Equipment Rental Store Owner
Point of Rental is the central hub for our business, and is where we do nearly 100% of our day-to-day tasks. There is no better dedicated product on the market for a rental business, but be aware that not all of the additional features are worth the price of admission.
PROSPoint of Rental is basically handling every facet of a rental business, from time clock to inventory to depreciation to reservations and missed rental tracking.
CONSThe software has clearly been added to and modified over time, and the UI is uneven and inconsistent in many places. Many of the modules have only very basic functionality or are overly complicated to use.

Best customer service help!!
Point of Rental system offers so many strategic factors. The more you learn the program the better to help strategize the growth of your business. To be able to view by category our largest rental items, items worth replacing or let ones go. To monitor day to day the sales, the losses, the client’s comments has helped us know the direction we want to grow our business.
PROSWe are so grateful for the help being just a phone call away when we come across an unusual situation with our rental order or we make a mistake and they spend the time to fix it for us. Best customer service help desk I’ve ever experienced!
CONSIt takes a while to understand and learn all the layers but with patience and help desk it can be learned.

This software is massively over priced and is not cut out for fence rentals.
There were no benefits whatsoever
PROSThe only positive of this system was the dispatch integration. This was a good system that functioned well with routing our trucks for their daily installations.
CONSWay overpriced. If you are having reservations about the cost of this listen to your gut. System looks archaic. The architecture looks like software from the 1990's. The estimating process is slow and cumbersome. You are forced to enter a complete order by using a series of tabs instead of simply entering everything on one screen as in modern software. There are many quirks that slow you down as well as password and user ID issues, printing issues, etc. POR allows you to access the software in test mode before you purchase which we did. The problem is when you access in test mode you have no clue what you are looking at and you have no guidance from POR until you cut a check. A VERY LARGE CHECK. The on site training provided was done by a very knowledgeable guy but it was not enough to get us up and running with confidence. The biggest disappointment is that our company feels deceived. We were told that this would integrate with Quickbooks which it barely does. It will only tell quick books a lump sum of sales per day, nothing else. Our quick books really became useless to us. Our company was also told that there were other fence rental companies that used their product and that we'd be able to contact them to hear about their experience with POR. After making several requests for this info it was never provided. We assume that POR was lying about this.

Great Program
Overall I like using POR daily. From rentals to purchse orders and account management, all of it is easy to use.
PROSEase of use is amazing. I've been in the rental industry for 19 years and have used multiple rental programs and Point of Rental is by far the most efficient and easiest to use.
CONSI would like an option for equipment to go into a "hold" stage after it is returned instead of goig straight to green for available. This would help with reservations and fleet management.

Point of Rental will answer the phone anytime of the day or night with their own employees to help with any problems that you might have. Not only are there a million reports we can run but the system is also very easy to use and train people to use.
CONSif we want to add functions to the system to taylor them to our needs it is hard to get that done.

Awesome Product
It is easy to use, and easy to train new personnel on. Once you have the basics of the program down, it pretty easy to dive deeper into the programming and start retrieving all the benefits of POR.
CONSPersonally, the mundane stuff like changing passwords every three months. I understand why but annoying.

the software is great overall, the tech help has always been quick at getting back to us. POR has helped us greatly in looking after our inventory in retail and rental.

CONSWhen the credit batch does not match at end of day and some of the accounting options. Sometimes it gets stuck on a customer when the ID matches another user in the system. How it doesnt always recognize an existing customer when we import an online quote.

Point of Rental for the Equipment Rental Industry
Overall, our experience has been very positive. We have had our own growing pains as a company, and POR has stuck with us through it all, adapting our software modules as our own needs have changed. While there are a few things we would like to see function differently/better, overall, it is a great software program at a great value and they truly understand the equipment rental industry.
PROSLOVE that the program is Windows based and overall easy to use. Many features have been updated and added and the ongoing updates following customer input and feedback are extremely helpful. Being able to utilize the program in a "training mode" is also key when bringing on new personnel.
CONSPoint of Rental has experienced tremendous growth in the last few years. When we first acquired the software, calling in for support was no issue, and a person always answered the phone. Now, calling in for support takes you to a switchboard and you often have to leave a message and wait for a reply, and due to the growth, it sometimes takes lengthy time to get the right support person to help resolve your issue.

Good software, still buggy
The software has benefited our company greatly. I have no experience with other rental programs so I do not have a reference, but I have been satisfied with POR.
PROSI like the ability to find items that are not always easily found. I like that there are multiple ways to do things so there is a lot of flexibility.
CONSThere are some big bugs that affect business. Credit card processing, which may not be POR's fault gets messed up constantly which doesn't allow to close for end of day. The support team is always hard to connect to. They are usually very helpful when you do finally connect, but connecting is the challenge. There are several bugs that don't let the correct buttons show up. There are more steps on Elite than on Expert to do the same things. It constantly disconnects from something and has to reconnect. Screens will bounce back and forth from foreground to background. There are plenty more things wrong I cannot think of.

