projects, Toggl can actually become a project management tool in environments practicing a Kanban or Lean Agile approach.

Cons

The subscriptions might not necessarily provide the specific features you seek in their breakdown. Chances are that depending on your business size, you might find that going from one level to the other may or may not offer exactly what you need and give you more than you really desire. In other words, you might need to jump to the next subscription level for that one and only feature you need, and not necessarily all you are paying for.

Toggl allows you to set up a wide variety of customers and projects each with their own tariff per hour, the developers then simply activate the timer when they are working on a clients project and when done, stops the timer to reflect the exact time spent on the described task.

Cons

To fully unlock all the features we would like to use, can become quite a pricey venture as we have discovered so make sure to do proper research beforehand.

With even the free version for tracking a simple process or multiple processes, one would prefer a timer like this over even Google's free timer, just due to the innovative features such as collaboration, description of time tracked, and reporting, not to mention the beautiful aesthetic design.

Cons

The only drawback when using this product is when using it as an addon for another favorite product of mine (Trello), it doesn't always run as smooth when tracking the tasks from my Trello tasklist.

Easy to use web app or phone app. Quick to add tags and run reports, and even if the app crashes- which admittedly it does more often than I'd like- it restarts quickly and without ANY loss of data- including current time-keeping

Cons

The reports in pdf form look great and contain useful data; the Excel forms are lacking in that. I often have to use both- ERxcel for the editable numbers and the pdf for the additional details. Not a big deal, but it would be nice if the Excel form contained the same categories and information as the pdf.

I use this tool every day for tracking the billable hours of several clients. It could not be easier to track, assign, edit, and review time on a variety of clients and their projects, and even look up past data in an analytics view.

Cons

The analytics view can be tricky to use to copy past hours into an invoice as you have to mouse over each day to see the totals, therefore cannot copy/paste those numbers or even glance at them to manually type into another window. It's not a problem though if you record each week at the end as the tracking page is easy to review in detail.

Cons

There is no way to change a client rate without altering historical data, but there is a workaround by creating a new project with the new rate attached to that project.

The facility that gives you the application and portability make it easy to use, I do not use it but I know that it can be linked to a billing software, but even if it is not linked it helps you keep track of the hours you should charge to the clients.

Pros

The control of the projects becomes much easier to take it with this tool, it helps you have repetitive tasks in a streamline, optimizing the administrative time you will be able to visualize the progress and the status of the projects in a simple and clear viewer.

Cons

Sincerely I have not had big problems with the application, but if I have to say something about the application it seems that the color palette to define the projects is somewhat limited, and also when a project has many tasks or is already very large the system it's a bit slow

As a freelancer, I tried multiple time trackers to find the right one for my business. Toggl is by far my favorite in terms of features, cost, and ease of use. It has everything I need, and nothing I don't.

Pros

Toggl is super simple to use, but still has some robust features for breaking down projects and tasks. It takes seconds to set up new task, and I like the browser extension for easily starting / stopping tasks. The reporting features are a huge help when it's time to send invoices too.

Cons

My one complaint is that if I have a task in progress and want to edit it (change the start time) I have to stop it and then restart. But that's fairly minor!

I used this the most during my freelancing years and it was very nice to be able to have the Chrome extension in the corner to click to keep track of my hours. It even had a helpful reminder nudge if it saw that I was frequenting my work websites without timing myself. (I'm quite forgetful sometimes when it comes to tracking hours.)

We used toggl to be able to track which projects we were spending time on in our nonprofit. Easy to use. I, personally, never used the timer and would just go in retroactively at the end of the day to record my hours and where my time was spent. Reporting and analytics are great.

Cons

It's a little annoying that the system usually automatically wants to start the timer when you enter a new task, but you can stop it and change it to manual.