Not a good choice if you customers pay 30-60 days
Ease of use once you get used to operating the system make a rental happen in moments. The tracking of the hours in and out is also nice.
CONSThis is one of my only complaints with POR. Currently you are unable to send customers monthly statements for all past due invoices. Once you have selected the invoice for monthly statement you are no longer allowed to add it to next month's statement if the bill has still not been paid. This is a huge accounting nightmare that quite honestly is ridiculous it was not a standard feature when the program was built. We now have to build an excel spreadsheet and add all the unpaid invoices each month costing us more time and money that we hoped to save.

I've got great news for you - As of the last release of Essentials: "We now have a setting that gives you the ability to not only bill for contracts that have never had statements run on them, but also for the old ones that customers haven't paid yet. And just as cool, it shows the previous statement for each of those "rebilled" contracts." So hopefully you can now scrap Excel from this process. It Does What It Is Supposed To But Has Glitches
Overall the system is great but would love to have the connection issues stop.
PROSWe previously used a server based POR Software and they began phasing out support for the product and talked us into moving to the Cloud Based Product. The new dashboard features are nice and we were already familiar with the basic functions of the program.
CONSThe issues I have come across in the cloud based program are losing connection on occasion throughout the day. Exporting reports from the system into an excel or crystal file can be tricky. Customer Support set up a folder for me to seamlessly export reports to and I keep having to call back because the pathway to that folder will be lost.

Long time user
Just dealing with the software that I own, it's great. I've used the software for 25 years so I know how to use it. Only time I need to call support is usually over credit card problems which they must deal with. If I was a user who needed support, it would be a hassle.
PROSEase of use. Once you learn how the software works, it's easy to teach others.
CONSThe customer support over the years has took a downward spiral. Only a few years ago, your call was answered and dealt with immediately, now your issued a ticket and most of the time called back, sometimes days after your call. Took over 2 months to get a price on an upgrade that's a ridiculous price.

Innovative and reliable
We could not run our business efficiently without all of the integral products that are included in Point of Rental. All of these products combine to create THE singular solution for our rental business.

CONSThe only con that I can think of is that there are minimal choices for external integrations.

So much potential
Inventory management and billing are the most integral part of our Rental process. POR continues to be our choice for rental management software because of this.
PROSInventory management is a very big part of our POR experience. POR has a great inventory interface. Accurate billing.
CONSPOR appears to be working on an improved customer service experience. If they keep at it the service experience should improve. For now I would say the service side is lacking urgency / quick communication when issues are reported.

Solid Rental Software
Overall stock accountability and management has much improved with POR. Many features surrounding rental fleet management allow easy manipulation of equipment within the various modules.

CONSNothing to mention here. As per my experience, client support reacts quickly to any queries and addresses issues in a timely manner.

Best Software I have ever dealt with
After dealing with rental software for 15+ years, we made the change to POR and I can't believe how good they are. I regret not making the switch 10 years earlier. POR is rental specific and they have made our process very seamless. THE best in the industry!!

CONSIf I have to point our something...They are in Texas and we are in Georgia. So we are operating a couple of hours before they arrive...but they have always had an "early bird" on call to answer the simple technical questions.

Versatile software
We have already solved alot of our issues using point of rental and looking forward to use the future to updates to help us take it to the next level
PROSI like how many options there are with the software. I alsonoike the way we can have a say so in new features of the software.
CONSDont like inspection/Workforce. They both needs some features to make them a complete app. Sometimes I also feel that you have to click to many windows to go through some of the options.

PROSI like the credit hold feature under customer account, that's it! I'm only writing this part because I'm being told that my pro review is too short.
CONSToo many steps to do anything, constantly need to re-enter credentials every time you switch menus. Need to go to 3-4 different menus to complete just 1 task.

Rental Expert, by default, is configured to require logins for each alteration in the system, which allows for more accurate tracking and logging of changes made. Computers (especially those at the counter) are often shared in rental stores, in our experience ¿ we want our customers to have accuracy in reporting without requiring users to log completely out of (and then back into) the system. For employees that have their own dedicated computers, there is an option that dramatically reduces the number of times you need to log in, however. Point of Rental - the future of hire software
It has been great, it has really allowed us to track all of our equipment and ensure we are billing our customers correctly, whilst managing a P&L & customer pipeline.
PROSVery easy to use, and if there are any problems, the customer support team are always on hand to assist.
CONSWould be good if this was a cloud based system.