My day is better organized, and I'm aware of my time spends with Toggl, I started using it because an agency in which I was working compelled us to use it.... now I'm not on that agency anymore, but Toggle is part of my days

Ease of use, you don't need to read a manual for it.... it's truly friendly, and on top of that, the UI is not cluttered, you have access to everything but doesn't choke you out... I love:

- The way to continue tasks quickly (if I had a break, and then continue, not need to typing)
- The timer works even you're offline
- Organization by clients/projects

Cons

I can barely think of anything I didn't like of it.... I miss something however, the ability to "tag" the tasks, that would be great to me as freelance, been able to say which time of the month I've spent in sales, management, coding... it would be a great add, at least to me.

Toggl has given me the ability to easily track my hours on projects whenever I need to, and produce reports that I then base my billing on.

Pros

I don't always have jobs where I need to track my billable hours, but when I do, I use Toggl. I find it extremely easy to use, with both a desktop and a mobile app. If I am working on multiple different projects at the same time, I can add those projects to Toggl and track my hours separately. Toggl understands that as humans, we can sometimes forget to turn the timer on or off, so I love the ways it helps me along by suggesting I turn my timer on if it I am on a window that seems to be project-related, and if my computer has no activity for 15 minutes it will ask me whether to discard that time as well. It's also easy to add manual entries. Finally, it is super easy to generate hours and activities reports for any time period.

Cons

I honestly can't think of anything I don't like about Toggl or that could be better - it really just does what I need it to.

Great, it allowed us to calcule how much do we earn on every project and where we're wasting our time.

Pros

Simplicity. Toggl is very simple and has a great user interface. When we're onboarding people they get how Toggl works in seconds. On the other hand it is as complex as it should be to make it useful for analysis and time tracking. Really great piece of software.

Cons

The price - Toggl is really expensive if you want to expand it for your whole team. While it is possible to use several workspaces it is becoming painful when the team is growing. And then, the price is very high for time tracking tool.

I love Toggl! I highly recommend it to any freelancer who is being paid hourly and wants to show their clients exactly where their money is going. It's also a wonderful productivity tool if you're looking for a way to track your time and understand how to become more productive.

Pros

Toggl is the best time tracker I've ever used. It's free, you can sort by task, project, and client, and you can print out impressive summaries to share with your clients so they know exactly what you did to complete their project. It's also a great internal tool for understanding where your time is going on a daily basis.

The desktop app didn't work very well on my Mac. I ended up deleting it and only using the website.

Getting started with TOGGL is super easy. There's almost nothing to set up. You just start adding time blocks to your day. It's best to do it daily so you don't forget. At the end of the month (or whenever you want to review/report time), capturing totals by project and client is easy. I use screen shots as proof of service to clients.

Pros

TOGGL works wherever I am (desktop or phone).
TOGGL lets me add new clients and projects on the fly without changing screens.
TOGGL gives me detailed reports for any kind of billing I need to do.

Cons

I'd like TOGGL to be smarter (maybe these are feature suggestions) like read my calendar and mail to suggest time blocks to capture for billing and reporting so that I don't have to do everything on my own.

I've used Toggle with 3rd party contractors. As someone who outsources, I have respect for those who can show me where their time has been spent. I definitely recommend for small and large teams.

Cons

No cons as of now. I wasn't an actual user, but a 3rd party/client who was shown where the time on my project was spent.

It has been our time tracking software for years. Loads of extensions make it easy to integrate with common software.

Pros

The minimalistic approach. Tracking time can be an unexpectedly cumbersome issue...with toggl it is trivial.

Cons

It is slightly expensive in some plans. The reports could use some improvements.

Easy and simple to use. A great way to keep track of all the projects you work. I was the worst at keeping track of the time. Toggle help me to do this every day.

Cons

I havent found something i dont like. I like all of the features of this software.

- The desktop app is amazing and makes switching between tasks a breeze.
- The reporting features are top-notch.
- Even the free version has good options for customization of tasks you want to track.

Cons

- The app is clunky and not nearly as easy to use as the website and desktop app.
